I don't agree with everything Abraham Lincoln did during his presidency. I especially disagree with the suspension of Habeas Corpus, however I do think he was within his constitutional power to do so since there was a rebellion going on (unlike Bush). He was far more anti-slavery before becoming president and became seemingly ambivalent to it during his presidency, until war broke out.

The civil war was a rebellion. Although this part is under Article I, so it would appear the framers may have intended suspension of habeas corpus go through the legislative process. Believe me, I disagree with Lincoln's actions, but at least he could make a const. argument. Bush could not.
Weather the framers intended to have it go though the congress seems irrelevant when the Supreme Court ruled that indeed it must go through the Congress

It's true that some of those things did take place while the country was being framed, but I belve that America has evolved since then. In case you don't know, it was a "dog eat dog" world back in the 16th and 17th centuries. Everyone was fighting everyone to get a piece of land in America. In fact, they even had white slaves (Indentured) back then also that they put on boats and sent to America from England. It wasn't just blacks from Africa. I don't agree with everything Abraham Lincoln did during his presidency. I especially disagree with the suspension of Habeas Corpus, however I do think he was within his constitutional power to do so since there was a rebellion going on (unlike Bush). He was far more anti-slavery before becoming president and became seemingly ambivalent to it during his presidency, until war broke out.
However, overall I think he was a good president.

uhhh, the part of the constitution that reads, "The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, UNLESS WHEN IN CASES OF REBELLION or invasion the public safety may require it.
The civil war was a rebellion. Although this part is under Article I, so it would appear the framers may have intended suspension of habeas corpus go through the legislative process. Believe me, I disagree with Lincoln's actions, but at least he could make a const. argument. Bush could not.

BTW, they didn't say you have to worship their god, they just believed in some god--a higher power than man. Religion is not something they created on their own, it was always there since time began. It's interesting that the extreme right wing Faux Populists that love Palin, Rush, Fox and this Tea Party nonsense are suddenly just freaking out over spending and expansion of government after 8 years of insane increases in spending, Government (especially the executive branch) deficit, national debt and the policies that directly brought about the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. And NOW you that someone is trying (with mixed results) to fix things, now you go nuts.
