  • yes.... the famous Parchman Farm soundalike. That's too kind. It's a dead clone.... but a fab piece and was exactly the right tune for Gurney Slade. Way ahead of its time, really

  • I found this one in the Guinness Book of Hit Singles and decided to investigate. I'm a little disappointed that I actually know it!

  • Evokes wonderful memories. Thank you

  • And for those that remember "Vision On" on BBC1 in the 1970s . . . it was the background tune to the cuckoo clock animations.

  • My dad was the engineer at a radio station and then a recording studio. We found this 45 amongst thousands of records he had in a big barrel. I have looked for this song for years and did not know the name. I noticed the piano intro is identical to the one in Mose Alison's Parchman Farm. I posted asking if anyone knew this song. Thank you, SoireedeGala for answering my burning question and ending my quest. I can't wait to show this song to my children, grandchildren and anyone that will listen.

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 As a 7 year old, I thought this was the epitome of beatnick jazz. That was 1965..

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 My parents had this single (B side Hat and Cane) and we loved it! I was at a wedding a few years ago and the band started playing Hat and Cane and couldn't believe that someone was actually whistling along. :)

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 As well as the piano intro sounding like Parchman Farm, the same piano intro was used again on Anthony Newley's "Bee Bom" (double A-side with "Pop Goes The Weasel") the following year, 1961. Also on Decca, by the way.

  • Brilliant.

  • great!

  • Max !
