  • THANK YOU so much for acknowledging the 25th anniversary - I hope it actually gets some serious attention as the year progresses, certainly more than last year's 25th anniversary of Dragon Quest did!

  • FFI to FFX, and FFXII

  • Best FFS for me are: FF6 FF9 FF4 FF5 FF7 FFX FF8 FF2 FF3 FF1 I don't know much about the FInal Fantasy Tactics, I've heard the Psx is better than Advance...but well I prefer the classic ones :)
  • Ahh, it has been years since I heard this.. Classic as always. :)

  • This reminds me of the Pokemon Gold soundtrack somehow. Maybe it's just that I didn't play a final fantasy game until LONG (2010) after I became an avid Pokemon fan (1999).

  • Did the main creator of the ff series go off on his freelance project like Uematsu did, because i thought i read that somewhere and that could explain the loss in the FF feel to most complainers.

  • @xam154 yup, can't remember his name, but FF 9 was his last - and greatest- creation.

  • @Mdude123456789 agreed and thanks for the response

  • This isn't the main FF theme it is the crystal song, it is usually present somewhere in most FF games, and is in the beginning screen in FF1, probably more well known in FF4 opening screen.

Best ones I remember are 1,3,4,6,7 From 8 onward the series characters went into girly or kiddie mode.

  • 3, 7 and 1 remade on gba are my favs =D

  • Final Fantasy Games (at least I to X, all others have to be discussed elsewhere) are too awesome to make one of them better or worse. They don'T have to be ordered or something.

Put away the hatred and enjoy those games and their musics.

  • I think Final Fantasy 9,4,13 and 6 are my favorites.

  • IV, V, VI. SNES era FTW!

  • Looks like I'm downloading all of your favourite video game musics. This one is just awesome. As always.

  • IV, X, I, II

  • i dunno....its too hard to rank em. the first ff game I played was 4 so of course cecil and crew will always have precedence over everyone else in the series. although I DID enjoy 13 and WILL be getting 13-2 at the end of the month

  • My favourite FF main series game in order: XI, VII, IX, VI, VII, X, IV, XII, III, XIII, I, II

  • 9's the best IMO.

  • The first game is pretty damn good.

  • final fantasy 6 was the first game i ever played, and wow that was a masterpiece. the music was so stunning, from the overworld theme to dancing mad, all of them just blew me away, and the story... squaresoft really outdid itself in those days. i also like final fantasy 4 and yes, 12. i really liked ff12 because of its storyline and mechanics.

  • 6 and 9 are the best ones, but 13 is criminally underrated. Yeah, it's flawed, but it deserves credit for some of the things it did right.

Also, FF10-2. What think you, o dark one? Gameplay wise, it's closest to FF5 after all...

  • 3 (Or 6 in Japan), X , 8.

  • Always seems to play when I step outside

  • Ah, my favorite franchises are turning 25 years old. Makes me so happy!

  • FF Type 0 and Versus look great, so i still have plenty of faith in FF and SE in general.

  • agree with supradarky on that one !

  • FF XII actually had decent music believe it or not

  • @Omnamagnus exactly. It just hasn't aged as well as Mario or Zelda, is all

  • @harrylane4 given that Mario and Zelda are just slight variations on a theme, not hard to get them wrong.

  • This isn't the Main Theme... The main theme is the one that plays during the cutscene before the final boss of FF4, among other points in the series.

  • I'd like to say I enjoyed XIII to a degree. I think most complained due to high expectations(unlike XII this one was highly advetised for it's team and story, rather than graphics like XII was). I personally found it enjoyable and I have a strong feeling from the demo XIII-2 is the most fun you'll have had since FFX. First thing you'll notice when you open the map is the very first town is easily almost as big as Gran Pulse. The maps are MASSIVE.

  • cool wallpaper xD

  • man Squaresoft used to make awesome games... Xenogears, Final fantasy tactics, FF series, Saga Frontier, Vagrant Story, and more.. it doesn't seem like they put any heart into making there games anymore.

  • @zero11322 Have you forgot Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross? Don't think you did, but they deserve a mention.

  • top 5 in order

    9

    4

    6

    7

    5

  • It just so happens that for the first time in months I grabbed my copy of the original FF on the PSP and played through it today. Really weird how that checks out.

  • I think I'd go with this as my list of the main games I own:

    1. Final Fantasy IX (PS1)

    2. Final Fantasy VI (Wii VC)

    3. Final Fantasy IV (DS)

    4. Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)/Final Fantasy VII (PS1)

    5. Final Fantasy X (PS2)

    6. Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2)

I'm undecided on FF8 and FF7 in terms of which are better. Not sure if X-2 belongs on there, but whatever.

  • I enjoyed FFXIII. Sure the story was terrible and Hope was the worst thing to happen to FF but I enjoyed the music, the combat and a lot of other things in the game. I even bash it myself because I HATE the grinding for gil and items and a handful(s) of other things but it's a decent game in my book. People will bitch if it stays the same and people will bitch if you change it. Either way, we're always gonna bitch about something with the FF series.

  • 4, 6, 9.

  • I wouldn't say the FF series has been going downhill, the series has been around since 1989, if it kept the same overtly generic formula for each numbered game then the series would get stale very quickly.FFXII was a great game, the battle system made fighting random encounters less of a chore, it also had a ton of side quests. The bad thing about FFXIII was its linearity, but it still had a good story and the battle system was engaging as well.FF tries to do something different with each game.

  • Dang it! Now you've got me wanting to replay FF1 again!

  • Comment removed

  • Heh, old school player here. FF6, FF7, FF4, FF3, FF, FF5, FF9, FF2, and the rest of the garbage include 8, 10, 12, 13, and ugh 14.

  • My top three are 9, 7, and 10.

  • I would have to say my favorites are 11, 6, 9, and 5. They all have such epic story lines and characters.

  • My top list is, 6,3,5,9. Those are the only ones I enjoyed. I want to love 4, like, really badly, but i cant for some reason and I dont know why.

  • Wait, the series has been going downhill? But FF13 was awesome, even if 14 and The After Years were pieces of crap.

  • @VGKing 13 was the worst yet imo. but 13-2 looks like the fixed a lot of things so im excited.

  • @VGKing Yeah, 13 was really good, if different. Hamauzu had some nice music for that one, too, even if it's not as good as Uematsu's best.

  • I love the picture you used. c: Moogles are my favorite FF creatures

  • This is what I remember from my failed attempt at playing the first Final Fantasy game. I'd have liked it if this song appeared in later Final Fantasy games. It's quite a nice, epic tune

  • I kind of liked FF5. The job system was great and I liked the campy feel to it. The jokes were great. It just got too serious at times. :S

  • Here's to 25 more years of adventures.

  • Err, this isn't Matoya's Cave. The description's kinda incorrect.

  • Good times. I wish that they had another Black Mage in one of the games.

  • Happy anniversary Final Fantasy!

  • Nice!

  • The classic Main / Overworld theme from the very first FF. I know the series has been going downhill for a while now, but right now I'd rather reflect on the amazing games the series provided. And the amazing music, of course.

  • @SupraDarky I think I'd like SE to focus on Versus. I think the majority of us would like that. Hopefully, with that game and future titles they can finally become great again.

  • @FuzWuz i agree with you but what about type - 0? the fact that the world map is back makes it seem like it wil be a great game.

  • @FuzWuz Tetsuya Nomura enjoys taking on too many projects. He was with Dissidia 012, KH Birth By Sleep, KH Dream Drop Distance, KH III, FF XIII, FF XIII-2, FF XIII Type 0, and FF Versus XIII. Thankfully now we're down to KH Dream Drop Distance, KH III, FF XIII Type 0, and FF Versus XIII, the 2nd and last ones being what I'm waiting for.

  • @Arc13 Definitely. Type-0 and Versus XIII are gonna be great. Type-0 is already being praised in Japan.

However, Type-0's future looks kinda bad since the Vita is coming soon, and the PSP isn't as dominant here as it is in Japan.

For Versus XIII, it's gonna be released in around two years I think. It's pathetic, they've announced 6 years ago, but they only went into "full development" recently.

  • @SupraDarky A lot of people have been asking me to rank the FF games over the years. I'm not sure I could rank them all, but my favorites in order are : FF6, FF7, FF4, FF10, and then I wouldn't really be able to rank them. That's not including games like FFT that would be in the top 3 easily.

  • @SupraDarky I like all the ff games except for 11 and 14. They are all worth playing.(And I've played all of them and plan to pick up 13 -2 on release day)

  • @SupraDarky Exellent choices. I prefer FF9 to FF7, but thats just me =)

  • @SupraDarky I keep seeing FF6 among the top picks for many people. I guess I need to prioritize that game at the top of my list.

  • @SupraDarky FF games sucks now coz Nobuo Uematsu isn't there making fine music anymore.

  • @SupraDarky Not FF9?

  • @SupraDarky I'm always amazed that people shit on 12. Easily one of the best games in the series and certainly the best written (not to mention most mature) by far. And I'd take its combat over the old turn-based style any day of the week. While 7 is certainly a good game it wouldn't be nearly so revered if it weren't for the massive amount of hype behind its release, not to mention it was the very first RPG a lot of people played as kids.

  • @SupraDarky You have my same list. :)

  • @SupraDarky Did you happen to play Ogre Tactics?

  • @SupraDarky Hey!! Why no 9?

That is totaly amongst my top 3.

  • @SupraDarky FF6 is my fave too. i also really like 5.

  • @SupraDarky Strange that you would like FFT but not FFV when they are both based around the job system.

  • @SupraDarky Glad to see someone else that loves 6. I think 7 got the high praise that it does just for being the first 3-D in the series, in all honesty. I still remember my first time i the World of Ruin - I thought that it was "Game Over" for sure when Kefka blew up the world. To find out that I was only about half-way done with the game, though? Mind-blowing!

  • @SupraDarky i agree wholeheartedly with that ranking

  • @SupraDarky Total agreement on ranking. PERFECT!

  • @SupraDarky

    Love your rankings.

  • @SupraDarky

Supra, have you played Final Fantasy Origins? It has some really good tunes, including an absolutely awesome remix of the Temple of Fiends theme.

  • @SupraDarky On the other hand, the series is not going downhill due to stagnation. I really like the fact that each new game that comes out tries to do things differently, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't, but i don't think the final Fantasy series would've lasted that long if they didn't try to innovate each time.

  • @GabeMorris I think Square was better off focusing on their game's stories and artistic design than worrying about trying to innovate the game's inner workings. Sometimes it's cool to have different ways to level up, like in the Elder Scrolls series, but the grid sphere/levelless system they've been using for the past 3 consecutive games just isn't the best, yet they insist on using it. I'd be perfectly content with the FF1-FF9 leveling system, that's what I grew to love.
