  • The Spinners - [Complete Motown Singles 10: 1970 CD1/6 #015] Message From A Black Man

never released on CD? oh, right....

  • Try THE WHATNAUTS' version--It's dark n' spooky!

  • I'm not front I love the temptations version but the spinners version is just as great and can't understand why Motown wouldn't wanna promote this cut. And even more strange has a history promoting a song more than once with different artist but the spinners version maybe unknown but to me it's a instant classic, I love it.

    Jamostorm

  • grovy grovy man, acid kickin in..

  • Responding to the viedo,is that Eddie?

  • Funky!

  • If I had to pick which version of this song was best I would have to rank the Tempts first, Spinners second, and Whatnauts third.

  • I have the Temptations' version on "Puzzle People" - bought it when it was out. And, frankly, I can see clearly why the Temptations' version was the one selected for an album. Their version - more intense - really believable. This version is sort of bubble-gumish by comparison.

  • GC Cameron is the basic lead singer on the track

  • im pretty sure this song is sampled in a wu tang song

  • Whatnauts version is way better!

  • never on an lp??

  • @FocusedOpinon .. What did you do to these people? And who is we? Your friends and family?

  • For some reason the refrain has been "spinning" in my head for months. I barely remembered it as a Temptations cut, and never knew about the Spinners' version. This is a great historical object lesson to pass on to my kids as they listen to Lil Wayne and Akon. Thanks for posting it.

  • you should listen to call me nigger by swamp dog

  • hahaha ferdmert i'm so sick of this little argument, there is a message from the white man, its everywhere, turn the tv you're going to see it, count how many presidents , or people in power all together mostly 90% white, is that a coincidence? ...

  • checkabreak, you're right, it is every where. Whites are the victim in interracial crimes 85% of the time, Whites are fired from jobs with no reason needed, but you had better have all your i's dotted and t's crossed, if you even think about firing a Black man...Blacks in the media are known as African American since a color term is deemed offensive, however European Americans never get that respect, they are always just known as a color, White. Somehow a color term is just fine for one group.

  • how many presidents? go look at your self in the mirror and said loud very loud " the reason why white folks get the jobs is because we are better" said it :)

  • @checkabreak ... funny that you use that example since I am White and have been laid off for over a year trying to get a job. And also your President analysis definitely holds true for Blacks as they would never vote for a White person, if a Black man is running. Just ask Bill Clinton.

  • give me a break with that bullshit..Everything in America is tilted towards the success of White people..Keep in mind, black people have only been free for about 40 years...Thats it. It kills me to hear white people complain about getting fired from a job for being white..Are you fuggin kidding me.? Try being black for 2 days and see how quickly you'd want to be white again. The ghettos of America are a direct result of racist white America. Save the "Victim" bullshit..Youre not a victim.

  • @tremyap

    SO TRUE

  • @tremyap LOVE IT!!! XD

  • Damn! The Spinners did a good job on this one. One of the few jams by them I don't have. I'm jealous! The message still rings very true for those of us who still can't get respectful service in our own neighborhoods from whites. It's their lost not mine. I'll keep rolling on! Great post.

  • thank you for posting the video

and 45's are an amazing treasure in the world of digital.

  • so this is the original... jeez... hey man you CAN convert it fron that 45 to a cd... i seen the conversion machine on tv....

  • Excellent. The only people who have a problem with it is the folk who don't know nothin' about the Black experience in America. Truth is hurt many folks feelings.

  • Plus G.C. Cameron sings both falsetto and low tenor on this song.

  • both songs sound nearly alike. I like the temps version the best. Both are good though.

  • That person doesnt know a lot of white people in their neighborhood...or their racist.

  • Comment removed

  • the motherfffffffffuckin spinners rule

  • Sooo... many versions of this song were made.

    Thanks for posting.

  • this is nice BUT were talking about compairing this to the TEMPTS version NOWAY SAVE YOURSELF DONT DO IT TEMPTS ARE WAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER

  • This version is more soulful!

  • it is issued on the best of spinners on motown tamla. and is issued on second time around reissue import.

  • I like both versions of this song, almost sounds the same, but a Damn good song either way.

  • ok send me your email in a personal message and ill email it to you

  • i don't have a credit card or itunes account i just wanna use the original as a sample i can't find the cd either

  • it should be on itunes, it was included on The Complete Motown singles 1970, but if you can't find it there let me know and ill email it to you

  • can you please upload an mp3 or just record the the vinyl playing i've been looking for this song forever!!

  • This version is great, but the Tempts version is the BEST

  • Great song. Why do you think Rage Against The Machine felt cool enough to steal the opening line in "Renegades of Funk"?

  • rare soul gem i can't ID youtube(dot)com/watch?v=mceYRtMSP7Y maybe you guys know it

  • King Geedorah W/ Mr. Fantastik!

  • Idiot!!! so many cover versions..i think you say it deliberately for a reaction

  • When did Pervis die? i know Billy dies a year and a half ago

  • He died yesterday at 2am from Brain and Liver cancer. It was all over the news and if you google his name you'll get the results. He was a good friend. R.I.P. once again Pervis. :(

  • it is available on cd on a compilation called Change Is Gonna Come The Voice Of Black America available at cd universe (although this may not have been the case when you posted).

  • R.I.P. Pervis Jackson! You the bassman! (:

  • it is crazy

this song has been sampled for so many rap songs

You Can't Stop Us Now- Nas

You Can't Stop Me Now- RZA

    Undeniable- Mos Def

    Anti Matter- King Gheedorah

could be more, i just know those four

and the 1st two were released this year

  • Excellent!

  • its on Temptations album - 'Puzzle People' - 1968 or 1969

  • I like the Temptations' version better.

  • Two questions...

    1) Did the Temptations version came first, and this second?

    2) Where can I find an mp3 of this song?

  • Johnny Bristol produced their version

  • Norman Whitfield produced the Temptations' version, but who produced this one?

  • id love to hear a stereo version of this, its very psychadellic

  • I'm a young bass singer myself and Pervis Jackson is my idol/ favorite bass singer of all time! He's still around today, and I had the honor of meeting him! Great guy, and great voice :)

  • THE TEMPS CHART IS BETTER MORE FUNKY!

  • Around This Time Filepe Wynn was actually trying out for Dennis' spot in The Contours

  • Sorry no Felipe Wynne here thats Pervis, GC and Henry, Wynne wouldnt be in the Spinners for another year and a half

  • Classic Spinners with the legendary Felipe Wynn on lead vocals.

  • sampled by ill bill

    for those interested...

  • The Tempts version came out in 1969.Motown uses The Temptation version because it's The Temptations song. It might have just been an album track, but this song was good enough to be a hit for The Tempts. The Tempts album tracks are just as good as their hits in alot of cases

  • great track, thanks for posting!

    check out THE HEPTONES version!!

  • This song is on cd, its on one of the Motown/spectrum cd's. Its called "Detroit Spinners Sweet soul music" the cd dates back to 1994.

  • Barry Gordy blew it by not truly promoting THE SPINNERS. GC sounds great.

  • Agree.

  • I like the Temptations version better...

    Sly

  • Me too, don't get me wrong, I love the Spinners they do a great job, but The Tempts version is superior

  • i like this version though never heard this 1 but it's 2 laid back but the tempts version stands out.

  • Is that the song when it was not appeared on CD? That song was from 1970, two years before they left Motown for Atlantic Records and ended up somewhere in Philadelphia with Producer Thom Bell with songs like "I'll Be Around" and "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love". I've never heard that version before. Thanks!

  • Love This Version! I'd love to buy this one....

  • No matter how hard you try, you can't stop me now...

  • The Temptations version is on thier Puzzle People album released September 1969

  • I've only heard this version once before and I've always wanted to hear it again. I would choose this over The Temptations version, this is simply great. It's funny because The Temptations' version was released in 1968.
