From a design perspective, because the death of a character usually makes he or she more memorable, not that this particular character needed it to be awesome.

It's not said outright (I think) that Vivi dies, but it's strongly implied, and it's generally believed that the narrative during the ending is his words.

Vivi is epic he is one of the most strongest people in the game because he was the one who overcame his fear in the end It's so weird I didn't think much of this scene when I was little in fact it was not until recntly did I actually watch it and SEE the black mages Everyone says that Three scared them as a child but when I was little it was TWO who scared me like when he casted spells - the game froze for like ten minutes on that spot when me and my brother were playing and it freaked me out

He looks totally badass.

0:30 The very first thing he does causes an instant heartbreak.

I really enjoyed FFXII, but it did seem to lack something the other FF games delivered.

One thing I don't like is how making the main character the comic relief is becoming rather frequent, there's a reason so many people liked cloud and squall. Zidane can be a jokester but he's still got a pretty serious attitude, not including Dissidia...
