"There's a difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something"-Richard Feynman
I remember being trained on the abacus by my Turkish math teacher, I willfully quit and remained ignorant, personally i find that the freemasonry mathematical concepts will serve us best, simple whole number harmonics and music theory
This is so stupid, why are they training that hard for something calculators will always be able to do better? They should be studying medicine or something
@jccarbunkle He's not training, he's a savant, which is a rare condition in which people with developmental disorders have one or more areas of expertise, ability, or brilliance that are in contrast with the individual's overall limitations.
He is good at calculating because he's a savant, not because he trains. Math is important, don't dismiss it so easily.
The skills that those asians kids have are amazing, people who put them down for it are just jealous because they can't do 37 times itself by four times in 5 min without a calc.
@EinarBMAN It's amazing in the same sense that acrobats in a circus are amazing. The ability to calculate numbers with such speed is largely useless in the real world. Even in the realm of math-intensive fields such as physics, it's more about the conceptual uses of math to solve problems, as opposed to the calculations themselves.
@Mixikyr ...they're simply using mental abacuses to calculate. It's explainable. Daniel's method is some neurophysiological anomaly - entirely beyond the realm of current scientific explanation.
So this guy loves Pi, which means he probably loves circles, which is symbolically associated with God. and he doesn't like 6. That's pretty amazing stuff.
I can bet any amount of money that if you could look into the children's brains, you would see that they're not really imagining the item, they're brain is simply used to "feeling" the movement of their fingers and relating it to the numbers and calculations. Of course, I don't know anything about the art that the children have been taught..
i've seen the electric man, the ice man, the girl who produces crystals with her eyes, the magnetic guy, guys with super human strength,a boy who can kill birds with a scream and this brain man. The guy at 1:56 is like Mohainder looking for heroes.
I wonder about those made up shapes and multiplication. Like what if you give him two different sets of numbers that yield the same product, would the space in between the two numbers have the same shape? So cool.
I don't think his synaesthetic pictures are so precise. They're probably invoked during the process of mental calculation rather than giving him the answers as is suggested in this documentary.
you must read this. once you have started there is no turning . a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos in 30 minutes the dead girl will appear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you.well you better start to copy and paste
@JJC1984 he described 6 as the number he's most uncomfortable with and says it's small. shit 666 probably scares him shitless like the devil!!! concidence!
Wish I could do calculations that fast in my head, and get them correct. I bet the calc tests I take which take me the whole hour and fifteen minutes to complete, these people could do it in five minutes.
@MyPaperBleedsInk don't worry later if you chose to continue to study you will be allowed to carry a scientific calculator or if you stop studying then you can carry calculator any time any where. i was a mechanical engineering student and after three years of study i started a business not related to my profession at all then I saw I am making more money than most mechanical engineers so I stopped the university and now I feel i have better life than all of my classmates. do what you love to do
mathematics is the heart of the universe what makes existence possible, it's like the green codes in the matrix if you understand you're looking at raw reality, it must be amazing looking at the world through his eyes
I feel bad for Daniel. It seems as though the scientists are treating him like a ROBOT. An experiment. And that one scientist was too freaking rude. I understand that they have to take some experiments because this is very unique but at least treat him more like a human. He's not just your test.
@Travsterable I dont think its to be rude-they are just nerdes (and that good!) having something amazing in front of them and like children they are curious and amazed at what theyve found :)
@Travsterable Don't forget that Daniel volunteered for this and he is infact getting plenty in return. He gets his name out there and his his books sell. He is making money of his name and great abilities. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is scientists job to be skeptical of everything. Especiallya person who claims to have great abilities and might infact only be a fraud and scammer. They both win here.
@Travsterable I have watched the video a long time ago so I may be missing something. But when was he rude? If you're referring to them doubting him, doubting is good. They shouldn't just take his word.
Chinese teacher actually why when they dub do they use someone with a stupid accent that you can't understand if they gonna dub over it with English why not get an english person to do it in an english accent so we can actually understand it
Abacus is originally from China dammit. Japan use chopstick / wooden fan / caligraphy / chinese traditional medicine all from china. Chinese medicine rule proof is that the population is so large. medicine works.

Seems a little skeptical, which I can't blame him being a cynic type myself. Not that I am cynical that people like Daniel exist. I think they could be more common. People are afraid to show their true abilities out of various fears and societal norms and such. People see colours with music etc.

I lived in Japan from the age of 11-14. I went to a Japanese school as part of a program between my school/the Japanese school and learned how to use the soroban. *I think that's what it was called. It's been years.* It was really cool.
Imagine your own beautiful world where you know everything, and where it belongs. Now imagine that one day, while taking a stroll through this magnificent land of yours, that there's a massive crater where once was a wondrous mountainside. Shai Azoulai is a pompous dick.
