  • Your top loop is so small. I like mine a tad bit bigger:)

  • That looks like a fairly recent installation. It's sad that, with the studios hellbent on getting rid of 35mm film as a presentation medium and most theatres now contractually obligated to junk their 35mm equipment when they go digital, all that perfectly good equipment will be destined for the scrapyard. Quite a depressing death sentence for a 100-plus-year-old workhorse of a format.

  • @arclamp amen brother.

  • FIlm better. Case closed.

  • glad to see that people are still using film because film will always be better than digital.

  • I used to work for Famous Players from 2002-2004. I became a projectionist in early '04 and held that position until the end of that year (I was 20 when I left.) It's good seeing this video in 2011 to know that some cinemas still show films this way. This video reminds me of my time working in the booth and how much I loved it. I'm a cinema lover and I still consider it to be one of the best jobs I had in my lifetime. It saddens me to know that things are rapidly changing over to digital.

  • @najix :) it's a great job and yeah many many theaters are going to digital right this year and last year I assume. I work at an AMC theater and my particular one, right now is 10 digital projectors and 10 35mm. So it's quite interesting to see the transition. Fortunately, projectionists still need to be around to operate the "computers" and "ingest" content.

But one day our theater will be all automatic and on a schedule but someone will still need to verify it goes on screen, etc. etc.

  • @najix Anyways, thanks for the comment, glad you liked the video :)

  • so is this job easy or you you have to do alot stuff?

  • @autococker12 it's mostly easy but when shit hits the fan, shit hits the fan

  • Yeah i will defiantly find a new job if they cut my hours.

  • From what i have heard we will keep our jobs running the digitals. But I dont know for sure. My theater just got bought by a different company so a lot of things are changing. Oh btw good job on getting your brain calibrated haha

  • @crazy13223 lol ...right right

my theater - they are cutting booth hours down to 25 (per week) so it'll be about 2 people running total (at least on hours) and all the operators are going to the floor (I'm looking for a different job)

  • We still use 35mm in my theater, im a projectionist there. but we are switching to all digital in a couple of months. We use the same platters but use christie projectors.

  • @crazy13223 gotcha gotcha, yeah we are switching all digital in less than a year most likely - are you looking for a new job yet? haha

  • Great to see. i think i still have some film myself around the house.

  • @larrythelookout do you really? awesome. :)

  • @rebelyell91 Was this shot on manual if so what was your setup?

  • you should of taken that anamorphic lens and put it on your cam

  • @XperimentalVisuals haha definitely not

  • you use isco lens :P

  • I, for one, refuse to attend theaters that have thrown out film for video.

  • @CeruleanFilms interesting boycott

  • The fact that 35mm is being thrown out for such a grossly inferior technology is a SHAMEFUL DISGRACE. Theater staff, filmmakers, and moviegoers need to lobby the theater chains to at least KEEP THE PROJECTORS IN THE BUILDING and allow the option for both formats. There is no digital system in existence today that can even approach the contrast, latitude, and resolution that 35mm (if printed optically) is capable of holding. Throwing out film for digital is like throwing out DVD for VHS.

  • What movie is on the 35mm?

  • 4:56-5:36, great movement

how did you get it so smooth?

  • @levy3poop used a flatbed dolly or "cart" - had a... person slowly push me and the camera. :)

we did like 6 takes haha

  • @rebelyell91

    haha

i would have put a tripod on the cart

but your repeated tries shows your dedication!

    kudos!

  • @levy3poop well it was a tripod on the cart, so I guess I didn't need to be on there lol

  • Which projector is that?

  • @piroysqrd It's a Strong Simplex Millennium with Strong Platters Systems

  • ??

  • awesome camera work, i like it alot!

  • @funkiershit thanks a bundle!

  • ....it was also reported the police found a half-eaten bowl of rice on the floor of the projection booth next to the unconscious projectionist. Police are still looking for leads in the investigation.

    heheehehe :)

  • When the digital projector is in place which is nothing more than a box with a fan running, shoot a 5:52 sec video of it!. Then watch this one again. Which video was more interesting to put up on YouTube?

  • @havedogwillscooter haha glad you experienced in person and thanks for starting that movie! :P wasn't it hard?

  • WHAT MOVIE WAS IT!!!!!!

  • Artistic ! i like

  • @AridersLife thanks! glad you liked it

  • So uhhh. wtf was the point of this?

  • :O You know it's against YouTube rules, and the law for that matter to upload copyrighted movies right? ;) ;)

Very interesting stuff! Nice camera work! :)

  • That was very interesting. I guess the projection dude can't just watch the movie then. There is all that noise and stuff to do.

  • Very Cool! Great camera work =)

  • @Croaker345 Thanks (:

  • loved it dude!

    it was really cool!

i'm in the audio-visual business, (i work at a tv station here in portugal) and all this kind of stuff is fascinating for me!

awesome video you got here... thumbs up for ya :D

    briliant

  • @canis002 interesting man! I really want to work at a TV station here in Arizona, US - How do you enter such a field as an entry level?

    thanks for watching too

  • @rebelyell91

well.. i kinf of been working towards this job for a wille now... when i left high school i went in to audio-visual school.. stayed there for 3 years.. after that i used the conection i got in school.. like my teachers since they all worked in the busines... i got oferd an internship on a local TV station... and thats it.. thats how i got where i am.

my job its to keep the channels on the air.. like.. control the continuity of the channels... movies.. comercials.. promos.

  • Anyway...what movie was playing? :)

  • @ToastToGo I forgot :(

  • @ToastToGo Looks like......Inception. BWAAAAAAAAHM!

  • Ahhhh amazing. Such a complicated process. But seeing the film in today's world...makes me wonder why all theaters aren't digital already. This looks really old fashioned compared to all innovations and inventions in today's tech world. Great video, I've always wanted to go into a projection room.

  • @ToastToGo well 35mm film projection is just the tradition and a lot of people love it's feel and look - also film stock has been improving over time and I hear has been compared to 9K resolution or something like that haha.

Anyways - thanks for watching Toast, you are awesome.

  • @rebelyell91 No...YOU are awesome!

  • @ToastToGo

From what ive heard the big issue is piracy. The movie studios fear that the more things go digital the easier it will be to copy, leak, or share. Considering a big amount of money comes from new releases, staying with 35mm makes it extremely difficult to make high quality copies. However, they have seen the light and are coming to their senses, most movie theatres within a few years will be all digital, its much easier and cheaper in the long run.

  • Lots of spinning things! =O

Digital projection will lessen the space required for the equipment, won't it?

What will happen to the quality? I hope it improves, or remain the same at least...

Ride safe, I just hope they don't make rice digital too... =I

  • @fillipd haha Digital will be the same quality or better (depending on who you talk to) and also allows for more 3D features.

the yes Digital projectors take less space. (which isn't a big deal anyways) lol

and yes, rice needs to stay physical :P

  • @fillipd

Some of the Barco digital projectors are quite monsterous. The old Christie 35mm's we had were tall and slim, when we got our digital projectors we had to modify some of the pedistals to fit. I must say though the quality of digital far surpasses 35mm. A smoother, crisper, and in most cases brighter image is on screen and most importantly it is much more reliable. You will not have any scratches, dust or bad splices to ruin your movie going experience.

  • @VODZ

    Thanks for the info, man!

  • very nice, just a bit too long ^^

  • god i hate film, its sad that with todays tech we are still using the same 35mm film our parents watched as kids. uggh, scratched prints, dust, missing cues, broken bearings, ghosting, shadows, overshoots, wraps

  • @VODZ Digital projection do have it's pros!

  • @rebelyell91

No kidding, pressing play and walking away as we say. The best thing is no building or breaking down prints, this saves our theatre tons of time and payroll. Not to mention shipping a hard drive is much cheaper than shipping 70 pound of film accross the country. Also, no mechanical issues to worry about! However, i do find myself missing that chattering noise the intermittents make when running. Hearing only a couple fans kinda creeps me out.

  • Excellent cinematography. Loved the angles

  • @Blixerz thanks :)

  • that room sounds so noisy! o-o

  • @CushFilez You don't notice it after a while. I do reading and homework in the booth all the time.

  • reminds me of one of those goldberg contraptions

  • haha how does your boss feel about you bringing a camera in there?

  • Great video. It made me think of the inside of a space ship (Saucer), or the doings in the Pentagon. Are you an alien, or spy?

  • @cashstore1 haha alien for sure (spys are lame)

Were you inside a space ship (saucer) at one point Glenn? haha

  • @rebelyell91 My real surname is Saucier. So I am a Saucer. I am trying to communicate with other aliens.

  • its cool the McLovin made a guest appearance.

  • @upshift22 haha, I was just about to post the same thing. That guy looks exactly like McLovin.

  • way more complicated than i thought. there's so much stuff going on. i thought it was simply wheel to projector to wheel. the end. that film zig-zagged all over the place!

  • @upshift22 yeah, it does look complicated but a lot of things are going on to project that image and sound!

  • 5:10, what did you use for that shot?

  • @garr6t9 a dolly - literally haha.

just a standard flat bed "cart" "dolly" etc.

  • Really well done!

  • @JimNtexas Thanks Jim :) we need to meet up soon!

  • where did you film this? and do most cinemas these days run digital?

  • @xDjAsOnF at a movie theater booth :) and theaters mostly still run 35mm I'd say but some/most are going all digital or mostly

  • do they still have to do the changeover every so often? all the movie ive seen still have the cigarette burn in the corner but it looks like what you filmed looks to complicated to do a changeover on

  • @mister0ldschool all 35mm film do have cigarette burns and most all projectors use and have change overs (although the change over now-a-days are only used to block light and not to "change over" to the next reel (platters systems made that obsolete).

  • @rebelyell91 any idea on when they are going to make the switch to digital?

  • I totally got a job at a theater just so I could learn projection... Unfortunately its a management position and we are getting rid of some of the 35mm projectors soon... I'm trying to make manager as fast as possible. :P

  • @fpscrash1992 you better do it fast indeed. :)

  • Very cool. I bet hauling them cans up and down the stairs gets old after awhile.

I bet flipping a switch to accept the downstream for a motion picture to be projected will be a lot easier in the near future.

  • @LEXPIX luckily we have a dolly and an elevator :P

and half of our projectors now are digital and all we do it press a touch screen. haha

  • so thats how you and zmagic know each other

  • @Gibson2471 we go back since high school actually

  • @Infinityand2 work at an entry level job at a movie theater

  • Maybe you should think about going to some sort of film school. This was a really good video Reb.

  • @pulse0000 I am thinking about it actually but we'll see

  • Back in the day, you made a video where you parked your bike inside the theater stairwell. You know that one? I love that one.

  • @geodubb that was Zmagic97

  • @rebelyell91 ...Awkward (Referring to geodubb comment)

  • @rebelyell91 Oh yeah, sorry, haha, that explains why I couldn't find it

  • I've threaded our film projector 6 times in 3 years muahaha... We've been digital for 10 years and soon we should have a 3D projector too :) can't wait for black ops on that!

  • @amberTrichome haha niceeeeee

  • Very artistic and professional way of filming (no pun intended) this.

  • @legr8est1234 thanks, it's nothing really, I just wanted more experience using some cinematic techniques a bit

  • Honestly, I was all into it until the midget started banging the hooker.... Wait, what?

  • Splice a frame from a pornographic movie into a Disney film.

  • @tuubul I've always thought of that - perhaps on my last day lol

  • @rebelyell91 not that I work at a movie theater...

  • @rebelyell91 ¬¬

  • wtf

  • The end of film cans... Wow

Never thought I woud see the day.....

  • @KlrSarge well, the start of the end of 35mm projection perhaps...

  • what movie was it playing?

  • @jkcrusher18 I forget

  • I cant believe i just watched 6 minutes of this....its hypnotizing,....

  • I can't believe they still use those things! I guess when you pay $XXX,XXX for one of thoses, you try to make your investment last!

  • @epsilon6 oh yeah, many many theaters still use 35mm film - some are going all digital though...

  • damn ppl thinking its cool to be num 1, num 2 is the new num 1.

  • yay 1st 2 watch, rate n commet WE-DILALIT WE-DILALIT WE-DILALIT AGEN!
