Aye man as an experienced director / cinematographer with 6 full length features under my belt, this short looks awesome! Much respect to you man. I can guarantee you all those people that dislike this video are all Canon 5D, 7D lovers..LoL!! Thats why they are hating.LoL! Keep doing your thing homie!
Very interesting concept! a few points; I loved the cinematography on the fight scene, very cinematic in my opinion and I also very much loved how well done your green screen job was. My only (constructive)criticism would be to work on your indoor lighting techniques(I only just learned them properly myself), other than that I loved it. cheers.
damn alot of hating on this ! why people hate so much on this video? hey atleast he made one with a red one ! how about yall? lol witha walmart cam ? hater ! good job broo nice greenscreen scene too!
looked great and the story seemed interesting. Don't think that all films have to look the same and be lit the same. still learning and experimenting here but seems like the jvc hd110 or hd250 is just as cinematic if not more so. .
oh yeah, and watch for things like foot steps, when hes running in the garage they dont match up, whoever is your foley artist must have been sleeping...Im no experienced movie maker, but I know that if I have that kind of money to rent a red one, you better believe its going to be a killer video. keep it up but next time, spend more TIME instead of spending so much MONEY.
for the record. we shot this the first week we had the camera and the total budget for the entire short was $60 for a few pizzas. this is not some rich kids pet project. this is a bunch of VERY hard working filmmakers just trying to do their best. have fun being a misinformed, guerilla, martyr though.
...ok, let me just say this, if your going to spend that kind of money to rent a red one, why would you allow for all other aspects of the film to go to shit? The acting was horrible, "I'm going to make the button" just sounds funny, the dialoge was akward, and the man in the white room was just funny sounding. At any point did you say to yourself, "Im making a low budget film about pushing a button"? I know I sound like a dick, but try and take it as more constructive feedback.
Trynfocus could have said it a little nicer but hes making complete sense. The directing was decent. But come on man dude dies and then some guy is telling him to make a button. when the audience is lost then you havent done a good job. Im lost. on the other hand i dont expect you to find oscar worthy actors, and the action was SICK, and the shot when hes running throught the garage Fantastic. But dont take criticism to the heart man. just let it make you a better director.
Proof that lighting and acting help. Not to be a wet blanket but this is proof that just because you have the red doesn't make you a filmmaker, your still a videographer that needs to learn lighting, I'm in the same boat.
Some takes look better and some dont look that good , i would move the guy away from the wall cause take when he is sitting dont look that good , wall is too sharp and it looks more like regular video cam.Just move him forward when cam is in fron of him to make the wall blurry.Take with fan looks ok.
I dunno if it's the youtube transfer but some shots seems kind of soft. What kind of lenses did you use and what was your aperture if you don't mind me asking.
Great images, but why is the depth of field so short on the Red One? I don't understand why high rez equals short DOF, and haven't heard good explanations. It does create a good effect though, if you want certain images ultra sharp while others are blurred It gives it a mystery/noirish feel, which of course you used it for.
The sensor size, Focal length, Aperture and subject distance determine depth of field. The RED One has a super 35mm sensor that means the DOF is roughly the same as any Hollywood 35mm production.
You obviously put a lot of time into this work and therefor I respect it as an artistic piece. I'm just a bit bothered with the poor sound effects of the gun, you could've made your own gun sounds, or searched for better ones. Those sounded like they belonged in Counter-Strike. Also, I'm not a fan of tripods whatsoever, however - that's my personal opinion, I would've liked to see more camera movement.
Good work other than that, I know how hard it is to work with movies!
I think the conversion to YouTube doesn't help either but yeah, good, accurate, full sounding gun sounds have not been very easy for me to acquire in the past.
@ChillpointNews Thank goodness there was smooth movement. You can have camera movement that's not shaky. There are other things besides the tripod that are stabilizers
We don't know the girl enough to care if she gets killed or not. So that's why there is no tension in the plot. The lighting in garage works great. But what is about that shoot out. They are firing those bullets at each others like it is airsoft. And After efects gunshots are obvious even in this small resolution.
The timeline for the effects was very rushed, we will freely admit that and they were in fact airsoft guns of some sort, but in terms of the girl we were limited to 6 mins I believe and so it was hard to fit everything in. There is always next time, but thanks for your comments.
Excellent footage. the red one blows any other digital camera away. No Sony or Panasonic camera should be even metion in the same sentence. Im just trying to get my hands on at the Red Scarlet comes out next year.
yeah, this footage is pretty impressive, i mean for it to be raw footage it looks pretty good, but the overall quality of this short film is incredible, it doesn't really matter how filmish or color graded the project may look, its how the project was directed and worked that defines its cinelook. props to the blare guys.
The Red One is heavenly. Viewers of Youtube are seeing a compressed film that is just Youtube quality. The Blair guys work hard, know their stuff, and are extremely talented. I am not a shill for these guys, and they have neither asked me to write this nor know I have done it. If you want excellence in creating anything, the BLAIR guys are the ones to hire. Top quality work, worth every penny.
(I'll slip you the $20 later) Thanks for the compliments. and to prove we did not tell him to write this I don't even know who it is, although I could probably figure it out. we are doing our best and whatever anyone else has to say is up to them - thanks.
The director and editor on this piece chose to not change the footage at all on many of these scenes, so they look exactly like they did when they came out of the camera, maybe if they were graded more, like basically every movie made in the last ten years, they would be more to your liking, sorry I didn't call you first. Also, how many HVX's do you own that shoot 120 FPS? I would love to buy one from you.
Have you ever used an XL1? do you understand how depth of field works? do you understand anything about color grading? do the words dynamic latitude ring a bell? If any of these concepts were anywhere in your lexicon as a filmmaker you would not make such statements. that was basically a one click key at an ASA over 500, I will give you $100 if any HVX with an adapter ever made can give me a perfect one click key in low lighting w/out having to spend exponentially more time to get it right.
This short was written and directed by Matt Sconce. BLARE Media provided the lighting and camera package and did the majority of the camera work (everything but the Steadicam) and operated as Director's of Photography. I'm proud of everyone involved. Thanks.

It's because it was posted before Youtube had HD feature. If they post it again now it would look really better than that blurry video.

there are definitely differences but most modern HD cameras with 35mm lenses can look awesome.

Correct, having equipment does not make you a good filmmaker. Also, having a keyboard does not mean you can spell.
