  • The one and only Brigadier. And the one and only Nicholas Courtney. What a man he was. I love Mike's exasperated expressions in this scene. Plus Bok the Gargoyle was one of the most memorable Doctor Who adversaries. At last 'The Daemons' is coming to DVD this year! Hallelujah! About time!

  • Jenkins, you don't say "ya" to a higher ranking officer, you say "yes sir". Jeesh, even i know that.

  • Meh stuff the new UNIT, the old UNIT with the Brigadier, Benton and Yates was so much more fun and action orientated. The Robot and Daemons have to be the best episodes for them!

  • @abskwl Invasion of the Dinosaurs and Terror of the Zygons are also two very good UNIT shows featuring Pertwee-era UNIT.

Terror of the Zygons, sadly is the final appearance of the Pertwee era UNIT team of the Brig, Benton and company, BUT it is a VERY good story for them.

  • @glnelson1956 Ah yeah forgot about Terror of the Zygons, Tom Baker's line of 'is that a big enough explosion for you Brigadier?' is brilliant!

Wasn't a big fan of the Dinosaur one as a kid, rather large fear of Dinosaurs when I was 10, still getting over it 8 years later!

  • if Courtney had followed his charter the brig in to teaching then he looks like a math teacher from hell "jenkings boy who failed algebra, five rounds rapid" FIRE

  • My favorite line is his last classic Doctor Who appearance.

"The Destroyer: Ah... little man. What do you want of me?

    Brigadier: Get off my world!

The Destroyer: Pitiful. Can this world do no better than you as their champion?

Brigadier: Probably. I just do the best I can. "

  • The Brig represented everything that was good about British reserve, dry wit, and just good old fashioned stiff upper lippedness :)

  • I just love how nonchalantly he gives the order, LIKE A BRIG!

  • i know a guy named edison865 and he did some amazing colourizations of ambassadors of death and invasion of the dinosaurs.look him up.

  • uh did anyone else think weeping angel

  • @camoblackhawk no, in fact when I saw the weeping angels I thought "Daemons"

  • no offense, but i really dont understand why this is such a celebrated line.

it is good and all, but what makes it so amazing?

  • @kaledranger18 it has more impact when you watch the whole episode and aren't expecting it, but if you've had it quoted to you a million times before you watch a clip of it for the first time, then I'm not surprised if it doesn't seem all that special to you.

Best explanation i can think of atm: it was the calm, unruffled nature of his reaction to a gargoyle walking around blowing stuff up. It had all the surprise and fluster of finding out that the best china was too dirty to use for tea.

  • I rather love the line at the start too, "What the blazes is that? Some kind of ornament?"

  • That's one of those lines that you can read, but only appreciate the full brilliance of when you watch it again.

  • @SimonFoston Thats right, hence my posting, although only people who are currently 37 can apreciate it ;->

  • Now this was UNIT in the good old days. SAS berets, SLRs, five rounds rapid and home for tea and crumpets.

  • @SnakeOnAPlane yeh...lol

  • @SnakeOnAPlane Ah the SLR/FN FAL was a good bit of kit.

I wonder why they've moved to the red beret In NuWho. Possibly to make a more dramatic distinction with the black fatigues, or maybe the SAS have some sort of copyright on sand coloured Berets in the Royal Army.

'course one would think they'd be chuffed that the biggest alien-fighters of the Royal Army would be wearing their beret.

  • @edaw1982 I think you mean BRITISH Army. Remember, the army as we know it today was founded by Oliver Cromwell, not a monarch. As for the colour of berets, I wouldn't have thought so. No regiment of any country can claim a monopoly on a beret colour. If an army surplus has them, then fictional media has carte blanche to use it. Apart from maybe UN blue ones, thanks to the UN complaining about association with a fictional military force.

P.S. I thought the red berets were a nod to Star Trek.

  • i didnt know he was dead till just now, was thinking to myself how sad it would be if he died just before i found out he was dead :(

  • Two UNIT officer called Jenkins, this Jenkins and Ross Jenkins.

  • @XxCarlieCullenxX I wonder if either of them has the first name Leroy...

  • I always liked the line from "Robot", "Just for once I would like to meet an alien menace that isn't immune to bullets." RIP Brigadier from an American Whovian.

  • @Dannypuck Yes that will always be a much loved line from a much missed friend.

  • @Dannypuck lol i think that line was a mistake on the part of the writers as in day of the daleks the brig shoots dead an ogron who r from another planet and time hence them featured in frontier in space.

  • The Brig meets Paul McCartney--"Chap with Wings, there, five rounds rapid."

  • what episode was this from? RIP Nicholas Courtney

  • @tivafan100 It's from the 1971 story, The Daemons. A corker of a serial. Can't wait till that one gets a DVD release.

  • One of my favourite Dr Who Classic Quotes.. chap with the wings! (Priceless)

  • Fantastic :) RIP Nick Courtney. I always liked one of his lines from the 5 Doctors: "The Doctor? Wonderful chap, all of them..."

  • Comment removed

  • Classic. This, along with "I'm pretty sure that's Cromer."

  • I'm definitely going to miss the brigadier. RIP Mr Courtney.
