By the way, the author of the video didn't use openGL when he recorded the video.. that's the reason why he has so few effects and why he has the black box at 2:35 (and everywhere).
If your graphicscard supports openGL (and you have driver installed), then you can run the cairo-dock with "cairo-dock -o"
@lemler33 i had problems too. i had to hard wire-in then install hardware updates. then it would connect but will Not connect to my wireless using a WEP key 128-bit so i am now using a WPA & WPA2 Personal and is working fine.
I have never been able to configure cairo dock with a transparent background. it always ends up with a black box, as it happened at 2:35 in your video. do u know any fix for that?
I always used Docky, do you recommend this one over it? Is it better in any way? I currently don't have Linux installed here since i needed windows for Visual Studio but once 10.04 comes out next week i'll install it again.

@HeyIamAJ Dude I have have the same prob. Bad news is it'is most likely your graphics card. Meaning that unless you have another driver to use or purchase another graphics card you are out of luck. I share your pain, I am dock-less : /
Can anyone tell me where to get the latest Ubuntu source code? I've heard it was programmed in Python or something like that. Is that true?

Try awn with auto hide, it looks better and has more plugins.

you have to turn on compiz to avoid the black crap, seriously turn it on just for the video at least

@fatkasuvayu
you have to turn on compositing 1. Hit alt-f2 2. Type metacity -c 3. Hit return

@carcrash714 thanks carcrash714! I use XFCE, so instead I did "xfwm4 --compositor=on" and it works like a charm ;)

Great and helpful vid. Does Cairo always have the annoying black box around it??
I've noticed some programs like this have these little compatibility problems and leave odd graphics around bounding areas, or is it a 10.04 glitch?
HeyIamAJ 1 year ago
@HeyIamAJ its a 10.04 glitch. Its only doing it, when I've turned off the graphics.. With the graphics on, theres no black box
UbuntuHelpGuy 1 year ago
@UbuntuHelpGuy Thanks for the reply!
Hope it gets fixed soon, I liked the effects a lot, would be a big feature lost for me with them off.
