Good job! Love how you even told the bus driver "I'll quote you laws is you want." I wish all people were as unashamed as you are over something so natural. I actually wrote a college paper based on your experience and Michigan law called "why are you offended by my baby's lunch?" Even though the teacher (a guy) seemed embarrased by it, he gave me an A and it won a prize for writing at my school! You ARE making a difference in the world, be proud of yourself!
breastfeeding is NEVER indecent and is PROTECTED BY LAWS in most states, INCLUDING MICHIGAN. i hope this and all bus drivers in the area were properly educated on this fact.i am SO PROUD of you for knowing your rights and standing your ground, while somehow managing to remain calm!
You are awesome! Thank you for standing your ground!! This was just a power-hungry worker looking to assert control over a situation where she could have just kept driving. No one has a right to say breastfeeding moms have to stay at home. Well done!
Their needs to be more women like yourself who stand up for themselves when it comes to breastfeeding. It's so sad to see moms go into bathroom stalls to nurse because of what people would say. Nobody has ever said anything to me, but I have gotten lots of horrible looks.
You are right on!! An also I want to say I am very impressed with a young woman so articulate and involved in standing up for your rights and the rights of your children. I also applaud your refusal to defend how you were "dressed".
you are a great example for other women and moms. thanks for doing all you are doing around this incident. what you went through is shameful and deeply sad. i have a two month old (who i am nursing at this moment) and i would attend your nurse-in if i could. Also, your baby is adorable.
Your story really saddens me. I can't believe that they went to such extremes over you trying to feed your baby. Keep doing what you're doing and don't let anyone intimidate you or discourage you.
I regularly nurse my son in public and as he hates having a cover over him - I don't cover up. I've done this in Target, Costco, Kohls, the local grocery store, in a public park...no one has said anything to me. I'm sorry this happened to you - kudos to you for standing up for you and your son.
You damn right we feel entitled to feed in public.... IT'S FOOD STUPID! And for you to compare it to changing your maxi pad in public further shows your ignorance. AND if you don't care witness somebody eating, if scared the tit is gonna pop out and blind you for life just from the sight of it NAWMMBR.... Turn your fucking head.:-)
And for the idiot who said something about swaddling "like all good mothers do", she had a Moby wrap you dummy if its warm outside how much do you want her to cover up?! And as far as "entitlement"?
Continue to feed your baby WHEREEVER you like. It's your choice to cover up if you choose to... Those who don't agree well cover yourself up when you feed yours and if it offends you STOP STARING STUPIDS.
up if don't agree well cover yourself up when you feed yours and if it offends you STOP STARING STUPIDS. And for the idiot who said something about swaddling "like all good mothers do", she had a Moby wrap you dummy if its warm outside how much do you want her to cover up?! And as far as "entitlement"? IT WON'T KEEP ME FROM BREAST FEEDING!!! I am TTC and I do plan to breast feed my child. I am so glad that you were so brave enough to do what you did. The nerve of that woman! I live in Michigan, and when I heard about your story, I went completely OFF! Thank you for standing up for what GOD himself intended for us to do!
hi moon, i am sorry this happened to you. sounds like this bus driver had a power trip. but i think you have a good point and i appreciate you raising awareness on this issue. people today need to separate the laws of nature from nudity. you were feeding your son, and you have every right to do that. again, i am sorry this happened to you. God bless you and your son. Much Love
BRAVO!!!! And to those nay sayers - why don't you throw a blanket over your head next time you want to eat and see how much you like it. I hardly believe you were trying to call attention to yourself - if someone glimpsed part of your breast all they would have to do it look away. Give me a break people - it's just a boob!
The bus driver never said you couldn't breast feed your baby, but that you should cover up. But you refused and stated: "It's not going to happen." "You tell dispatch to come put me off this bus because I'm not getting off." "I can't believe this chick is trying to put me off this bus." That was confrontational, rude and challenging language. You stated this was rude and disrespectful, but you were a part of the back and forth rudeness, and it doesn't matter who started it.
@nawmmbr Public transportation is not always reliable, but those that depend on it were imposed upon, simply because you did not want to cover up. Covering up, in no way would have harmed your baby. People, and their sense of entitlement, just blow me away. Just because "it's natural" doesn't mean everyone wants to witness it. My menstrual cycle is natural and a necessity to my health ("Red Tent Symposium for Women), but I don't change my sanitary products on the bus. All that over a cloth!
@jasmak75 If you have something to say or want to attempt to debate, please say that, but making the above statement says nothing, and provides no opportunity for you to make an intelligent comment. I nursed 3 of my 5 children, and did so without confrontation, and none of them suffocated from a burp cloth. Women who feel the need to make THEIR breastfeeding experience one for the world, need to GET A CLUE, they are not the only women with breasts, but they act as if they are.
I am a mother of 5 children, and breast fed all of them. Question: is there some type of medical impact of tossing a piece of muslin, cheese cloth or cotton blanket over you? I mean the baby was tightly, securely and comfortable bound in your womb, in the dark for 9 months, and then if you swaddled him, like all good mothers do, he was bound for another month. What is the problem with a light covering. I'm just wondering. Also, she did not say you couldn't feed your baby, but to just cover up.
I commend you! it is YOUR right AND your SONS right to nurse you are a role model ..... as a second time mom, I am sure you are able to nurse without"exposing" much anyway.... I have nursed everywhere from NYC subway to courtroom and fortunately NEVER had a negative experience. it may be hard but often the negativity comes from women who were unsupported in breastfeeding and are jealous or haven't addressed their own issues surrounding it.
That's just awful, can't believe the run around that she was given just for feeding her little baby. It's sad to think, like she said, that the experience may turn future mother's away from the prospect of breastfeeding, which is truly one of THE BEST THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CHILD.
I agree with most others! Yay for you for standing up for your right and the rights of your baby (and all of us other nursing mommas!)! I have been breastfeeding my daughter for 15 months and have never experienced any negative attention at all, and it saddens me when I see others go through something like you did. I hope that by the time our babies are mothers that we have changed the way people see breastfeeding! Thank you for sharing your story!
You are awesome! I've been breastfeeding for a total of 3yrs now and I've never had anyone say anything. I was so scared before my first that it might someday happen but so far I've never had a problem. It really is a fear most new moms face.
WTF!!!! A white girl in Florida can kill her baby, and getaway with it, and your taking care of your baby feeding him and now your trying to get thrown off the bus!!!! What the F#@! has this country come too? I breastfed my 4 babies and sure enough wouldn't let NO ONE...or a F#$&*! up busdriver get a hair up her ass for me feeding my baby!!!!! I would have let her called the police, bus station, or where ever she had to call just like you did!!!! Hope someone treats her like she treated you!
Chilich33z you are an idiot , it us a women's right to feed their child if you don't like thus video don't watch it , your no better than that bus driver , if you knew anything u should now pump or bottle feed until ur baby is 6 weeks ... Congrats to you mom my heart goes out to you for the pain you had to endure
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Get the Fuck off the bus moon pie. I don't want to see your fat milky tits or your babies dirty diaper. Just because you can spit out a baby doesn't mean I have to deal with your issues.
good for you for standing up for yourself, your baby, and for all other nursing mothers out there! it's a real shame that some people view breastfeeding to be something that is offensive or lewd, instead of what it is: PERFECTLY NORMAL! i'm sure this bus driver has seen more "titty" (you're right, how vulgar), by allowing some girls and women in barely-there tank tops to ride the bus than she was able to see while you were feeding your baby.
It made my blood boil to read about this incident! Like another poster I wish I was on a bus with my nursing toddler so I could stick up for you. Thank you for not letting it slide, hopefully this incredible ignorance that the driver demonstrated (I can't believe she was a female driver on top of everything!) will eventually be a thing of a past.
Wish I was there on that bus with you nursing my 17-month old! You didn't mention if anyone else on the bus stuck up for you. I hope someone supported you. People need to stand up for a mother who is obviously not in an easy position of taking public transportation with 2 kids, 2 car seats and a stroller. To be harassed like that with your 2 week old must have felt awful. I'm sorry. Listening to you speak about your experience reminded me of Rosa Parks. Thank you for your courage.
I'm so glad you stood up for your breastfeeding rights! It doesn't matter if you are covered up enough, you are entitled to feed you baby in public. I love that you mentioned the Moby wrap too :) Your baby is beautiful BTW.

The SMART bus drivers are rude, racist and unprofessional and I am glad that their stupidity made the national news. The bus drivers are very nasty and rude and you would be happier moving somewhere else. The driver would never have treated a white woman in this fashion hope you sue and get a major pay day. I moved from Michigan and I am so happy. I don't miss the evil people and crappy transportation system. I will be sure to write a letter on your behalf, they already know me.
excellent. thanks. when my daughter was born in my school bus, where i lived... home birth was illegal! we since managed to reverse that law, but you know i could've been charged with a crime if something went wrong and we weren't in hospital. of course if something went wrong from being in the hospital, it there would be no legal basis for suing the hospital! i nursed my baby (now eighteen) for two years, organic food since. she has been the healthiest child of all her friends always.
I just watched your video over on thestir.cafemom.com and wanted to let you know that all American women should be very proud of you! Thank you for making this video to explain your side of the story in a well thought out and gracious manner! Good luck in the future, and congratulations on the birth of your son!
Afrykan, You are a corageous and wonderful mother. Your children are lucky to have a brave and smart mother. That bus driver was an ignorant and had I been a passenger on that bus, I would have let her have it. So much good luck to you...
Good luck at the nurse-in! I am originally from Redford, now living in LA. If I was in the area, I'd be there with my three month old son, breastfeeding alongside of you. And had I been on the bus that day, I would've stood up and supported you. Your civil rights were violated that day. Call the ACLU!
Ignorance abounds! I live in a conservative state & NEVER had a problem nursing in public. I visited my in-laws in N.J. & had a similiar situation w/o police because I did stop at the request of the mngemnt. I allwed my children 2 run wild. When mngemnt apprched me about this situation-- I told them if they won't allow me to feed my child then they will just have 2 suffer the consequences. I just wish someone had stepped forward & supported u. I would have had I been there. Keep on nursing.
I am so sorry you had to go through what you had to go through, I am a mother of seven and have breast fed all of my children and it is important, and it is very discouraging to other young women to have to see things like that, but if you can be determined to keep pressing, then it will all be worth it in the end. Good for you for standing up for something you believe in.
Thank you for making this video, it's nice to hear the real story & not just what the media decides to share. It sounds like this bus driver has some issues she needs to work on. She got upset about everyting & would not let it go, I don't think she should work with the public.
Thank you for being such a brave & strong mama! It is so insane that people have issues with the most normal & natural behavior there is. I hope you have a great nurse-in. You go mama!
I applaud you and praise you for standing up for your rights!!! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It's one thing to read about these things but to hear the story first hand is more impressive.
@andrewynes Maybe you should cover your head when you are eating a lunch or dinner in public. You are ignorant and have obviously never nursed a child. Some children do not like to have their head covered on a hot summer day when they are eating. Maybe you should think about that before you make judgment. SInce the bus driver had to ask her if that was her breast I am sure she wasn't just hanging out for everyone to see. And you obviously no nothing about pumping breast milk either.
I just went to SMARTbus.org to file a complaint (even though I live in AZ) and see that they have featured their bfing policy on the home page - they are taken the complaints seriously and the driver has been suspended! Hope they investigate the dispatcher the driver spoke to! Way to go, Ms. Moon!!!
Thank you for standing up for yourself, your son, and for nursing mothers and babes! I have been very apprehensive about nursing in public, but you have just helped me become that much stronger. I live in AZ, I just wanted to let you know that you are reaching a lot of people.
wow that is sooo disrespectful of her !!! Good for you for standing your ground ..it sucks that here in the US people are so breastfeeding phobic and your absolutely right it is very discouraging to other moms ..I have gotten some dirty looks but nothing like that wow just wow stupid bus driver !!
Just to give you a man's opinion (and I'm a stay-at-home Dad). You did nothing wrong, I hope you never have to go through that again and I hope the bus driver gets fired. Good luck to you, your family, and your endeavors.
Just had to comment! I am SO very inspired by you and you courage and advocacy for nursing mothers' rights everywhere. Especially with breastfeeding rates among African American women being so low. You're a hero! I can't believe someone would be so adamant about harassing a mother doing something that is natural and beautiful. So sad. Wish I could be at the nurse-in, but I'm in VA. Sending good thoughts your way, and I applaud you for being so strong and giving your baby the best start in life.
GOOD FOR YOU!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EDUCATING YOURSELF AND STANDING UP FOR ALL MOTHERS! Even if some women don't know better (SAD)! I just moved to Roseville, MI I am out of town or I WOULD BE THERE for the NURSE IN!!! I will follow in case there is a need for future nurse in when I come back in town Sunday (the 3rd). I am so glad you had the courage to stand up for OUR Rights!!! Sending love and blessings to you and yours Moon!
Ms. Moon, you are amazing! I'm in Texas and my sister's in Arizona and we both want you to know inspiring women all over the US. We only wish we could be there to support you in person.
Good for you for standing up for your rights and your baby! As a midwife I know there are so many barriers in our culture to nursing our babies. This bus driver should be charged with violating your civil rights.
Ms. Moon, I Praise You for standing up 4 u and every woman out here! I Know U felt like Rosa Parks in so many ways. I have your video on my pages to spread the knowledge. Knowledge of what we learned in history book or in class can happen 2day & just like then we have people who are inspirational & stand up for their rights and ms. moon U are one of them not just for your rights but 4 promoting breast feeding so many mothers don't so from a man's perspective I praise your actions & is supportive
This is insane! You are trying to feed your child and care for another child, all the while hauling stuff around on a bus and you get harassed like that! This is unconscionable. The bus driver was just on a power trip.
We admire your courage! You're right that it wasn't about how much or little you were showing. This was discrimination against breastfeeding. No one would have cared if your were formula feeding. It's time America started seeing breasts as a way to nourish a baby.
As other people said, thank you for standing up! I'm proud to nurse in public, but I know I'd just leave if something like this happens to me! We need more people like you! And this is totally unrelated, but you are very beautiful! ;)
How horrible. You were totally right about how this sends a negative message and discourages other. People need to know the laws. If I were still nursing, I would probably ride the SMART bus just to send a message. I wish I could have been there to support you on the bus. I definitely will be writing a letter and sending an email. Keep us posted on any new developments or anything others can do to help. What a doggone shame! You go girl for taking a stand. We need more people like you!
Ms. Moon, you are amazing! If this had happened to me, I don't think I would have had the grace, poise, and courage you demonstrated to continually stand up for myself in the face of such gross ignorance and blatant harassment. More power to you! You're a role model for all of us nursing moms.
I have also been harassed for public breastfeeding. Thank you so much for telling your story and standing your ground! Both of mine were breastfed for a year. Keep fighting for our rights as mothers and the health of our young ones and I'll do the same! Peace and love! - Kim
I really appreciate you standing up for all of us and staying strong. Thank you! Also...if there is anything we can do to go after this bus-driver and the company she works for, please let us know.
That is an outrage, and down right disrespectful. I hope you contacted her supervisor and whomever else. She should be put on suspension or fired. I've nursed on the bus and had a good experience. I live in WA and most bus drivers are great.
I really appreciate you channeling your frustration in a positive way. Education and cultural change occurs one experience at a time. You are a hero and role model. All the best to you.
I really appreciate you channeling your frustration in a positive way. Education and cultural change occurs one experience at a time. You are a hero and role model. All the best to you.
This is truly horrible. You were brave in a very sad situation. I would have been in tears had this happened to me. I submitted an online complaint form on your behalf.
Ms. Moon!!! From one nursing mom to another, I am so proud of you that you stood up for your rights and the rights of your sweet baby. There should be serious consequences for this woman who treated you and your children with such hate, disrespect, and ignorance. Wish I could be at the nurse-in with my still nursing 3.5 year old, but I am sending my support from California!! Peace and Love, mama!!!!
What a terrible experience! Good for you for sticking up for yourself, and for fighting for the rights of mothers and children.
Such an experience is really sad, especially since breastfeeding is so important for the health of babies and mothers, and so many women don't do it (especially women of color), probably exactly for reasons like what happened to you.
THANK YOU for posting this! THat is ridiculous! I would have been in tears. That bus driver needs to be fired!! OMG! I hope she faces major repercussions for her behavior and I hope the nurse in and this video will help make drivers aware of the law and a woman and babies right to BREASTFEED IN PUBLIC!!!
HELL YES! Good for you for not getting off that bus!!! I nursed for 13 months and I was fortunate enough to never have to deal with anything like this!!!!
I am deeply saddened that this happened to you. I am so grateful for your strength of will and determination to provide the best thing you can for your child. I sent in a complaint to the website you provided. I hope that something is done to rectify this situation soon!
I appreciate your strength and courage. We have the right to feed our children in public places. I live in Atlanta but my heart and spirit will be with you all on July 1st. I'll also post this information on my blog. Sisterly - Sojourner
Ms. Moon, YOU ROCK!! Thank you for standing up not only for yourself and your baby, but for all Nursing Mama's everywhere!!! You have truly been an inspiration. <3 Wish I could be there for the nurse in, but I'm in CA. I'll be there in spirit!!
Way to go, Mama! -So happy for you and your children, that you stood up to the driver's obnoxious harassment. Thank you for posting this video. Your courage will inspire other mothers to have the strength and peace of mind to also reject the opinions of those who try to discourage them from feeding their children in public.
That was horrible! I am so sorry that happened! I live in Chicago and there are posted signs on our trains and buses about the rights of the elderly, handicapped, expectant mothers, and nursing mothers. It's illegal for any driver or passenger to do what happened to you. I hope something changes. I posted this on my facebook page.
Im so happy to see that you stood up for yourself!!! I'd like to know where the nurse will be...im close to pontiac...but would happily travel to be at the nurse in!!!
I am so sorry that ignorance is so prevalent in in our society. I am also so proud of you for standing your ground and being a strong mother and knowing how to insert yourself and not act a fool. We both know that nursing your child is the most natural and only way God intended for us to feed our children so keep up the good work and I am here to support you in any way I can.
Im shocked you were so adamently harassed. Keep doing what your doing and feeding that beautiful boy proudly! As a fellow NIP, no covers needed Michigan mom: THANK YOU!!!!
Good for you! You were very strong and well-spoken in the face of that harassment. I don't think most people could maintain their composure like you did. You're awesome!
Good for you! You were very strong and well-spoken in the face of that harassment. I don't think most people could maintain their composure like you did. You're awesome!
Way to stand up for yourself and your baby and way to be a great example to your toddler! Sorry you had to deal with this at all. Shame people have to be so awful to one another. Your baby is cute!
You are an INSPIRATION! Way to go, momma. I certainly wish I could be in Detroit with you this Friday but I am in B.C. That said, I am there in spirit and I am spreading this as far as I can. I am so, so proud of you for sticking up for your rights and the rights of every nursing mother.
I am so sorry you were treated so poorly, and so glad you stuck up for yourself and your baby. It's outrageous that anyone would try to stop a person from feeding their child naturally. I hope you file a law suit against the driver and the bus company for harassment and attempts to interfere with your legal right to nurse your baby.
You are so right in your commentary at the end of your video. This goes beyond one mother and one baby and is part of the problem with our anti-breastfeeding culture. Hopefully rather than a future mother being frightened off of breastfeeding by witnessing your experience, she will remember the mother who confidently stood up for her and her baby's rights. Good luck to you!
There is nothing new that I can add that someone else hasn't already said. YOU are a wonderful example. What you experienced was completely unnecessary. **HUGS** to you girl!!
I'm very proud of you & you're a big hero! I'd love to attend the nurse-in but I'm 16, have no child to nurse, and live in Canada. I'm definitely there in spirits though and thank you and everyone attending for standing up for our rights. Hopefully when I have my own children I can breastfeed on cue whenever and wherever I want with ease!
PROUD OF YOU MAMA!!!! I am so sad this happened, even more so that no one stood up for you! i would have blasted that bus driver, she probably would have kicked ME OFF! Thank you for being courageous and taking a stand! As more and more of us keep standing up we WILL get the respect breastfeeding deserves!
Good for you! Well said, and good for you for standing up for your rights! It stinks that you had such a rotten experience with such an ignorant driver!
I am proud of you for your courage to say NO and to stand beside your LEGAL right. This would never have happened if you had pulled out a bottle and fed your child a bottle of formula, and that is disgusting. Go mama!! ~From one nursing mama to another.
I am proud of you for your courage to say NO and to stand beside your LEGAL right. This would never have happened if you had pulled out a bottle and fed your child a bottle of formula, and that is disgusting. Go mama!! ~From one nursing mama to another.
Do you have a link for their website that we can send a complaint to? I'm in Canada and haven't nursed my baby on the bus or metro, but of course I would if he were hungry. I think you added really well despite what happened.
Good for you Mama!!! WE all need to stand up for our rights as mothers and our childrens right to eat ... whenever and wherever!! Other peoples comfort does not trump out childs needs.
Good on ya. I live in Ontario, Canada, I have had 4 kids, ALL were breastfed, and I lost count of how many times someone tried to tell me to cover up or leave, use the washroom or changeroom. One gentleman in a restaurant asked me to go to the washroom and said I was digusting him while he was trying to eat....it's disgusting that people have these views about feeding an baby what was MADE for them! Be proud for standing up for yourself and other mothers!!!
I am so sorry you had to go through this, but I am thankful that you are so strong and fighting this. I am in Alabama, and you remind me of our own Rosa Parks. May you be strengthened in your fight, and may God bless you and your precious babies!
Speaking as someone who has been similarly treated in public, good for you for standing up for your rights. I wish the other passengers stood up for you! I cannot believe that the police got involved! RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!
You are such an amazing woman. You are an inspiration to ALL nursing moms & nurlings!! I am in absolute A-W-E of your strength!! I cannot say enough, just WOW, you are the WOman!!!
Good for you!! I wish I was there for the nurse in, but I'll be thinking about you! I can't believe nobody else on the bus stood up for you. I would've told that woman off!!
There is a nurse in set for Friday, July 1, 2011...There will be a call giving out more info about the nurse in. Please email Keva Williams at candiestaken@gmail.com for the acess code here is the number 213-417-9250. You can also help by sending a online complaint. The drivers name is Darcell and I was riding the 275 bus leave Taylor heading North towards Pontiac at 11:50 am, June 24th. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
{{CHEERING}} Yay! Good for you! I can not believe that bus driver didn't get off her rear and help you onto the bus. Instead she violated your and your baby's rights. Truly horrible! I'm spreading the word from here in VA to support you via the nurse in your honor.
I certainly hope you are pursuing this further. That bus driver needs to be reminded of the FEDERAL LAW that allows women to breastfeed their child anywhere they are legally allowed to be.
Check the laws in your state. I know in FLA is is legal to feed your baby anywhere. I had an issue at target. I was completely covered. In fact you would never know I was feeding my little one except for her little feet were hanging out. I contacted customer service right away. Check out the laws!
I'm so happy you stood up for breastfeeding moms everywhere. It pisses me off that people are so ignorant about breastfeeding. would she have said that to a half naked booty short wearing girl? i doubt it. i will be contacting the Co. Thank you!!
We are here for you, what happened was straight up wrong, and we need to do what we can to change the culture and stand up for our rights. When one breastfeeding mother is violated we are ALL violated! A mother was violated and a CHILDS right to eat was violated.
way to go...feed your baby with confidence, its unfortunate that these situations need to occur to combat the ignorance about breastfeeding. just last week on a Delta flight from San Juan, the flight attendant woke me and asked me, "mam would u mind covering up, would you like a blanket" She literally woke me up. I responded with "No Im covered enough" that was the end of story. I was wearing a dress and a light sweater. The amount of breast showing was minimal...lets keep nursing in public
Wow I can't believe you had to deal with this! I hope there is some outcry that results in re-education for all the bus drivers. So proud of you and you are right on every point you made!! (midwife and lactation specialist)

Great job! Way to stand your ground on your rights as a BF mom!

AND if you don't care witness somebody eating, if scared the tit is gonna pop out and blind you for life just from the sight of it NAWMMBR.... Turn your fucking head.:-)

hi moon, i am sorry this happened to you. sounds like this bus driver had a power trip. but i think you have a good point and i appreciate you raising awareness on this issue. people today need to separate the laws of nature from nudity. you were feeding your son, and you have every right to do that. again, i am sorry this happened to you.

Its been proven breast feeding helps stimulate little brains and helps the grow. Geuss what bus driver must have been given formula as a baby.
e17718 7 months ago
The bus driver never said you couldn't breast feed your baby, but that you should cover up. But you refused and stated: "It's not going to happen." "You tell dispatch to come put me off this bus because I'm not getting off." "I can't believe this chick is trying to put me off this bus." That was confrontational, rude and challenging language. You stated this was rude and disrespectful, but you were a part of the back and forth rudeness, and it doesn't matter who started it.
nawmmbr 7 months ago
@nawmmbr Public transportation is not always reliable, but those that depend on it were imposed upon, simply because you did not want to cover up. Covering up, in no way would have harmed your baby. People, and their sense of entitlement, just blow me away. Just because "it's natural" doesn't mean everyone wants to witness it. My menstrual cycle is natural and a necessity to my health ("Red Tent Symposium for Women), but I don't change my sanitary products on the bus. All that over a cloth!
nawmmbr 7 months ago
@nawmmbr WTF?! Give your clueless head a shake!!!
jasmak75 5 months ago
@jasmak75 If you have something to say or want to attempt to debate, please say that, but making the above statement says nothing, and provides no opportunity for you to make an intelligent comment. I nursed 3 of my 5 children, and did so without confrontation, and none of them suffocated from a burp cloth. Women who feel the need to make THEIR breastfeeding experience one for the world, need to GET A CLUE, they are not the only women with breasts, but they act as if they are.
nawmmbr 5 months ago
I am a mother of 5 children, and breast fed all of them. Question: is there some type of medical impact of tossing a piece of muslin, cheese cloth or cotton blanket over you? I mean the baby was tightly, securely and comfortable bound in your womb, in the dark for 9 months, and then if you swaddled him, like all good mothers do, he was bound for another month. What is the problem with a light covering. I'm just wondering. Also, she did not say you couldn't feed your baby, but to just cover up.
nawmmbr 7 months ago
I commend you! it is YOUR right AND your SONS right to nurse you are a role model ..... as a second time mom, I am sure you are able to nurse without"exposing" much anyway.... I have nursed everywhere from NYC subway to courtroom and fortunately NEVER had a negative experience. it may be hard but often the negativity comes from women who were unsupported in breastfeeding and are jealous or haven't addressed their own issues surrounding it.
giveawayaddy 7 months ago
That's just awful, can't believe the run around that she was given just for feeding her little baby. It's sad to think, like she said, that the experience may turn future mother's away from the prospect of breastfeeding, which is truly one of THE BEST THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CHILD.
Good luck at the big latch-on!

Thank you for sharing your story!

good for you for standing up for yourself, your baby, and for all other nursing mothers out there! it's a real shame that some people view breastfeeding to be something that is offensive or lewd, instead of what it is: PERFECTLY NORMAL! i'm sure this bus driver has seen more "titty" (you're right, how vulgar), by allowing some girls and women in barely-there tank tops to ride the bus than she was able to see while you were feeding your baby.

Thank you for your courage.

excellent. thanks. when my daughter was born in my school bus, where i lived... home birth was illegal! we since managed to reverse that law, but you know i could've been charged with a crime if something went wrong and we weren't in hospital. of course if something went wrong from being in the hospital, it there would be no legal basis for suing the hospital! i nursed my baby (now eighteen) for two years, organic food since. she has been the healthiest child of all her friends always.

Go to Smart Bus .org for whatever reason I can't post a link on here.

GOOD FOR YOU!!! Thank you for nursing your baby in public.
Heard there is a Detroit nurse-in planned for this Friday in your honor. Know any of the details?
