hey, i got a 97 z71, 5.7liter, i got outran by a crown vic today.. what should i do to my engine i can't keep it like this lol..any ideas?

To be honest with u. I day go with a 5.3 or 6.0 do a engine swap. This engine are alot easier to max them fast.

Cuz those 5.7 vortex are slow and u will need alot to make it run. So that said. Go with a 5.3 or 6.0. The 5.3 are running like 400 bucks the 6.0 around 800 to 1200. So it's up to u if u want to go all out.

@1992dakota if you wanna wake up your 5.7 get a full set of 1.6 roller tip rocker arms a set of long tube headers an a BB tune an a accell coil an you will own just about any truck out there besides like a lighting or srt 10

well what do you want to do to ur truck how fast u wanna go and how much u wanna spend

all i have done to it is headers, cold air intake, exhaust, electric fans thats it...do you recommend getting it tuned? what about those tune programs like Superchips, hypertech ect...are those any good? im willing to spend some money to make it faster, a couple g's

Dont get any programers get nelson tune that is what i got improved my truck a lot.

dont go with the self tuners..get it dyno tuned real easy...and if you are willing to spend some money dont waist it on a 4.8...i got one myself and there is not much you can do....it is more of a slowshow motor and the cam just makes it sound prettier.....id go with a 5.3 and cam it out headers, a 3500 or 4000 stall, and maybe some nitros about 125 shot... youll gain alot more than you would in the 4.8 trust me

If you want him to drop in a 5.3 why not just go bigger with the 6.0? Its bolt in anyway.

well idk what you did to your truck but i have 04 gmc reg cab 4.8 and it only weighs 4000 lbs.

i weighted my truck in the track weight station it was 4600

its pretty hard to make ur truck weight 4000

my motor is lighter my truck is pretty much stock except its lowered but i went by the insurance card it says my truck weight is 4000 i assume they go by the sticker but i dont have a bed cover or any extra weight just what came with the truck pretyy much (except its lowered)

well the card read the weight with out seats with dash ect... know what i mean u can go by what it says u got to weight in a scale then u will c im right

I hate the trucks but my brother have a trans am and we racing in the streets vs trucks and always we win jeje.

and our trans am is white.

you know there's an intercooled turbo kit for a 5.3L truck that can net you about 400+WHP...
