It's a pity that Talk Talk have been unnoticed almost all of the 80's.It's one of many injustices of the pop history.I think they were so innovative and influential.
How did such a negative person end up on this comment board? Obviously u haven't listened to the music, or u would forgive my rhapsody. I hope that you exorcise ur demons young man. Perhaps take up an instrument, or painting, or writing poetry. Maybe u should give drinking with the blokes, darts, boxing, and football a break. Indulge ur gentler angels, for awhile. Then, perhaps, you'll realize what a stupid jerk you've been, and you'll weep, appropriately, with shame.
@TopShelfShots - Hey!!! I Love football, and "I get it". The blokes and boxing bit, I understand, but please leave football out of it (unless you're talking about the very boring football aka soccer. Otherwise an outstanding post!!
@fbooth100 New Gold Dream by Simple Minds is probably one of the best synthesizer albums I have ever heard but yeah, Colour Of Spring is definitely up there...
Just love the Pink Floyd-ish instrumental interlude. Hollis and Talk Talk are timeless. Like others have said here - future generations have a lot of great music to look forward to!
Talk Talk have proven that they are like good wine...with 25 years gone by they are better than ever. This album will live on to see many mesmerized listeners that are not even born yet.
it's well over 20 years since i bought this album on cassette as a 16 year-old - it hasn't aged a day - i still come back to this album time and time again because.........it's feckin ace!

What I hear is Mark Hollis/Talk Talk's "Kind of Blue" or better yet, their "Bitches Brew"... This is their way of tying up the sound that is at its deepest core!! It fuzzes all of the great past sounds of Jazz, Chamber, Soul, R&B, and White Pop..... This is not Miles music, but the steps takin' to make IT is extraordinary!!..... Amen
@theBESTelvis I am sorry they will never come back, Hollis is no longer recording at all. It was a moment in time and it's gone, but at least we have the recordings.
Time makes Talk Talk better. I listened to talk talk between the years of 1986 and 1994. The band had a profound affect on my intellectual thought process and how I wrote and perceived music. By 1996, I had already spent 1000's of hours in the recording studio and had written 100's of songs. It was the color, depth, and counter melodic sequential patterns of Mark Hollis that were so inspiring.
its really odd for me to hear this because i didnt think new there songs but i have heard most of them alredy because i think my mum played them alot when i was small
@33fgfhjjggy6y same thing. i listen to talk talk and recall the melody being heard some time ago although i never used to play them myself. proabbaly parents or older brother played them at the time, me being a kidling then :-)
Mark says a few times"I don,t believe you"and then"I don,t believe IN you"2.25 Those are 2 differant things but can be close together ;-) Just listen to the lyrics ;-)
This song is about religion possibly where both phrases would make sense. "I don't believe you" to the clergy and "I don't believe in you" to the religion itself or god? thoughts?
@Annatiza I always thought it was about a drug addict claiming he'd quit, probably because "I Believe in You" was written after someone Hollis knew died of a heroin overdose. Like, "I don't believe you're going to quit and I don't believe you could if you tried." Yet that seems contradictory to the humanitarian nature Mark always professed. Then again, "I'm trying to keep some self-respect." There's only so much trust you can have after so much failure/falsehood.
I only found out they released this gorgeous song as a single yesterday! Not that you've ever know these things by sodding UK and US and any commercial radio anywhere it seems.
Nevermind Floyd, hag Madonna, Bee Gees, Beatles, Weller, Michael Jackson and all the other overrated and average stuff we're ALL supposed to love are NOTHING!
It's Kim Wilde, OMD, China Crisis, Alphaville, Kate Bush, Bangles, Crowded House, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, A-ha, Stevie Nicks and Talk Talk-they matter!
I read below comments about the "guitar solo", that's actually played on a keyboard synth...Hadn't heard this song for ages, true beauty..thanks for posting!
A wholly unique and uncategorizable sound informed by elements of jazz, classical, and ambient music; their masterful final recordings, while neglected commercially, possess a timelessness rare among music of any genre, and in retrospect they seem the clear starting point for the post-rock movement of the 1990s.
Talk Talk is my FAVORITE group of all time! I LOVE their music! I could listen to their music and probably will listen to it the rest of my life. Geniouses! Their music is amazing. The last album they recorded together was "different" than all their previous work but I'm sure if I gave it a fair chance I would love it, too. But I'm still busy listening to all the songs they recorded in early years. BETTER THAN FLOYD, BABY. Take that to heart. You get lost in the music of Talk Talk!
This came on the radio once, and the DJ said that "Other musicians these days should be beaten with a stick by the record companies to make songs as good as this", lol
Mark Hollis' voice - parfait ! A wondrous match to Bryan Ferry's style. I lived during the 80's but the noise in the United States drown them out. Les artistes britanniques ont une telle capacité de trouver de nouveaux sons.
....Talk Talk rocks baby. I get lost in the music and I love every song they ever recorded. I would love it if they would comd out with a freakin' new c.d. I would be the first in line the morning the store opened. Have you heard It's a Shame, Renee, Tomorrow Started...? Some days this is all I ever listen to!
This album is just perfect. You can listen it a million times and you can find new accords after 23 years. Thanks a lot for make possible to new generations listen so fabulous music.
Agree with James, the guitar solo is superb, gave me goose bumps 23 years ago and still does today. Can almost feel him playing it. Talk Talk are definitely up there with the greatest! Fantastic music - and lyrics
I've always really enjoyed this song... It has taken on a whole new meaning in my life recently that only makes it that much better!!!! MAGIC!!!!!!! Absolutely heart breaking!!!
prove me wrong but this is one the most beautiful songs ever written... this is called emotion, suspension, sensitivity, rich sound... Touching the core means you've touched the message...
You're wrong...Talk Talk also made a song called "I Believe in You", which is the most beautiful song ever written. I urge you to listen to it if you haven't already.
They were huge in the 80's.. Radio/TV... You couldn't miss them if you followed music then.. I live in Canada..So yes the States usually have there head up their asses on alot of things. But you already knew that. Yes? lol.
The album this comes from sounds as fresh today as it did when I first bought it in 1986. This band are so under-rated.I think it will sound ground breaking in another 30 years time.I was not keen on some of the more "poppy" songs they brought out. This is sublime!
werry good song !!!! thanks

prove me wrong but this is one the most beautiful songs ever written... this is called emotion, suspension, sensitivity, rich sound... Touching the core means you've touched the message...

You're wrong...Talk Talk also made a song called "I Believe in You", which is the most beautiful song ever written. I urge you to listen to it if you haven't already.

Warm and rich sounds, yummy! I love this band and my ex-wife wife hated them. Notice the word EX!

Maybe it irritated her the fact she didn´t know about the band from anyone but you... Or maybe that you heard them a lot... Or both things...

They were huge in the 80's.. Radio/TV... You couldn't miss them if you followed music then.. I live in Canada..So yes the States usually have there head up their asses on alot of things. But you already knew that. Yes? lol.

Reading all the comments here it looks like this song is well known in the Uk, but not too much in the States. What a shame!!!!!

The album this comes from sounds as fresh today as it did when I first bought it in 1986. This band are so under-rated.I think it will sound ground breaking in another 30 years time.I was not keen on some of the more "poppy" songs they brought out. This is sublime!
