In speaking to a friend of mine from Dublin, Ireland, and mentioning Baltimore, the first thing he asked about was, "The Wire". Things like the Baltimore Grand Prix will help to change peoples' perception of this city. It was a great weekend, and a great event. Congratulations to all those who helped to bring the Grand Prix to Baltimore. It was a success.
You guys need to give Mayor Blake a break. She is doing the best she can with what she has. I'm sure it would be easy to do all those things with more federal funding, but Baltimore's funding is limited. This Indy race was a great event for Baltimore City and will bring millions of dollars in to the city. I thought we wanted to bring national attention to Baltimore's inner harbor? wow. instead of creating grid lock downtown how about you lower property taxes by 50% and come up with an effective crime fighting strategy? Good to see that SRB is more focused on getting re-elected than the problems of the city!
Some people are so pessimistic. Nearly everyone from my high school with a decent GPA went to college and never came back. To improve your town you must #1 Get people interested in Baltimore #2 Get tax money #3 Re-do that mass transit system.
This event was awesome and brought six figures worth of big spenders into the city. Businesses did very well, I came down and saw it for myself. Opportunity fights crime! City revenue is spent creating opportunity. Like any city with events lacks traffic.
