This movie was fantastic. Really enjoyed it and I recommend anyone who is interested in these events go and see it. Everyone was great in it as well :)

It might be.. I just hope they don't try to portray Mary Surratt ( Robin Wright) as innocent and a victim- she was absolutely completely guilty- check out " A True History of the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the Conspiracy of 1865" Lewis Weichmann or "The Assassin's Accomplice" Kate Clifford Larson. She began the book & research on the assumption she was possibly innocent until the facts she uncovered convinced her of Mrs. Surratt's undeniable guilt - hope Redford is factual here..

The Movie did seem like it was from a Liberal point of view anyway, portraying the Government as unconstitutional... probably was... but she could have been Guilty. Besides that, the Movie seems Historically accurate... Secretary of State Seward had his brace on as a result of the Accident, thus the reason why he survived... the attempted kidnapping of Lincoln was there, so I'm happy...

There were several kidnap attemps, booth even contemlated assasination at the second inaguarl on his on accord but waited to his network of henchman and MAry Surrat. Do suggest her son was at the heart of the conspiracy manipulating it is false. Justice was served

It 's an insult to suggest that her sole motive was to protect her son, and that she is somehow unfairly accused, and persecuted as the film suggests when history points that she was key in the conspiracy. @USExceptionalism Have you seen the movie? I just can't imagine how anyone would take that from watching it. Either way, the movie is pretty accurate in terms of what is known to have happened in real life. It's a fact she was treated unlawfully. She was prosecuted and her fate was in the hands of close friends of Lincoln. Even when her punishment was ordered stop by another judge, the governor vetoed it and ordered it to continue. We now know her trial was hurried and people were paid to lie

@839351 Yes waht is know or SPECULATED. Unlawful treatment? That is still a matter of debate. Staunton, and Seward close freinds of Lincoln? WHo and by whom in actuality was paid to lie, ? (factually not in this piece of fiction).You are reading too much into the film as actual history. All the conspirators were tried at the same time. How was Surrat's hurried? Poor little treasonist.

I guess Booth really did escape to India, and the double was killed in the barn

I can't wait to see this movie! Except I expect that I may be disappointed in the "spin". Since the subplot deals with the issue of WHERE is John Surratt, it should be noted that he was assisted in escaping after Lincoln was murdered by the Jesuits and Vatican who actually engineered the assassination. Look at the Wiki page for John Surratt to see him dressed as a pope's dope. Judah Benjamin (Rothschild bankster) gave Surratt gold and help too, but just like 6 other US Presidents, it was Rome!

@7SonsofFeanor Yes John Surratt WAS arrested in Egypt after being photographed hiding in the Vatican and identified there as a papal attendant. (Google or Wiki John Surratt to see the photos Johnny as good Catholic boy) Somehow, instead of being handed over by Vatican officials he (was allowed to) escaped and later caught in Alexandria. Though a Union Sgt. Dye IDENTIFIED him as standing outside the theater as timekeeper of the assassination. Surratt's Jesuit friends helped him flee to Rome.

Mr. Redford, we have a screen play for you! It is a family movie, about a salty sea captain that has to suffer the indignity of manning a cruise ship in order to fulfill his long overdue Icelandic mission that turns out to BE his path to enlightenment.

We are that type, on whom, nothing is lost.

As usual James acts with only eyes, and he is amazing. Robin Wright also looks great.I am waiting for the movie.
