How about Scarpia in "Tosca" singing IN THE CHURCH NEXT TO THE CHOIR BOYS how he plans to kill Mario, Rape Tosca until she screams and then drop her for a new babe? This evil enough for ye?

Too light! I LOVE Terfel's artistry, but I want real meat here! Give me Ettore or Sherril... The role is one of the true litmus tests of the literature (act II especially).
@pudercukurs Because he wouldn't survive the performances. Jago is a very, very heavy sing and not really his repertoire, even though he sings this aria quite well.
Yes I can actually hear the pitches he intends, because his vibrato is not a whole-step wide! What a great day for music!

When did he sing this? It's wonderful! I too wish he would play Iago in the opera.

@witness124 he does not say heaven is a lie. He calls it "an old wive's tale," which is so much more sinister and condescending. >]

He is so overrated. At 1:34, 1:46, 2:03 and 4:42 he's so nasally. The way he opens his mouth on only one side is ridiculous.

Great performance! Why he is not singing this role in opera??? This is one of the best I ever heard... And his dramatic acting abilities... why???

@witness124 @witness124 Try Hagen's call to arms... "Hoi-ho" from Götterdämmerung. There's no badass in opera worse than Hagen:

For all of you who think this is good stuff, it must be the first time you've heard the piece. He is all wrong for Verdi.
