  • This performance is timeless. What a great voice!!

  • bliss pure bliss

  • This man is a role model for me. Like Harry Secombe I like to entertain people with comedy acts and singing great songs. The best Goon, a wonderful presenter on Highway and he was brilliant as Mr. Bumble in Oliver!, he should have done more acting.

  • He was in Oliver!

  • love it

  • I love this as my husband's welsh accent is so rich - like this. And he sings too - of course! Sighhhhhh.

  • My God, but Harry made me so damn proud to be Welsh!

  • What about Cyril Ornadel? He's the real talent behind this song. Plus he's my Great Uncle

  • My fathers favourite tenor, it brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear him. I miss him and Harry, all those saturday afternoons sitting in the front room back in Aus. |Thank you for posting it.

  • On the first day of September, every year without fail, I hear this wonderful rendition by Harry Seacombe in my head. I whistle it for days!

For a man renowned for his amazing comedy, he sure can sing!

  • I didn't know about this gentleman until I was on you tube for another search. What a great voice and tremendous talent! I listen to him all the time now.

  • I always wondered where "if i rule the world" came from. Harry Secombe made a guest appearence in one of tommy coopers sketches once, and the dialouge went like this

    Tommy: It wasnt was it?

Harry: IF I RULED THE WORLD

    Tommy: .......nah, it wasnt

    Harry: * blows rhaspberry*

    Tommy: yes it was

  • Though I LOVE Harry's version of this song....imo the best song he ever sang was This is my Song I cannot hear him sing without tears welling up in my eyes....It holds such great sentiment for me.....

  • my late grandads favorite song, god i miss him..

If i can be half the man he was, i will be happy

  • SIR HARRY,

if you were still here with us,and you did rule the world, what a better place it would be.rip SIR HARRY.

  • If I ruled the world everyday would be summer LOL. Freedom for all...Yayyyyyy

  • Sadly the generation that appreciate true singing perfection and quality are slowly diminishing, but Harry,s timeless tones will live on forever

  • Nice voice ... but the question is, Has God ever made a Welshman that cannot sing well ??

  • good point. dont think there has has ever been a bad singer from the valley's and im a scotsman from the glens

  • Yes, God made a Welshman who can't sing... me!

  • @teebee1984 ....try dinking more booze....that way at least ew'll sound good to yourself ! ....works every time for me ! LOL

  • Nice to hear the original attack on this. I love Bennett's and Jones' slow versions, but the original rhythm version is wonderful, too.

  • Yeah I'm with you on that one mate. My favorite song of all time.

  • Boy, this takes me back!

"Two-Way Family Favourites" on the radio, roast beef and potatoes on the table, and Harry Secombe's glorious voice filling the room.

    Thanks!

  • @NBdweller ... the smell of Mam's Sunday dinner cooking..... and waiting for the Clithero Kid or the Navy Lark

  • I love the upbeat orchestration of this song.

Now I wonder if former bandleader Jack Hylton might have been involved in this production - about this time he controlled 15 West End theatres and is said to have employed over 800 people at once back then.

Thanks for the upload - it's now on my 1963 playlist. I'm creating playlists for each of the past 100 years so visitors to my channel can travel back in time to any year and hear an hour's worth of music. 1952-1972 are done so far.

  • "If I Ruled the World" is a popular song, composed by Leslie Bricusse and Cyril Ornadel, which was originally from the 1963 West End musical Pickwick (based on Charles Dickens' The Pickwick Papers). In the context of the stage musical, the song is sung by Samuel Pickwick, when he is mistaken for an election candidate and called on by the crowd to give his manifesto.
