  • I hated the music in this game ... I'd leave when ever my brother played it when I was a kid. and of course when I'm looking it up 15 years later .... Im sitting around with the lights off

  • I never finished this game because it scared me to much lol

  • ahahaa Mrs.Grunkles. Good times

  • I remember playing this when I was in 3rd grade... my grandma always bought these a year in advance (So I had Kindergarten through 5th grade). I truly miss this game. Thank you for posting this video. **Watches with nostalgia**

  • This game scared me a lot back then. I refused to walk around the island to get to my destination because of the ghost! I always used the map to jump to place instead.

  • I so want this game again! I have a one year old and when he's a little older he'll love it as much as I do! I bought 3rd grade and he watched me play it.

  • Does want to have again...... TwT

  • do know if this game ever came with other games? specifically a pack of four?

  • @delta1644 Nope. So far as I know, this version of the game only came in single form. It's now been replaced with the 2000 version, which isn't as scary. Of course, I never played this original version, but it seems more interesting to me than it's newer counterpart. Makes me want to find it and try it out. XD

  • Damn why did I watch this at midnight before bed?

  • I can remember three things about this game that absolutely terrified me. 1. The little animals in the trees from the past games that looked dead. 2. Repsac. 3. The scary music that plays when you press "up" on the empty caravan. I love this game, but ugh, the nightmares.

  • When i first played this game, I couldn't think straight every time i got into a timed-puzzle, I would panic and fear the worst before i can think. Just like in a real scary situation.

  • THANK YOU for posting this! I LOVED this game as a kid! I'm now looking for the 96 version to purchase. It's sad to hear they made a 'kid friendly' version...that's just silly. What was your favorite part? I loved the potion mixing.

  • I bet Pinkie Pie can't giggle at these ghosties

  • i used to be scared as fuck of this game. like i always called someone to stay with me when i played this game

  • @illtakeyourbutt Yea I know what you mean. I could only play with my dad. Walking around the island freaked me out with the creepy music and graphics, as well as Ms. Grunkle and Repsac popping out.

  • I loved this game when I was a kid. This is so nostalgic, you don't know how badly I want to play this now.

  • @paigemusic09 Me too. I used to play it with my dad. This and 3rd grade were my favorites. I wish I still had this.

  • Okay, the computer game company or whoever makes these games NEED to bring this game back! I was obsessed and I cherished this game when I was a kid, even when I was no longer in 4th grade I still played this game! Spelling with spiders, math in a vampire maze, grammar in the cemetery, history with mummy tombs, geography with pirates, playing an organ in the bell tower, oh the memories!

  • MISS THIS!! I still can't figure out the bat's accent...or his hint of an accent LOL

  • @barbaro267 It sounds like he's imitating Peter Lorre.

  • The pirate map game on this was the shit!!

  • Man, I LOVED this game as a kid. I only ever completed it once, but I remember trying and trying over and over again to finish it. I also remember that Flap mentioned that Ms. Grunkle could show up at any second, and I wandered the game in constant terror that she'd show up. And I flipped out every time she did.

  • You know what happens when you press the "up" key in front of the empty circus wagon? I don't know if it was the music or the allusion, but that scared the frickin' daylights out of me. I first found it late at night, and I remember being scared to go to sleep.

  • This game used to scare the crap out of me.

  • I wasn't allowed in the room when my older siblings played this because Ms. Grunkel freaked me out bad enough I couldn't sleep for days with just one glance at her. The games didn't bother me, it was walking around the island that was massively freaky. In fact, I had to stay out of the room UNTIL they got to the games (esp. Well and Maze) because I knew all the math answers almost instantaneously. That and the Geography. But I finally got the courage to play through and beat it a few years ago.

  • @klayclay Still freaky like no tomorrow though. Not sure I would ever try to play through it again XD

  • I knew this game was scary. I knew it couldn't have just been me.

  • OMG!! i used to absolutely love this game. HA!

  • imagine if we were playing it inside of the game. oh my! nervous breakdown. lmao!

  • i'm sixteen and still this game scares the shit out of me. especially when repsac and ms. grunkle appears. holy crap! btw, i'm a girl.

  • @mcrmybea Oh wow. Repsac is Casper spelled backward. Jeez, I could get correct answers on the games themselves as a kid, but I couldn't get a simple ghost pun?

  • this game scared the shit out of me

  • does anyone know where i can find playable versions of these games from the 90s?

  • NOSTAAAAAAAAALGIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Flap looks like Figmit from Epcot at Disneyworld

  • The kid Calvin, who got turned into the evil clown, scared the crap out of me. I always skipped his page in the yearbook.

  • Goddamn I loved this game back in the day

  • Man i miss playing this game but it used to scare the hell out me

  • Jesus Christ, I'm 19 years old and I volunteer as a fire fighter some times. And this games scares the fuck out of me.

  • @emanthedragonchamp

The way Flap fly's creep's me out.

  • @emanthedragonchamp Wow dude, ur not the only one lol

  • For my homework, I had to play this game. I'm 17 but I'm still scared of this game

  • Still have this game, almost made it to the ennnnnd!!! Don't know where it is these days, haven't finished it :-( And yes, this game was quite haunting. I remember I would play it at night sometimes, and would find it hard to sleep. Also, I remember when a ghost would pop up once in awhile when I would walk through the forest when I advanced levels. So scary since the ghost was so random!

  • @jokinglyserious1 Oh god, that random ghost was the only thing in this game that scared the crap out of me! I think he also appeared in the maze near the end of the game, you know how there was a picture of the ghost on the maze wall and if you got to close to the picture the ghost would appear, god how I hated that ghost!

  • That game still scares me and when my brother first so the intro he got creeped out as well and hes 18 man I dont know why they thought this should be for kids.

  • Scared when I was younger. My elementary school class played it all the way through. Every lunch, we'd all work together to solve the puzzles. Because of this, we were able to finish the game~

  • I'm in my 20s and I still don't think I could finish this game. Freaked me out and gave me nightmares as a kid...

  • I'm always scared when the candle goes out

  • I always liked the bat

  • Cool as HELL!!!!

  • I remember how scared I used to be of this game.. My older sister got it from school and never played it. This one time, my little brother and I were playing this and we were walking through grass and something popped out on the screen, so my little brother and I screamed and ran out of the room hiding against the wall. Our babysitter was like, "..lolwut?"

  • Psh my classmates were assholes. As soon as I heard the words "haunted islands" and that creepy "BEWARE!" I would've took my arse home.

  • This game STILL scares the crap out of me, and I'm going into my junior year. It's like...elementary school survival horror.

  • @jesterisawesome Honestly? I think games such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, Amnesia the Dark Descent have NOTHING on this game. I dunno if its the nostalgia or the claymation style (which I'm scared of thanks to the Nightmare before Christmas and Wallace and Gromit), but this game still scares the crap out of me too.

  • wayyy too scary to be for fourth graders. the only thing I learned was that substitute teachers would turn me into monsters.

  • I remember going over to a friend's house and seeing this game...it scared me so much! Maybe that's why I remember it so well now.

  • I wish I owned this game instead of playing it in the library...then I could play it now.

  • I had nightmares from this game.

  • this was my favorite grade, i wish i still had it for shits and giggles

  • I think this game is why I'm so disturbed mentally mwahahahaha

  • Best game ever. Used to creep the fuck out of me.

  • 4th grade is my favorite game.

    ...it still scares me a little. ^.^;;

  • I used to love this game. Everything just takes me back to the good ole days. :)

  • I like how jumpstart decided that only at 4th grade would it be appropriate to use shortcuts like ctrl+L

I never got this version :c

  • Sadly, I never made it to this game; my parents never bought this one...

    REVERSE NOSTALGIA TIME!!! 83

  • The Bat sounds like Jerry Nelson too.

  • This Game Still scares the shit out of me

  • Yeah this game use to scare me so bad, i remember it being so hard(cause i was in 2nd grade at the time) and the farthest i got was like 2 key lol

  • I loved this game! Halloween-esque, I was a weird kid. xD

  • Ya know, for kids!

  • This game creeped the crap out of me at first, after a while (Implying a few months.) I got used to it, though any meeting with Grunkel still scared the crap out of me.

  • You know what, I never finished this game. O_O I think it was because it literally scared the FUCK out of me.

  • I went to a private Christian elementary school and we weren't allowed to play this game in computer class because it had witches in it. I always wanted to see what it about thought. So, in the spirit of just graduating high school I looked this up!

  • @browneyedgirl876 whaddya think?

  • @sparkreno19 I can certainly see why it was banned at my school. Probably would of scarred the tar out of me as a kid.

  • omg that was some metal BEEEEEEWWWWAAAAAAARE

  • so THIS was the root of all my fears....

    scariest game ever? yes :|

  • This game used to scare the little crap out of me! It still gives me the creeps.

  • i remember being a real good at the treasure hunter part...like i would guess the right location before the clue even comes on the screen...whats disheartening was i almost beat the game with all the kids watching but its the end of the school year

  • there was a part of this game that i suspect was a cameo from a previous Jump Start game where it showed a run-down neighborhood while playing creepy music. I would listen to the music and look at all the creepy things on the screen for about 30 mins at a time.

  • loved loved loved this game! thanks for uploading this and taking me down memory lane :D

  • NOSTALGIA.

  • THIS WAS THE BEST JUMP START EVER!

  • download links any1??

  • Man, this and JumpStart 3rd Grade were some of my favorite games when I was little. Anyone have any ideas on where I can find something like an emulator to play them again now?

  • If only I had this game as a kid... I was odd and loved creepy stuff (still do)... I would have LOVED playing this.

  • I am FREAKING OUT. Dude, this game, I swear....

  • just a walk down memmory lane for me, and i bet lots of people agree with me :]

  • I loved this game so much

  • where can i download this game?

  • would this game work on windows vista?

  • @hatohime Yes. I managed to get it running on my laptop.

  • @hatohime yes it works on vista.

  • I remember this game. Creeped me out when I was a little kid; I never did finish this.

  • Oh, the nostalgia. The music. Heh.

I remember this game was one of the first I really wanted to finish, but at the same time this game was longer than pretty much all the other Jumpstart games (except maybe the fifth one). When I was a kid I never finished it, but I still loved it.

  • holy crap I remember this. it made me poop my pants :P good times

  • the witch in this reminds me EXACTLY like my 4th grade teacher.

  • @ThunderEagle115 In what way?

  • @declanappleseed in what way? basically wicked and was very power hungry

  • Madame Pomreeda is incredibly freaky....and she's supposed to be one of the good guys!

  • My candle always died.

  • I loved this game! It was the best!!!

  • 3:26 little monsters? is ms gronkel lady gaga?

  • This game used to scare me so bad!!

  • loved this games but like most other people it scared the shit out and i would really like it if someone did a full walkthrough of this

  • @southparkfan1999 Someone did. There's a link to it on the tvtropes.com page about this game.

  • OMFG!!!! I F***ING LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID!!!! Ugh how i miss those memories!!!

  • lmao I can't believe I found this!!! I used to play this all the time as a kid and I remember it scaring the shit out of me, but I couldn't stop playing it! I liked the 3rd grade one better I remember, and I wanted to wait till I was a 4th grader to play it...but I did in 2nd grade and sucked lol. I'm 17 now and this brings back memories...

  • man i remember this game was hella scary. i never even finished it XD

  • Oh my gosh!! This game was SO SCARY I loved it!! Does anyone know how I could possibly find this game and play it on Windows 7? I'd love to revisit it!

  • FUCK THIS GAME. Scary as shit

  • 5000 pts x 25 keys = 125000 pts required for completion

  • This is The Basic reason that i am not a fan of Substitute teachers.

  • 4:00 - 4:05

  • I never got past ten minutes of this game. Too scary for kids.

  • I FINALLY FOUND THIS GAME! I played it back in the 4th grade (2001) and all I could remember about it was keys and mixing stuff and playing a piano. I also remember my score dominated everyone else in my class but I never got to play enough to actually finish the game. I've got to buy this thing just to finish it.

  • Maria,I'm Andrea (Ann-dree-uh). Does the game scare U?

  • This game used to give me the jibblies! Now I can't complete it cause it freezes up on my XP.

  • this game scaed the fuck out of me i wouldnt play the ship game because mrs gunkle always came and i would run in my room when i clicked it

  • Pssssht, they're fourth graders! They can handle this!

    ...Or maybe not.

  • Boy, they really pushed the envelope on how scary an educational game can be.

An acievement in my books, for sure.

  • I played all the Jump start games

as a kid except this one. Scared the

shit out of me. I hid it so I didn't have to

    play it. x ___ x

  • I always looked forward to this intro for whatever reason. I just loved it so much.

  • sickkest game

  • This game freaked me out when I was a kid.

  • @airbendingavatar1 yeah i was scared shitless playing it

  • I loved this game when i was younger. I'm starting college but i'm gonna start playing this game again to finally beat it!!!

  • Oh this reminds me of how scary this game used to be when I was small, even the fortune teller's scary as hell back in the days haha

  • Holy frick this is scary

  • i could never pass that fucking organ level

  • I was sooooo scared, but I regret not playing it!

  • Wouldn't the monsters look awsome in Scooby Doo?

  • I can't believe they replaced this version with a new, less-scary one. I played this in 2nd grade and to date it was one of the most memorable games of my childhood. It was scary, but that's what made it so fun!

  • I hate every level of this game, its so scary even though i used to just watch my bro play it i still get scared

  • The land is like Scooby Doo on Zombie Island.

  • tim burton?

  • Most depressing game ever. Used to scare the shit out of me, like when that witch or ghost would randomly show up and scare the shit out of you.

  • @Xerxes845 Hell yea, i was in 2nd grade when i played this, oh man was it scary!

  • @Xerxes845 Yea Respac scared me half to death. Whenever he'd show up, I'd jump right out my seat 10 feet in the air.

  • its takes a long time to finish this game u hav to get 25 keys n also turn each child bak into kids

  • I remember when my parents got this for me, I was too scared of it to play it.

  • I played various educational games as a kid and this one was my favorite

  • That Brain creature gave me the creeps xD

  • this game used to scare the crap out of me

  • @almostkungfumaster Me,too! My dad ALWAYS asked if I was scared of Ms. Grunkle. I was like "No".

  • @almostkungfumaster I thought I was the only one.

  • @almostkungfumaster That's why it was recalled in 2000.

  • @TobuscusFan i had no idea..but now i can see why

  • I played this game at 4th grade and got freaked out-kinda funny now that I like horror-anything. Even now, older, looking at this game at night makes me slightly uneasy-more for the memories.

Still I loved this game, and would gladly play it again any day.

  • I LOVED this game, but I could not play it for the life of me. If, by some chance, I was brave enough to attempt it, I would request that my mother be sitting right next to me, and even then I was too scared. It has fantastic art and enchanting music, though. Maybe it's because my sister was in 4th grade and I was only in 2nd, but you get the picture. Oh, what I would do to play this game again.

  • I've finished every jump start game except for this one. It was just too terrifying for me ):

  • no game this scary should be shown to kids in the 4th grade.

  • has anyone actually had their "candle burn out?" I don't remember doing it, but hey I'm glad because the labyrinth scared me as a child with its confusing patterns and that freaky ghost popping out.

  • @coolperson1145 oh gosh. I HATED that ghost. Any time he popped up, I'd exit the game. D:

  • @xjackie93 the only way to beat the game is to stump him several times

  • i always remember my friends and i use to freak out whenever we saw the fortune teller. Eyes were huge and scary, but we can laugh at it now hahahaha

  • Oh, wow. This brings back MEMORIES. I remember playing it in the 1st grade. Naturally, I sucked at most of the activities, but I LOVED wandering around the island and scaring myself witless. FUN TIMES. I think I even have the CD lying around somewhere.

  • Dude. I remember when you have to stop moving and you would shit your self immediately

  • I find this way scarier than resident evil 1

  • this game scared the living crap out of me when i was 8! and yet i continued to play it...every...day.

    until i broke the CD.

i also LOVED the old school Reader Rabbit cd program and Math Busters.

    suffering from serious 90s withdrawal

  • I used to play this game... in high school! I was mainstreaming there.

  • i nostalgia'd hard

  • CAN SOME ONE PLZ DO A PLAYTHROUGH ON THIS GAME MY COMP CANT RUN ITS OLDNESSS

  • Apparently this game was banned due to the complaints coming from Christian parents saying that this game was "satanic". Too bad, I loved this game.

  • @ashtonmadhatter My Christian parents bought it for me and loved it. I haven't seen this game in years! It was a really fun game, and I really did learn thanks to it!

  • @LasPlagas54 I have Christian parents too, but I'm talking about the "crazy" Christain parents. Biblical literalists basically or very orthodox christians.

  • @ashtonmadhatter seriously? I grew up christian and they let me play this game as a 4 year-old

  • i used to have nightmares about the fortune teller lady and her creepy eyes when i was little i was to scared to play

  • @Selanaxfanx OMG ME TOO

  • @Selanaxfanx same here, but now i DO wanna play it!
