Actually, it is not strange . Here in the Philippines its not strange .that is called , a touch me not plant its doin that ,odd, behavior for self defense.

This is called the Sensitive Plant. The fronds close under any pressure as a defense mechanism. If a horse or some other animal tries to eat it, the animals breath caused the fronds to close for a few hours so the animal can't see the food source anymore.
