How "punk" is it to be playing a different high-end gibson or fender through a different $3K amp every time you see her? I saved up for a little tube amp for recording. I Spent a few bucks upgrading the pickups on my squiers and epiphones. I DO want to sound good, but even if I had the cash to get all that fancy gear, I'd just buy a couple cool guitars, an old JCM800 or a Plexi. Some good mics. Better drums. The rest would go to helping my friends, and helping ANYONE in need. Am I alone here?

@renantheking I prefer an 800 to all the 900, 2000, 9000 etc. Did you know that the 900 has a solid state font end? Clipping diodes and transistors, like having a 50 dollar overdrive pedal in front of your amp. Like I said, I'd take a real nice guitar if I had the cash, but I wouldn't even want a $1/4-million collection.I can make my squier standard tele sound better than a US custom-shop tele with 100 bucks in parts and a couple hours of work, and I like variety. A '59 LP can't give me that.

It was less expensive, so I had to set it up myself, and the stock pickups and hardware had to be replaced, but I don't play Les Pauls. I don't like the short scale, and I don't like their sound. I'd rather build my own mahogany guitar with a MAPLE neck, and single coils. The tone of agathis (like my squier) is beautiful. I also desire variety, and I can't afford it if I only buy expensive guitars.
