For some reason i cant get this to work. Do i need to format my HD in fat32 or what? do i need to have that wire that your using to connect to my pc? my mind is full of fuck right now...
Okay, this should be a simple question, but I have no clue. Anyways, I want to run the vflash packages, but I have no idea how to. I'm not sure how to place it in my usb according to the PS3's folder structure so that my PS3 recognizes it.
hello, I am embarrassed to step 9 after vflash resize, how application is run for the restart ps3 and formatting hdd 1 delete_vflash6 2 delete_vflash5 3 create_vflash5 4 create_vflash6 5 restart your ps3 6 delete_vflash7 7 create_vflash7 8 resize vflash 9 how? restart the ps3 install_otheros boot_otheros reboot
I can't get petitboot to install...both delete flash7 and create flash 7 don't beep so I think they're failing. when i resize and then reboot it asks to format but then says disk is not accessible. I have no idea what to do...using a phat 40gb
@DevPs3Addict That happens every once in awhile... we're unsure why it does that, manually deleting the partition tables with fdisk /dev/ps3vflashh and pressing d, 1, d, 2, d, 3, w, usually fixes it.. just restart after that. if it doesn't work, just edit everything that has 3, and replace with 5
I did all of this.. correctly I suppose, then tried installing YDL 6.2 since it comes with the cell sdk 3.1 which was taken off the IBM site. apparently it succeeded installing. Now however it refuses to boot for an unknown reason
@newgamernik It's because the linux on YDL 6.2 doesn't have the drivers neccisary to boot off of vflash, you need to compile grafs kernel and put it into the /boot/ folder... also it should install it into ps3vflashh3 not ps3da1...
@Gitbrew Well when I did that it scrolled a bunch of characters on the screen for about 2 minutes and than froze. It was almost like I opened up the .bin file in notepad. (You know where all those characters come up meaning notepad can't decipher any readable human text?) It was really weird. I thought I broke my PS3 lol. I tried the command again and it did the same thing. My PS3 is a CECHK01.
@Gitbrew No problem, I got debian installed on my PS3 finally. It's probably gonna be a few days before I send you that report on what games do and don't work with OtherOS++.
BTW is it possible to compile and install gentoo on the PS3 while you are inside debian? If not what is the best way to do that if you don't mind me asking?
Make sure you run UDP_Printf to log all the debug messages incase something didn't go correctly! That way you can log the messages on your computer. You might also want to create a batch file to output the logs to a file to double check everything.
@TheChawan Ok, just checked, 205GB / 232GB on my harddrive and ps3vflashh is not there so I guess that vflash7 is failing completly for me. I didn't do a full reformat using my computer like you did before starting though, instead I used the format in the systems settings menu. Not sure if that might have something to with it or if it's failing for some other reason.
I also have some problems with the vflash7. No watter which on I run Create/delete or the resize I don't get the beeps indicating it succeeded and I don't get the format harddrive request either. So I guess somethings messed up so I just wanted to ask if you got any suggestion to what might be going wrong with it.
@TheChawan do you have an older ps3 phat? nand consoles are supported _just_ yet, if you have one of the ps3s with 16MB nand and vflash then we can try to help in the irc! unsure what could be going wrong though :(
@Gitbrew Got a 250GB slim PS3 and what I know that should have the 16MB nand and vflash right? It's only on the vflash7 I get stuck, 5 and 6 gives me the beeps correctly. Oh, the vflash7 knocks me out to the screen telling me to reinstall the firmware like the others do but I don't get the beeps you are supposed to get.
@TheChawan hmm model number? also sometimes that happens, we're not "entirely" sure why. just continue the process and when you get to petitboot, if ps3vflashh is there then it should be fine / under system settings check the system info (it will tell you how much hard drive space you have left) 40GB should be taken off the left side :)
@leon938 On that model of ps3 , you doesn't need to delete , create and resize the vflash 7 because CECHL01 do not have them... it got only the 6 and 5
@God601 Thank you for the explanation, I can come into petitboot but I'm still missing ps3vflashh3. Does this mean I can't flash Graf's latest kernel?
cheers for the video, can we get clearer instructions, around 10mins you mention we need to delete vflash 7, there is no mention of this on the gitbrew page instructions, also you have create vflash7 done here before you vflash resize, its says to do it the other way round on the webpage steps 6,7,8 ?
@bobbaay yea sorry about that, while recording the video it actually messed up, if you run delete, the continue on as the video states and you should be fine :) worst comes to worse just delete vflash7, create vflash7 and then resize it and you might need to restart after each part (maybe it worked 1-3 without a restart and only needed to after the resize)
dude if I dwongrade my PS3 from 4.10 to 3.55 can i still enjoy the Move game along with Linux???????

You mean /boot/ in the petiboot?

xPreatorianx 10 months ago
@xPreatorianx post them, but the main thing is that it finds something :P most people perfer ls -la /dev/ps3vflash* so it searches for them though.

Model number CECH-2003B. I'm gonna plug my PS3 back in now and I'll check if ps3vflashh is there and if there is any space taken on my harddrive.

@God601 Thank you ;) will try this weekend
leon938 10 months ago
@leon938 The method of petitboot will work in one condition on the CECHL01.
Do not copy the linux on the Flash 6 and the normal partition of the PS3 or you will need to reformat your HDD and reinstall everything.
Only vFlash 5 will work on this... be sure you select ext3 and not the ext4.
