These "kids" are not hman beings but the product of the rage of their maker, the father of Candy (the abducted girl)'s ex wife. This explain why they have more strenght than normal children, and why they look scary as shit. In the middle of the movie an autopsy is made on the corpse of one of those little freaks and it is discovered that they have no reproductive organs
I remember watching this on my psp and thinking how horrifying this scene was how the troll like killers just walk into the school kidnap the guys daughter and kill the teacher David cronenberg is a genius at horror.
Honestly, I do appreciate Cronenberg and his marvelous works, but unless those kids had demon like strength, or that lady had the same disease as Sam Jackson in Unbreakable, this may have to be one of the stupidest death sequences I've seen. Was scary, until they "attacked" her and she awkwardly let them do it.
Psychoplasmis' effects... how terrifying! I agreed that Cronenberg shouldn't use children as killers. Still, The Brood is one of the two most scary films of 1979... the other one was Alien.
Not as scary as I thought but disturbing. i've never seen the film, so anyone knows why did this happen, I mean those kids are possessed or something?
Absolutely amazing. Funny, another poster commented on the building and is right. The buildup is excellent. I think in the eighties they took their time and the payoff was great. All you new horror directors, give us back some of this magic please.
This is actually the cut R rated version of this scene. There is an unrated cut that shows a much longer, and profoundly more disturbing, shot of the dead teacher's face being cradled in the man's hands before he covers it.
The thing that was most disturbing was the fact that a bunch of little kids witnessed this! And the build up... WOW! They dont make 'em like this anymore!
True horror, I mean in the middle of the day, a school filled with kids, the last scenario to think about horror and Cronenberg manages to deliver one of the most thrilling scenes in the movie. I think the house where they kill (SPOILERS) the girl's grandma was scarier, but this movie is truly horror.
Those kids have super human strength. Imagine if Tyson in his prime were hitting you in the head with a toy mallet.

I saw this at the drive in when I was 7 years old. Needless to say it left it's mark on me. I always called them cat kids because of how they sound.

Cronenberg was in a 'dark place' when he made this film - and it shows. Closer to the heart the darker the blood.

The scariest part was where the kid turned around and you see the face.

I find it surprising that they keep potentially lethal mallets around for the kids to play with.
