They're not basses. :) They're Chapman Sticks. The two most common ones are 10 and 12 string models. Half of the instrument has bass strings (strung inverted, tuned in 5ths) and half is the melody (tuned in 4ths), if in classic tuning. It is played by lightly tapping the fretboard, the strings are very low to the fretboard and the tension is low to facilitate easy tapping. The pickups are very sensitive.
