@sweetjynx97 Yep!......& I'd also guess that you probably are the only 14 year old in the entire USA of any previous generation who has ever seen this. I saw this upon it's first broadcast 37 years ago (in 1975) - I must have been about 10 years old. I've only seen glimpses of the newer one's which seem to rely more upon production effects to captivate today's audiences. So good for you for sticking with these older script orientated dramas. I feel the same regarding older movies vs remakes.
@LilacDownDeep Absolutely it's okay for you to like both era's of the productions. The older progs are quintessentially British for UK public & may not have been originally broadcast in those days on US TV. So it was interesting (for me) that a young person of today, oversees could prefer these older programmes with cruder sets, props & FX which is something I feel all along to be true. But let me know in 3 decades time if they still make the prog if you formed a preference for what is provided.
@emenveeuk I don't have a preference. I don't believe in having preferences. If I like it, I like it, if I don't, I don't. I prefer not to let other fans get in the way of what I prefer or don't prefer and what I enjoy is both of them, and I'll continue watching them in the future with interest to see where it's going.
I actually think the robot's pretty cool. I'm probably in the minority on that one but it is creative and it looked like it was fun to put together; plus I think it's more realistic than a cgi one but that's me. I really like the old Dr Who Series: The acting is good the story lines are creative and while some special effects may be considered primitive, a little imagination goes a long way. That is good because it exercises your mind and involves you the audience member.
@elricmb I also like how the incidental background music of the old series was far more varied than the new series way of regurgitating the same old background music. And it didnt intrude like the new series can do
@elricmb agreed! too many people nowadays are mentally lazy. Some have said they can't watch any show or movie in black and white. If that isn't the dumbest mentality ever. Sorry if anyone is offended but I find the newest stories of Dr Who to be childish and even archaic. Some of the plots have been used on The Power Rangers and even the Powerpuff Girls. that is just sad. From inventing the concept to the Matrix to badly copied stories from badly written books. I hope for a miracle.
Having recently seen the Robot costume at the Doctor Who Experience in Olympia, London, I can honestly say it's even more impressive in real life than it was on TV.
I remember when I was a kid how we'd watch this show and just sort of suffer through stuff like the Robot. It was such an enchanting show, but occasionally you'd have to wince through stuff. We sort of understood that it was just the vagaries of television, and not what defined the show.
5:33 Sarah Jane, just because something moves doesn't mean its alive. Just because something looks human doesn't mean it thinks. Computers are not made of magic and mana, just programed actions like a CooCoo clock, a rube Goldberg device, or an elevator door. As a man who is far to familiar with Intelligence software I know how far we need to go; A touring machine with an encyclopedia of information is still just that; a machine. Any argument to the contrary is Toy Story logic
@butchdeadlift10 adding to that rebuff, the human brain is little more than a super computer and yet it is capable of so much, if you build and programme it well enough it can attain a level of semi/complete sentience
@balthier1983 assuming that one will program lower stronger functions as the base. A man is able to be artistic, inquisitive, and logical after Mazlo's hierarchy has been satisfied. Take away food, shelter, and throw man in danger his baser functions of simple emotions and pack-animal sociability kick in. A robot sadly is not designed based on the reality of an animal, but on the abstract constructs man has chosen to define himself as. Robot mind would be built backwards from a natural mind
