@newmexicoflygirl It's a different drummer now, actually. The only original members, as well as the only members in this video, that are still with the band are the lead singer, Kirk, and the bassist, Struby.
Hallie! What's up? My family is great, thank you. I'm glad you stumbled across this too. This video reminds me of some very fun times with many fewer responsibilities.
To everyone else that fondly remembers the old days, thank you!
Yo I just got to fucking chill w/ all of these dudes at the Spyglass Ridge Winery Celtic Fest. I was literally hanging out w/ all of them just chillin. Me and the drummer, near the end, sat and watched this security dude taze this drunk chick. IT WAS EFFING SWEET!!!
I met him in Jacksonville... Met the whole lot of 'em, actually. Nice folks, easy to talk to. Great fun to listen to... Better live than in studio. HIGH energy!
This video was shot at the 2000 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. The best year for their music ever. They had bands from half a dozen different countries that year.
@AshtonEMT And some us are able to recognize the BEST drummer EVER... Just cruising the internet on my lunch. Happenstance that I hit on this video. Must have been for this reason (I always give them..) - just to say hi to you, little brother! I hope your family is well. Fondly, Hallie
In 2000 on The Pictou Sessions & self titled cd of the same year the song was called "God". When it appeared on "and now it's come to this" 2002 it was titled "up to me" . No matter what 7N wants to call the song - it's still once of my favorites!
It's essentially the same song, but it's rearranged a bit. The tempo is increased, the intro with each instrument coming in one at a time is dropped, and there's more distortion with the electric guitar. It's first appears was actually on Old Ground from 1995 when the band was known as Clan na Gael.
I still have my Clan Na Gael t-shirt, the one with the blue celtic cross. Kirk and Struby are some of the nicest guys you could ever meet. I'm more partial to their older sound, when Neil and Nick were in the band, but they are great regardless.
This is a band that is meant to play live. The studio stuff never impressed me much - but I saw them in a little bar in Dubuque and it was one of the best shows I have EVER seen.
I've seen these guys about 25 times...getting ready to go see them again in Mechanicsville Va. They are excellent musicians and are crowd friendly....every show has been a great show!
It was known as "God" in its release on the Old Ground, Road Kill Vol. 2, The Pictou Sessions, Seven Nations (self titled album), and Palace Theatre albums. They did a slight rearrangement, changed the tempo, and added more distortion to it and renamed it Up to Me for the ...And Now It's Come To This album.
@BlankTV I think they may have - i have all of their albums - on some they have it called "god" on others they have it called "up to me". On Old Ground the song was slower and called "God". On another album (honestly i forget the title though) it sounded faster like this version and it was labelled as "Up To Me". I almost think i remember noticing small lyric differences, but would have to look it up to be sure.
@kateichiban this song is called up to me...it is a sped up version of the song God. Up to Me was on their And now it comes to this Album and God was on their self titled album.
Seven Nations bloody rock. just wondering, could anyone tell me if someone's put up their Ye Jacobites By Name? It's my favourite song of theirs, but the only one I knew of on YouTube was taken down.
They have all of their music for sale on their website. They have it in mp3 format, so their out-of-print music is still available. It's only $2.00 for that song, so you should go check it out. They're only 128kpbs, but that should be good enough. Look for it on Old Ground, or if you want the live version, look at Road Kill Vol. 2. If you have any questions about their music or want suggestions, I own all of their CDs. Just drop me a line through YouTube.
I also saw Seven Nations when they performed at East Tennessee State University and became hooked. Everyone is 100% spot on with the live performances - they are really good. I have seen them twice at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games.
saw 'em at east tennessee state university a couple of years ago during celtic fest in jonesborough and was completely blown away. even though they were almost 45 minutes late getting on because of forgetting the bagpipes in knoxville, awesome awesome show y'all.
I saw these guys when they were "Clan Na Gael" at the Stone Mountain Scottish Festival, twice.
Seems that some other group, probably a sewing or knitting group, had already the Clan Na Gael name, so they were forced to become Seven Nations.
Now, really, why couldn't we just let these guys be Clan Na Gael? Why did we have to hassle them? It's a mighty thing when you take a Band's name away.
I remember back when this song first came out, they performed it on an outdoor stage in Jacksonville Beach. What a performance they have and do put on, I recommend going to see them if they come anywhere near you.
It's called "God" in its original arrangement from the "Old Ground," "Seven Nations," and "The Pictou Sessions," albums, however in this arrangement from the "And Now It's Come to This" album, it's titled "Up to Me." Significant differences are the more rock and less traditional style, the lack of the intro, and the faster tempo.
