@XGreyCrowX By constantly comparing musicians to those of the past in a negative light, without respect for the idea of inspiration and then, innovation, you're totally inhibiting the progression of music in general. Morrissey emulated someone in some way as well.
a cold, terrible snowball of self-loathing and melancholy, devouring everything in its path. you don't know anything, so don't ask any questions. just turn the music up and keep your mouth shut.
Great video! I do wish that you kept the outro, though, since I was singing along before it ended so abruptly. The intro, by the way, comes from the Left Banke's "She May Call You Up Tonight."
oh yes this this song is about him, and his sad. He is going home from the party in a "black cab", an illegal cab, the driver is often a foreigner here. He does not care where the cab is taking him and so on. Tjohooo (black cab= svart-taxi)
it's about missing the last tram and taking a black cab(illegal black market taxi) instead :)..and generally just having a bad night out...it's not very subliminal
I love this song -- but I've got to say it's pretty amazing/ballsy that he doesn't credit the Left Banke for sampling the harpsichord hook from "I've Got Something On My Mind" for this tune ...

this song would randomly pop into my head any time of the day and i would be happily humming the tune for at least an hour..

It's cool the way he took the harpsichord line from the Left Banke song "Something On My Mind" and wrote a whole new melody around it.

does black cabs have to do with the black cabs in london, or is it a metephor
stonesku11 3 years ago 2
Good guess but it's actually a word-by-word translation of »svarttaxi» in Swedish, which refers to unlicensed cabs.

Does anyone know how or where Belle & Sebastian's "Mary Jo" is sampled in this song? I can't figure it out for the life of me.
robertmyles 4 years ago
I'm stumped. Unless he just slowed down the chord progression or something. But that's a guess.
thefinewino 4 years ago
The sample is just a tiny tiny bit of the flute intro in "Mary Jo." You can hear five notes right before the chorus at 1:56.
