It's is a legitimate glitch, and it only happens in levels with bullet bills, and floating scale platforms (the tethered platforms that fall when you step on them), You scrolled the screen just enough to trigger the scale, and jump on a bullet bill that happens to be at the same height as the first platform, then the NES confuses bullet bill with the platform, hence the line as they scroll down.

Many people consider this as a glitch. What no one knows is that it is not a glitch. This was actually Bullet Bill's strategy to keep Mario away from the princess while Bowser was getting his hammers to attack him in the castle. Bullet perfectly disguised himself as a platform to trap Mario. Through when Mario got in the castle he beat Bowser even when he was throwing hammers at him like crazy, Bullet Bill's plan worked! IT WORKED!

So, this is really a glitch in this game? I just don't get it. How can something like this ever be pulled off? Were you using a hack? I still like the video and I find this to be a funny glitch, but I really have a hard time believing it's even possible to pull this off.

i found a glitch where if as big mario you touched the axe and bowser at the same time in the caslte stage it  reversed sizes for you. Small mario became big and big became small.
