You don't seem to give Vitali any real chance even in a rematch? I think he definitely had a good chance to win, especially in a rematch, not insulting Lennox. Vitali also was fairly young and inexperienced at the time of the fight, especially compared to now.
if Vitali hadnt have got cut, I think the edge would be to vitali. Because your forgetting one key thing. Both of lennox's eyes were swollen. And if the fight had continued, it would have gotten worse. I like lennox though. Man, it was an awesome fight. I wish we could have gotten to see how it would have ended up
Vitali was handling and beating Byrd with ease. Vitali shouldn't have quit on the stool. He could have beat Byrd with one hand. Vitali's heart was very much in question after that bout. Vitali answered those questions about his heart vs Lewis. I think Lewis and Vitali are both underrated.
I think it was smart that Lewis quit when he did. Vitali was getting better and Lewis was on the downslide. Also Vitali had a much better chin than Lewis.
There is no doubt the Lennox Lewis in under appreciated. The cut on Vitali was under control at the time the fight was stopped and Lennox was dead tired. Either the cut would get worse or Lennox would not be able to keep up with Vitali's high punch output. We know Vitali can throw crazy amounts of punches for all 12 rounds. But we will never know how the fight could have gone. A rematch would've pitted a better prepared Vitali against a better conditioned Lennox. It would have been a great fight
Lennox is one of those guys that got more appreciated in the years after he retired. When he left, there was a huge void in the HW division for years up until the Klitschko's established their dominance.
Lewis-Bowe both at 100% peak physical condition would have been a great fight. Unfortunately we all know what Bowe chose to do with his belt.
Other than that, the only other fight out there to prove something was a rematch with Vitali. It left more questions than it answered.
