  • Wonderful.........Peter sometimes created songs from borrowed Beatles melodies. For instance, Getting Better becomes Trick of the Tail.

  • @leirbagpeter Interesting observation, but I must point out that Peter did not write Trick of the Tail. that particular track was written and composed by Tony Banks.

  • @leirbagpeter Getting Better sounds nothing like Trick of the Tail - besides which, Gabriel wasn't with Genesis when Trick of the Tail came out.

  • A think you guys also need to remember, The majority of the Genesis guys actually graduated from a classical music school, so of course they could write this level of stuff. The Beatles were 100% self taught and never learned how to read music, but they managed to constantly push the boundaries of what was "pop" back then. So what both bands did was just amazing, they were all genius. :)

  • @LadyOneko Charterhouse was not a "classical music school". It's a regular British Public School (private school in North American terms). The founding members (Peter, Tony, Mike, and Anthony) all had some basic theory and rudimentary classical instruction, but only Tony seriously studied classical piano.

  • That this song translates so easily to classical instruments just proves what I always knew. This is the best and most complete song ever written.

  • great , the girls plays to genesis so good, love this music , tanks .

  • bravo thank you;this music as if coming from another time or outside time, from the unnokwn!!!

  • Cello and viola extraordinary...violin slightly out of tune

  • I love it!

  • The ending was dissapointing

  • very well done . ending wasnt great.........no climax

  • a big thumbs down........Prog Rock is not ment to be washed down like Mozart

  • I recall reading once Steve Hackett saying their is an entire orchestra in a guitar.

  • Having seen many tribute acts and older prog bands in the last few years, [reformed and touring], my conclusion, is that the best way to re-live or re-experience this type of music is in this type of 'classical'/acoustic setting. Electronics just seem to get in the way and give a hopelessly unbalanced sound. I've seen it very often. I have a very rare recording of Focus numbers arranged for 2 classical guitars. It really works.

  • I also have that guitar album! On vinyl and still play it after all these years. Very good and, I agree, it works too.

  • @martinjp1958 you should see the Musical Box perform this stuff... I've talked with people who have seen Genesis... and they say those guys do Genesis better than Genesis did... not sure if that's true... but they are amazing in concert

  • @chyrd Ive been lightman for the musical box and i can tell you that those guys play so well that even Phil Collins told them they were better then them ''live''. But they didnt wrote the songs. Its easy (relatively) to be a copycat when you practice a lot. Still you didnt wrote the songs. PLus, monitoring system didnt exist at that time when genesis was performing. So since the musical box have monitors to play live, they ear themselves more then Genesis did. So i think Genesis was better live

  • @vectorfive The Beatles used onstage monitoring in 1965... so you are incorrect. BTW, I'm an audio engineer.

  • @chyrd then why the beatles stopped playing live complaining they couldnt ear themselves play cuz ppl were shouting so loud?

  • @vectorfive because they couldn't... Genesis had a different crowd... they would come, shut up and listen to the music... the other issue the beatles had was they weren't proficient enough to pull off what they were doing in the studios...

  • @chyrd Thx for the infos

  • I watched the whole DVD. It has many good moments, and kudos for the pianist/arranger for doing it. Unfortunately, the most difficult (and interesting) parts of the compositions are removed in these arrangements (which are labeled as "abridged").

  • This proves how firmly Genesis' music was rooted in classical music. Even without guitars and drums it sounds excellent. But I do miss the epic guitar solos

  • i am just in a perfectly timed ripple - towards the outer perimeter, seeing all behind me, feeling all the force of the outsplash, but in an emotion that words can never describe when i hear the classic version of ripples. thanks bevanjphillips

  • awesome & beautiful!!

  • cor blimey!

  • Where do I apply to be a roadie?

  • Yea i be a roadie n all ! :)

  • Subject: thank goodness he has got a plan - (impaled - flynn dives)

Anagram: Honest AA - plod thanks - Hoe's gang - Feds palm Id - (envy nil)

  • wow. surprising

  • Subject: Jindals missed opportunity - ebb just win

Anagram: J lawyers - impudent bio spin - stunt - Job Ids

  • LINDO, PERFEITO.

  • merveilleuse reprise

  • Wow, this is great! Who performed this? They are awesome! The violinist with the dirty brown hair is hot... ;-)

  • ...But he still wrote the song.

  • Well, co-wrote. Mick Barnard (a brief member of Genesis) also had a hand in writing the tune.

  • This tune totally works as a string quartet

  • They forgot to write Phillips under who wrote the song

  • i dont think he was credited on the album - Ant was gone by then.

  • beautiful

  • Unreal!

  • actually i find it quite dull.

  • I think I'm in love!

I mean I want to have all their babies!

Music certainly does soothe the savage beast!

It covers a multitude of regret.

How sweet it is the ear!

  • LOL. You mean you went them all to have your babies! anyway, dude. I know what you mean. Beautiful isn't it. i think there is nothing more erotic than a woman playing an instrument of the violin family and the Musical Box to boot.

  • great! very nice to see people respecting this great sound/band, i give them credit for trying such a great tune, good job ladies!

  • It gets nicer everytime...

  • Very cool,very strange,very good!

  • this sounds like a really musical box, they don't have the "in the groove " jazzy hackett-gabriel's sound for this part, but is ok..(..duties as a mate...LOL)

  • oh please, the idea is good here, not the execution. 1. some bad notes from the strings. 2. what the hell is with the ending? endless repetition of the part of the original song that creates tension before the climatic chaos, and then a fade out, without the actual climax? You must be kidding guys. Missed opportunity...

  • Good try any way, room for improvement but on the right path. Give them some credit!

  • Prog-rock songs are just as complex if not more complex than classical music!

  • Come on lads be open minded! Don't put music into categories...Just let it be free! You know music should have freedom.

  • Agreed wholeheartedly.

But also agreed with ajittffcure in a way.

This is the same quality level as any classical music to me. Old classical Genesis is just very good music...

  • that woman who comes on the screen 1st, well i would fuck her silly!

  • funny i was thinking the same thing!

  • She's nice mate! A good wife i bet & an awesome woman! Some ones lucky...

  • but would cello practice interfere with her duties as a "mate"!?

  • lol

  • take care

  • bra, annorlunda men bra,bra bilder

  • wow... this is totally awesome, where can I buy this or listen more of this?

  • Genesis:da sempre nel mio cuore, da ora nell'olimpo...

  • Oh wow, they do such a beautiful job on this!

  • It simply shows how powerful this song is ... Fantastic ....

  • I've got shivers...

  • hermoso simplemente hermoso

  • Nice, but it should be faster than that.

  • And it could have the epic ending...

Perhaps even a bit of the guitar solo?

Oh man that would be just too much...

  • Mmm; classical babes -- who are they? ;-) Stirring arrangement and performance. They'd need a full orchestra to do the Closing Section!

  • Just brilliant.

  • I thought it would have been awsome to hear a violin rendition of hackett's solo.

  • Beautiful Reindition

  • beautiful tribute

  • I love it. Absolutely beautiful.
