@joncarolyn Yes that's because many koreans faced discrimination in Japanese owned businesses and corporations.  So instead many chooses to either own their business or join a gang. This is quite common in various ethnics around the world who were discriminated against. Jews were similar examples and so were Italians.

Not all Zainichi support the North. 25% do. Those guys needed to be royally booted the fuck out of Japan. Many Koreans couldn't return to Korea because if they didnt go within the 5 year time frame from 1945 to 1950, they would have to wait until the Korean war was over, and even after that, there were no jobs and shit in Korea. If you were originally from the North, many Koreans were wise to stay in Japan. They knew the dangers of those commies. Also, Kim Il Sung and Sgyman Rhee, the two dictators of North and South Korea respectively, both abhored Jap-sympthizers and many innocent Koreans were...

i find it intriguing how han chang woo reveals his life as an immigrant on japanese tv. I will point out tho when he talks about how Koreans moved to japan because of extreme poverty in korea after ww2 , it actually goes both ways in that korean ppl who were taken to japan by force during the colonial period had hopes to go back to korea after the war but couldn't because korea was devestated after ww2 and was considered a 3rd world country during the50's and 60's.
