I have been having this problem since I was 16 and it would happen on and off. Im now 32. Initially I thought it was alchohol related. But after I quit drinking It continued to occur. Then I thought it was certain foods. The last 5 times may have been induced by anxiety. I have a doctors appt this friday and I hope that the doctor will listen when I tell her it may be C.V.S.
@jondill 33 here. almost exactly as you described. people always told me it was either alcohol or food poisoning. but almost always it is stress induced. lack of sleep and overexertion physically will also trigger my bouts. they are awful, painful, and make my brain feel like I am am hallucinating.
I to was told that my symptoms were from Cannabinoid Hyperemesis. I told my doc that I use weed 2 stop nausea and vomiting, he instantly told me that it was caused from the weed. Typical response. Hears weed and OMG the sky is falling you need help. I told him to review his notes. He then remembered that Ive had this since I was 7. I now have a script for Marinol that works for me BUT When I have to, I smoke a small amount of marijuana when I get into my nausea fits and cant hold down the pills.
@cindy1000000 My doctors say it is from either too much THC making you sick or the all of a sudden stop of ingesting THC which the doctors say makes you violently ill. I laughed at my doctor, told him to read my chart. It clearly said that I have been having the vomiting episodes since I was 7. Cannabinoid Hyperemesis is Just another name name for REEFER MADNESS or evil weed etc etc etc. Total BS. An excuse to write down in the charts & stats that MJ has caused another suffering Human Being.
I was diagnoses with cvs back in march of 2010, been suffering with it two years now. lots of hospital visits and i'm on my way of seeing a third specialist who happens to deal with conditions like this, i was wondering if anyone had specific cocktails that work for them. if anyone could let me know that would be great , thanks
Has anyone been to the hospital, not because of a CVS emergency, but for research on your case of CVS? I have, and they made me drink barium. Stuff. Is. Horrible. The thick kind was better, and it tasted like strawberries, but the thin kind ironically almost made me puke. Thank you, ALoveForOrcas.
Ive had vomiting cycles that have lasted 2 weeks or less.
I have been through every GI diagnosis test known to the hospitals here in wichita ks. I have also had my gall bladder removed in the process.
Doctors have given up except my General physician that prescribed amitriptyline which has made the gastric pains and episodes go down to non exsistance.
I have CVS and I've had it as long as I can remember, like when I was 1. I would lie in bed at night half asleep wondering what was happening to me, then I woke up and realized I had to vomit. Then it got to the point where I had attacks every week. I'm 13.
@plpanther Aw :( . . i get an episode every 1 -2mos but it has gotten better. I was 2 when they figured out it was CVS. I'm 15 almost 16now. . Hope it gets better for you.
I have cvs and i found only strong drugs that knock me out seem to help. im prescribed to a cocktail of drugs that i have found addicting and saddening I wish they knew more about this because it is very scary to me
Im one of those patients! Sucks though, I was well for 1 year and now im getting it again as a 2nd year in College so that makes it annoying for me because no one knows what it is.
I myself have this since the age of 7, I am now 37. I also have Bipolar. I have finally found a medicine that works for me. I use marijuana to stop my nausea and vomiting. I have tried many meds from all sorts of anti-depressants and anti-nausea meds also and the only one that has worked for me is marijuana. i do not live in a medical marijuana state but I use it anyways. This is a horrible illness and I do recommend trying the use of Cannabis to stop the effects of this illness.
@mrmom442 I too have CVS. I'm sure you have ruled this about, but have you ever heard of Cannabinoid Hyperemesis? It causes symptoms are very similar to CVS. My doctor has me see if I have it because I had CVS when i was young and then it recurred a year after I started Cannabis use. I stopped using it for 2 months and while I did not notice a decrease in episodes, I know 2 people who thought they have CVS when when they stopped smoking, the episodes stopped after a while of abstinence.
@HearingEveryRhyme I remember getting vomiting spells from age 7. would get them & stay home from school & then work & then b fine for weeks & then again for a few days etc. I never tried MJ until I was 27. I tried it 2 relieve migraines. didnt stop headaches when I had them BUT did stop them from appearing. also noticed that I didnt get the spells. I didnt realize that until I was 29. So I went 22 years with it. I use marinol now & MJ when the spells wont let the pills stay down.I find it works
@HearingEveryRhyme I do the same thing. Use as a preventative for the headaches and nausea. When the Marinol isnt enough I have to take some tokes and the nausea goes away. Last spell I had was about 4-6 months ago. It was bad, 2 days and 6 pounds lost later, I had enough and smoked about .3 grams in a bowl and within 30 minutes I was holding down water and actually ate some chicken nuggets and held them down. Its a beautiful thing.
@HearingEveryRhyme i live in california also and i have my medical recomendation and i have cvs also....except the dr.s are blaming my cvs on the weed...
@loked2thebrain Have you tried to stop consumption for a while to see? I'm not assuming your an idiot, I just want to help. When did you develop your CVS, how often does it manifest, and doe sit manifest right in the morning?
There have been cases of cannabinoid hyperemesis. Any one who smokes doesn't want to admit that it may be the bud that is causing their sickness, just like someone who drinks might not want to admit that it may contribute to their depression. I got CVS when I was 9 lol.
@HearingEveryRhyme yes, i have not smoked for 1 month and 2 weeks now....they diagnosed me with cvs about 2 months ago...they removed my gall bladder before they diagnosed me...ive been getting these episodes for 4 years now...been smoking marijuana for 5 years...but strange thing is it ony used to happen when i would get really mad or when somthing really dramatic happens in my life...but now it happens out of the oardinary...the last time i got it, it lasted 2 full weeks and i lost 20-30 lbs
@loked2thebrain I'm really sorry to hear about that. Excitement is a large factor for cvs, while it does not trigger my episodes, hormones do, and since I'm still young, I get episodes because of them. Food triggers are also a problem for a lot of people. Since CVS is related to migraines, check out some migraine triggers. One book I like is called "The Migraine Brain," it really helps you understand it. I'll message you some more info.
