Transfer iPhone Contacts To New Computer

At first this didn't work for me. Address book on my Mac remained empty.

I took off iCloud sync with Contacts. Now everything works nicely!

That pop up with merge option, is it only in the latest version of itunes? I do find it hair-raising to send a transaction like this BEFORE ensuring how the data will be handled.

Hi, I have a question. I have been trying tirelessly to do this and getting very frustrated. Your instructions are great but the problem I'm having is at the point where you say a window comes up asking if you want to merge - I'm not getting that window. When I click sync it says "Syncing steps 1 of 4" and after about three seconds it says it's done. And my address book on my Mac remains empty. Any thoughts? Thanks!

this actually didnt work for me. It added groups to my iphone contacts and I clicked on my address book application on my mac and its empty. I have no contacts from my iphone in my mac.

I accidentally hit replace info instead of merge when I was trying to sync my contacts from the iPhone to iTunes, now my iPhone does not have any of the contacts I originally had and not sure how I can relocate all of my contacts. Can someone help with this issue?

@AnaFahrass I would love to help you, but I have never seen anyone go through this process and still not have the Merge window pop up. I've done it 10,000 times and still, the Merge window comes up every time.

iCloud has me ripping my hair out. I had duplicates like mad in my iPhone. So I got a free app to delete the duplicates. Then I looked at my contacts on my Macbook Pro and they're gone. When I try your steps to put iPhone contacts back on Macbook, I am never asked to merge (instruction 8). I put one entry in the Macbook address book and it transfers to the iPhone, but the iPhone contacts do not transfer to the Macbook. Any suggestions? Please & thanks.

I have just done as you suggested, I even put a sample name in my laptop address book causing it to ask to merge with iPhone. But after syncing, my Mac laptop address book still has only the sample name, and the iPhone still has all the hundred or so contacts, plus a 'from my mac' group with the sample name. So it's merged my iphone but not my laptop. Can you advise?

@dannychingchong first of all, in the last few versions of itunes, when you press merge info it does exactly that, it merges all the info onto your computer, period. that's just how it was designed to work. you must have done something wrong, like press the replace info button by accident when you thought you hit merge, it was a mistake that cost you dearly, so blame no one but yourself.

@Sytrusze this step by step process works every time, but for only the people who know how to follow the instructions. you have to take your time and REALLY think about each step as you do it. your contacts are not something you can just wing, you have to really follow the steps and then it does work.
