In rain time they come out, in dry time you cant find them...in MAthugama my grandfather, my mothers father used to walk on his large wild lands barefoot at like 6 in the morning with mist still in those areas and come back home with a plenty of these, he just stir and hit his foot on ground few times and they fal off and dries and dies as sun rises...

we've even got them here in Norway. they live in small inland freshwaters where it used to be usual to go "fish" for them in the old days for the apothecarys. appearently it was just to stick your bare feet down in the water and wait for them to bite. salt is also a good way to get them to release. just went on a fieldtrip where one bit a student. she panic'd though got it of with salt when the teacher told her to relax.

wow i live in s.w. washington state and the leeches we have arent as crafty they pretty much wait in the water for you to enter, it also seemed like it hurt to have it on you the ones here you cant even feel until after you pull them off i should know i get them every time i fish my favorite pond. and if you throw them on land thier pretty much useless to travel, they make good bait though. nice vid your more couragious than i. if i saw those i would run like a girl.
