  • qxygen is needed for flame so how does the engines work without oxygen in space im sorry but i think its lies

  • really amaing and beautiful!! very nice...

  • U F O @ 3:53

  • U F O 3:53

  • Who are the 18 people that didn't like this???? This is amazing and beautiful!!!

  • What are the spark things that shoot from the pad at :10??

  • @McChuugy starters to ignite the fuel i think

  • @zperuna i thought so

  • It's beautifull machine.

  • I'm so fucking proud to be an AMERICAN!!! All those terrorists that attack us just hate and envy us because our new nation has achieved and done much more than what the "old world" has ever done in the entire length of human history. I'm only dissapointed that manned space exploration sorta stopped after we reached the moon. In 1969, I believe that people thought that by the year 2000, we would have already colonized Mars (like on Total Recall) or that we would have a "moon base".

  • @PietriGuitars said>I'm so xx proud to be an AMERICAN!!!

I too am so thankful to GOD that I was born in AMERICA and not some socialist or communistic backed country. One thing about going to the moon I have never understood though. We see all the pictures and videos of the alledged moon landings, but why have we never seen the proof with the powerful space telescopes. There is supposed to be a flag on the moon and what about that moon rover that was left there on one of the last Apollo trips???

  • @USAFreedomReform Just go to Google Images and search Apollo 11 Landing Site, etc., and you'll find pics

  • WOW SO COOL!!

  • CHECK OUT "2012 UFOs Connections and Revelations" ON YOUTUBE This is a compilation of evidence revealed by former and present American presidents, astronauts, military personnel, politicians along with credible aired UFO footage. This compilation also contains planned revelations regarding knowledge of life beyond Earth along with it's current and ever ongoing presence which is being hidden from the public. This knowledge has been hidden from the public for over 50 years. + MORE.

  • I'm fairly sure those shuttle starts will be one of the greatest things my eyes will ever have seen

  • Awesome video, one of the best. Welcome home Discovery, and all the best for a very happy retirement. Thanks for the out of space 'ride'....,

  • All back safe and sound. What a machine!........."Obsolete"! i think not.

  • thanks NASA for posting this. I made a video tribute for you guys on the great bird Discovery. It shows the VAB assembly, crawler rollout and last actual launch of the magnificent Shuttle Discovery. Please give it a look: watch?v=Qj5tHzcMe0g

  • President Barack Obama: I talked to the grey's leader Sir...

David Rockefeller: Goooood and what did he say my boy?

President Barack Obama: He said that everything is ready for Nibiru's arrival on 12.21.12 and that there is not going to be another Roswell.

David Rockefeller: I don't want anything between my rockets this time. Can you come over here with your entire staff?

President Barack Obama: But Sir, it's 2am

    David Rockefeller: So...?

President Barack Obama: "Yes We Can".

  • I am as most people including Allard Beutel know NOT a great supporter of flying the Shuttle at the expense more effective ways - via commercial private companies in delivering payload and people into space at a cheaper price, but in latter-day flights I'm very impressed with the "ET CAM" and have to say I can't get enough of the plasma ring visuals. Nikky Stott's high school is blocks from my house and I loved interviewing her in May. Godspeed, Discovery.

  • Just as it was when we stopped travelling to the moon...just as it was when Concorde was retired...so shall it be when Discover, Atlantis, and Endevour fly no more....it will be yet another day when humanity will take a technological step backwards.

God speed to the final crews of our final space shuttle flights. A machine that will fade into history just as beautiful as Concorde, and as awe inspiring as the Saturn V Rocket.

  • I teared up. Such an amazing sight, i'm sad i will never see this technology lift off in person.

  • Point blank NASA owns !!

  • My question is, why is the shuttle being retired? It was designed for 100 missions is that right? So dividing the cost of the shuttle by 30, how much did each trip, or mission, cost us?

  • @17seventySIX Each mission Typically cost about $500,000,000. But its not so much of the cost of each missions. Discovery is 27 years old.. Remember how Discovery was to fly in November. All of these problems that occurred. The cost of maintaining these remarkable machines is high.

  • rocket in outer space after what ??

  • guys its just thermal foam comming of the main fuel tank...but what would be a problem if one of those pieces bounced off the shuttle at 14,000 miles an hour

  • yo yo yo its me bobby subscribe to me noobsssssss

  • What happened in 4:10? Thats not good. :O

  • RED ALERT!

    RED ALERT!

What fell off the shuttle at video mark 4:10?

    RED ALERT!

    RED ALERT!

  • @BLUZRULZ48 im not re explaining this. its only foam.. chill out

  • 3:57 to 4:11 Theres stuff coming off the shuttle...........God bless them

  • Dear NASA;

On January 16 2003, less than 90 seconds after takeoff, a piece of thermal insulation foam broke off the external tank of Space Shuttle Columbia. As you have concluded, that caused a hole in Columbia's left wing, and upon re-entry the unfortunate disaster happened. At 4:11 of this video, it seems the exact incident has happened only this time the shuttle was travelling at over 6 mach. I am sure you have reviewed the video, but please review it again and again. Wishing a safe landing.

  • @THECOMMENTER10000 Discovery is fine believe me. that foam had no effect on Discovery what so ever. It simply bounced off her underbelly. Foam strikes always occur. just one in a Million back in '03 it did. that wont ever happen again

  • @Trex1094 I later learned that they did a Rendezvous pitch maneuver, which is when the shuttle flips on it's side and inspected and photographed from the ISS at a distance of 180m. The NASA crew started doing this maneuver in the mission after the Columbian disaster. There seems to be no damage to the heat shield of this mission.

  • @THECOMMENTER10000 Thats correct (: finally someone gets it

  • After 2:45 could that jetstream on the right be the plane that saw the shuttle take off?

  • hey guys, i live in the middle east and its about 7:25 rite now. i woke up a 6:05 and looked at the moon. GEUSS WAT I SAW! i saw discovery about 200,00 km from the moon!

  • @TheSausagepwner Somewhat inaccurate, theyre more like 384700km from the moon

  • @TheSausagepwner GUESS WHAT! YOU ARE WRONG. I highly doubt that you saw discovery, however, if that was discovery, then what you saw is NO MORE THAN 425 kilometers away from Earth. The distance from Earth to the Moon is 400,000 KM

ما شاء الله على الذكاء (you must be a genius)

  • @THECOMMENTER10000 ISS is 360KM

  • @Trex1094 yeah that's about average alt. I was talking about Max.

  • 3:55 is a ovni?

    a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/183702_1894384926378_1444228032_2206633_670831_n.jpg

  • WTF?? please anybody can tell me what is this!? 3:57 .. it's don't seems like something normal in the space.. i don't know.. just watch it..

  • I'm sad, no more Discovery and only 2 more missions left.

  • the nasa should put a live video camera on space so we can see the galaxy on the nasa channel :)

  • great video

  • mire en el minuto 3:57 - 4:14 !!

  • when are you going to space? or is there a race to get there and if we all could work side by side it would happen allot faster and cheaper.. wakeup

  • @ananiasacts racist?, why for telling the truth

  • Yeah why not working on space exploration... or funding more money to destroy threats like asteroids... but business and money is more important than.... to life 1000 more years. Todays Idiocracy

  • The best wishes to STS-133 crew! May they land well again!

  • UFO @ 3:57

  • @Thrashin4 we also see,,,we wait explanation from NASA.,,,, regards from ROMANIA

  • @finelefe1 Discovery is fine, No damage. only foam. chill

  • @Trex1094 look what brought down Columbia. Foam. Looks as if they were already in orbit judging how it skipped down the fuselage and didn't hit is with a hard impact Still worrisome though.

  • @Spatakula Nothing to worry about. the TPS is in good shape. all inspections have shown no damage

  • @Thrashin4 where the hell do you see anything at 3:57????

  • @SAMMYJS991 look at the bottom right side of the screen.

  • @Thrashin4 dude, that is part of a small piece of the orange tank that came off.

  • @SAMMYJS991 Right side between the shuttle and the tank

  • @Thrashin4 ???

  • @Thrashin4 it's the suns reflection on glass

  • @selfatrophy Simply a piece of insulation foam falling odd the external tank. Foam strikes occur on nearly every shuttle mission and rarely ever cause any damage. It's only proved fatal only once 2/1/03. Columbia. Yesterday Discovery performed the Rendezvous Pitch Maneuver which is a 360 degree 1 degree per second, head over heels back-flip so the ISS can inspect for any damage, and none was found.

  • @Trex1094

    Thanks for the explanation.

    Why was my comment removed?

Some mega nerd controlling Nasa's YouTube account, oviously.

  • @selfatrophy They dont want people to panic, but theres nothing to worry about. no damage is found. and there is still one more inspection after undocking from ISS. This will happen a day upon re-entry and landing(: Landing currently scheduled for March 7th, @ 12:39PM EST... knowing NASA it will change. I've been watching all the events live, and im not positive, but i think i over heard they added an extra day. lol

  • Ufo at minute 03:57, look

  • @neshikot This was also mealy foam falling off of the External Fuel tank.

  • Hmm.. im noticing that most of the people here complaining are from other countries.

Jealousy sure is an ugly monster.

With that being said, this is truly an awesome vehicle considering how outdated it is.

  • I hear you,but I'm afraid of heights so I would just stay here like a modern day Robinson Crusoe

  • does anyone know why it was their last ride? is it going to be over for NASA?

  • @SHAGGYSPAGECHANNEL NASA will be around, but the current shuttle program will be terminated by year's end with replacement vehicles to follow at some point. NASA considers the space shuttles obsolete and too expensive to operate and maintain, especially since the Columbia disaster from 2003.

  • Wow, imagine being up there, the view...NASA brings dreams true.

  • Amazing the shuttle traveled some 447 miles from the Kennedy space center in just over 6 minutes.

  • This is awesome! Hear that American glory roar!!!

  • ups... and greatings to Nicole ;)

  • Crew have a huge steal balls...

  • seriously, what was that debris at 3:57, and 4:11??

hope it is not the thermal sheet tiles on the shuttle itself. I am scared

  • @000sure111 Nasa already took 100's of pictures from the space station and will probably sent an astronaut to check it so history doesn't repeat itself ! looking forward for a safe landing.

  • seriously, what was that debris at 3:57, and 4:11??

  • @000sure111es un meteorite : D

  • . . Big tile separation at @04:12 ...looks like leading wing edge ... port side .

  • @toroviolet

worse than flying away, one looks like it bounces off the tiles...that debris didn't cause a problem, did it, NASA?

  • @leisulin Foam coming off at that time causes no damage because their well out of the atmosphere.

  • lets fix earth before we mess up space.

  • @mrkoldkanuck

Let's have the ability to have a haven somewhere in space, in case we've already messed up the earth beyond repair, or realize that we're so hell-bent on such a track that we won't be able to AVOID it.

  • @mrkoldkanuck

...or, as I should have said, let's have the ability to have a haven in space in case something ELSE happens to totally end civilization, like a monster volcanic eruption or a small-town-sized earth-crossing asteroid hitting us (because we didn't take THAT problem seriously enough either before it was too late)...

  • . . Deep down , my feelings, these old birds will Fly again, we will need them...

  • If you listen at the very moment of booster ignition, it actually sounds like a lion's roar. Odd that the liftoff audio never quite sounded like that in past launch videos. Must have been the Grand Old Lady's way of announcing her last ride... NASA's oldest and most experienced, she will be missed. Godspeed!

  • 4:11 What is that that fell off? Debris?

  • THIS IS USA GO NASA did Isee tile fly off?at 4.400? NASA DO YOU READ:

  • @gwengoadalso No. I thought the same thing when I watched earlier. I think it was ice, since it came from the external tank and not the shuttle.

  • THIS IS USA GO NASA

  • Frozen embryos are projected to last for 33,000 years even at one percent the speed of light that’s a range of 330 light years. That is about a million and a half habitable planets within our reach.

  • We can escape our solar system. So, the one hundred year vehicle is meant to last a life span, making interstellar travel more feasible. We can reach a habitable planet, because we can turn the ship on and raise the humans from embryos when they get there. A very daunting task but easer then consecutive generations lasting thousands of years confined.

  • We know we can reach the stars if we can freeze the starter womb. Clone the smallest mammal or if possible the smallest mouse. Select the same size and weight a perfect match. Take them to hibernation and cut them into pieces. Then freeze the parts because only small animals or organs can survive freezing.

  • Inspect them by MRI to see if the parts survived freezing. Ship them to another star system and assemble them into a living mouse. At this point limbs are not important only the ability to gystate and raise a baby is needed, so only the head and torso is necessary.

  • That first healthy baby is used as a womb to gestate larger and larger mice until a genetically modified mouse gives birth to a pig. Then from a pig to larger pigs until a genetically modified pig gives birth to a chimpanzee. Finally, a loving chimpanzee gives birth to a human being. A chain of humans inspect the planet and plan migration to the surface. So, even at only one percent the speed of light we can as embryos take all of mankind’s diversity to the stars.

  • If we can show that freezing a tiny mammal is possible then interstellar travel is possible. However this does raise several questions. Any alien life is also likely evolved then escaped their star system in the same way. Then why are there no radio signals, or alien contact?

  • Once again NASA shows the best side of humanity :)

  • A dream of mine is that in my lifetime I will be able to see us travel to the moon again, with everything documented in high definition. All video shot by the astronauts inside of the shuttle on the way, footage of the landing, and footage on the surface. Mars would be amazing too.

  • Why isn't this video in HD?

  • @nickmooreimages because they have old camera :D . Camera is not important

  • Is there any particular reason why the shuttle leaves the atmosphere upside down?

  • @Favk21 Pretty sure it is for stability.

  • @Favk21 Many reasons. There are antennas on the top & bottom of the orbiter. With the tank on, the top ones are used to transmitt to ground. Second, the tank protects the orbiter in the atmosphere (aerodynamic forces). Third, so the crew has a reference to the horizon for emergency's. The orbiter does roll back over higher up before engine cutoff though.

  • @aimhigh59 Thank you

  • WTF ? UFO IN MINUTE 3:57 !!!!!

  • 4:11, that is NOT good :P

  • @Maddoxis007 Good catch at 4:11.

  • @Autocad Thanks mate.

  • @Maddoxis007 what was that? just tiles?

  • @Maddoxis007 Saw that too on the day of the launch and tweeted it to NASA.hope they checked it out while doing their checks in orbit!

  • @TaySharpie Haha yeah. I'm sure it was nothing though...hopefully :P

  • @Maddoxis007 It was probably just some ice breaking of the external tank, looks worse than it is.

  • Anyone notice a small piece fallen off at 4:17?

  • Too bad our current president has no vision and he is an appeasing coward. He would rather waste money on things that will never pay off. Yet NASA has given us more for the ridiculously small investment we put in than any government welfare program ever will

  • so whats next?

  • 30 years and why hasnt the tech changed but we have faster gaming consoles? why dont we have light speed yet? ;D *thumbs up*

  • i hope the torch of space exploration will be past on to other people,it's our destiny to conquer space

  • I'm afraid this represents a slow stop to our reach into space. We may never even make it to Mars.

  • man this sucks that there are ending it

  • 4:12 didnt the shuttle that exploded had a similar problem?

  • @tommasosimoncini

yeah.. on the external tank big deal..

  • Why is there flame at around 8:20? whats that doing?

  • @markyfilarky Hmm, isn't that the Shuttle going through the Atmosphere?

  • Why is it called last ride?

  • @johnkx

because nasa are retiring the space shuttle project

  • @johnkx Because the shuttle is being retired after this mission.

  • Did anyone see that bright dot of white light move in the top left black region of the screen at about 6:47? What was that?

  • @Superbustr i was just about to say that too lol good lookin out

  • feed the world not go to space wtf they are looking for anyway? someone tell me please.

  • @pebblesdan1= The World's not going to last forever. We have to start searching for other worlds. If not for the Space program, we wouldn't have certain things. GPS, cellular phones, satellite communications, microwave technology, and medical discoveries. All you people that complain about the Space Program remember. Without it, you wouldn't be here complaining about it, and you wouldn't be able to see the Annoying Orange without it.

  • @pebblesdan1

    What are they looking for???

Answers to the most important questions in the Universe!

Other places for us to visit!

    New life!

    New Civilisations!

Feeding the world is more in your hands than it is in NASA's.

Send a care package. Volunteer and go there to help the people you claim you want to help.

The space program is about Humanity's future!

But go ahead, keep thinking about your own high opinion of yourself and then don't do anything about your proclamations - as usual.

  • @pebblesdan1 yeah you're right, who needs the internet and the use of phones? fucken dumbass.

  • What is that black thing at 3:57 ? in the bottom right hand corner that flies past ?

  • @Snuffles10155 nice find bro!

  • the gas for this thing must cost more than the shuttle itself

  • @Joesterisk GAS is free , thats why US invade IRAQ ..free gas

  • @tommasosimoncini That chunk that flew off a 4:11 was a piece of the External Tank (ET), and seems to be harmless. The orbiter itself would be unaffected.

  • and some people think this is a waste of money....the US spends 100 times the NASA budget on finding new ways to kill people. I hope that within my life time there's a shift of consciousness and people start to see that if we put more effort toward things like space exploration we won't need fighter planes and lazer guided missiles anymore. it's time to move on.

  • @boognishishere we wudnt have the space shuttle if we didnt spend money on the military, most technology comes from wars, like it or not

  • @lmola501 true, the past is the past but that doesn't mean things can't change.

  • @boognishishere I hate to disagree, but you are partially wrong. I do agree that space exploration is one of the most important things we need to focus on, but we will never be without war. Think back to any time humans have tried to expand and explore, the exploration of America for example. A lot of it was territory conflict, and I bet you 100% it will happen with space exploration. It's just a sad fact that humans will always argue and disagree, and sometimes it will lead to war.

  • @Idiotversion And put innocent civilians in harms way? Pathetic, why not let the people decide!

  • @Idiotversion I guess we have to agree to disagree. Peace, brother.

  • Who threw out the Hershy wrapper at 4 :11 ?

  • how fast they flying?

  • Next project: SPACE ELEVATOR!

  • GO SCIENCE!!

  • what happens to the external tank one it separates from the shuttle? dose it just float off in outer space or dose it attempt to re-enter?

  • @michaellewisjohn2 it re-enters the atmosphere and breaks up over the Indian Ocean :D

  • @ChrisAstro30 oh so it makes it one of the only parts that are not re-used, thanks for that :)

  • this gave me the motivation to finish my physics homework

  • @tommasosimoncini have they made any comments on this incident ??

  • what reason does anyone have in disliking this video? I dont think idiots should have youtube channels

  • ..."Thanks to 194,181 participants who sent your names and images to be flown on STS-133...". Und ich bin dabei :-)

  • Why sent people to space if you can wage yet another war...

  • Something can be seen hitting the shuttle (perhaps a bit of foam from the external tank) at the 4.10 mark. Anyone know more about this?

  • Was that a bit of foam I saw hitting the shuttle at around the 5 minute mark? What was weird was that when I tried to backup to see it the video wouldn't replay.

  • @ananiasacts - retard

  • it got up to 14 THOUSAND miles an hour at one point!!!

  • @tommasosimoncini YES THIS MUST BE NOTICED NOW !!!!! NASA....HAVE A LOOK UNDER THE SHUTTLE!!!

  • @gurulyness The shuttle is fine you idiots. You can tell that there was no damage whatsoever.

  • 0 to 12,700MPH in 7:15

  • Tax dollars at work. This whole NASA thing should be privatized. Picture the shuttle with a leading beer manufacturer's label on its side. At least it would be generating revenues instead of just expending tax money taken from the poor.

  • @frerrr government doesn't tax people like you. They tax people with money, after all that makes more sense than you who still lives with his mom and dad.
