  • LOVE the guitar at the beginning and ZOMG when it picks up pace! Best vid ever!

  • I grew up watching this... Thank you so much for sharing

  • Justin Bieber created 6 accounts to dislike this!

  • To clarify, I've seen Maria Pages do this with the male lead and as a solo, the other dancer that took over from her in the other version (red shoes), she dances with three other men. This one's still one of my favourites.

  • I love her dress!!!! And he is soooo handsome! :)

  • Rafael Riqueni making magic with his guitar

  • Excuse me, 1995

  • @MisheruSomar Maybe you should get one of those travel TVs that play tapes. Mine kept me able to watch Riverdance, and the 2995 version, too. Although, they were my music teacher's, so I couldn't watch it forever...

  • simply brilliant

  • Music Teacher: Hey, class, were going to watch a movie.

Me: *Hooked on Riverdance for life*

  • Dear Good...

  • Ya kno... Michael Flatly and Gene Wilder look very similar...

  • LOVE the dance so cool

how can any one dislike that

  • I saw this at Manchester it was amazing xxx

  • So sexy and passionate! I love the peacockery @ 3:33 - 3:55!

  • without a doubt my favourite riverdance performance :) just love it!!

  • I LOVE this!!!! Amazing, they are both so talented. So much fire and passion in the dance and the music compliments this.

  • the first time i ever saw this i thought she was black, and then she comes into the light and i'm like oh! nevermind! hehe! Love this dance! My family and i say she kills cockroaches with that dance!

  • Fantántica la fusión entre el zapateado flamenco y el zapateado irlándes. La música irlandesa maravillosa. Los celtas también estuvieron en España. Algo tenemos en común.

  • love the bit at the start on guitar, wonder what the chords are?

  • MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE DANCES. HANDS DOWN. Love her :)

  • have to watch stoned its amaizng i no it sounds bad but ive seen the one of her on her own an this one an this one is soo much more sexy the looks she gives him there eyes meet the moves the way he toughs her amazing

  • Did anyone else catch the wink he gave Maria? I love this show. x)

  • @YouFoundMeWaiting i think his eye twitchs

  • To be honest, I've seen several performances of Firedance, and I prefer the one where she is alone. Flatley distracts from her strength and grace in this performance. . . or at least, that's my opinion. Flamenco is all about the strength of the woman performing. The addition of a man just takes away from that.

  • The astonishing thing is: She doesn't look like much of a dancer... o.O

  • wow she sucks

  • @dramagrl97 hmmm ever thought of getting a gun and blowing your own fucking head off??? just an idea

  • @DodgyJusByName never really came to my mind accually(:

  • @dramagrl97 course it didnt, bet your parents had real trouble bringing you up.

  • @DodgyJusByName like seriously, whats wrong with you! im 13 and im an honor student! so NO my parents had NO FREAKING PROBLEMS BRINGING ME UP thanks you very much!!! and its an opinion that i didnt like it, THATS SOMETHING CALLED LIFEEEE.

  • @dramagrl97 lol, you've just contradicted yourself... what was i doin? commenting - the same as you!!... "meh, its something called life".. like you said your 13yrs old, your opininon aint worth shit yet.. get a job, have a few relationships, gain some responsibilities then start preaching to me about life.. cus rite now at 13 your just another whiney little git, giving there opinion when they don't know fuck-all.

  • @DodgyJusByName okay well if you know so much about life then you should no to get over it better than a 13 year old. like really, can you please just stop, its a youtube fight! its stupid..i dont wanna strt anything! and stop making accusations about me when you really dont know me. thanks

  • Goosebumps down my spine

  • I grew up with this tape. Whenever my Mom asked if I wanted to watch Barney, I'd say no with a smile and pull this out. Then I'd fast-forward to this dance. =) Even back then I saw how beautiful the dancing was...

  • @TheCaptainJade So did I, dude. My cousin and I would dance when my grandma put this tape on. hahaha, she'd act like our audience. And we try and imitate her and all the other dancers, man even then I understood the beauty in this!

  • at the end you just expect them to explode with sexual passion leaving behind fairy dust! I wonder if they got it off...never seen such tension! Whoop!

  • To do a show , with many different , cultured dances , takes talent . Not only , is Michael a Hell of a dancer . He's , one Hell of , a producer .

  • my grandmother knew how to flamenco. it is a passionate and beautiful dance.

  • I still have this VHS, used to play it over and over while doing freelance crap on my computer. Kept me going hour after hour.

  • OMG! IO have teh original VHS for this

  • @FunkyPeaceGirl i want it lol :)

  • Went to the american circus the other day and they done this sketch which was amazing and they were dancing along to different tunes and this song played and im sitting there next to my friend screaming RIVERDANCEEEEEEEE :) Love riverdance so much! Dont know whats more entertaining the music or the dancing

  • I love how she just has this intense look in her eyes when she dances. Shows how passionate she is about it. That's what true art is about.

  • saw her at Radio City ---extraordinary!!

  • SHE IS SO MANLY!!!!!

  • I grew up watching this video. It's nice to know the music and dance are still appreciated. Thank you.

  • My favorite one; I LOVE it. <3

  • I like the 1996 show from NYC better, after Flatley left. She actually got her own solo (for this song) and Jean partnered with Collin more. It's RIVERDANCE, not the Michael Flatley show.

  • @rubyredslip86 I kinda agree. Michael seems to like the spotlight - which is why he went onto to do Lord of the Dance right? But there's such a feeling of spirit and excitement in the original 1995 show. The others seem overplayed and seem to miss something. And I find they pair up well in this dance. Just like he does with Jean. Idk, just my opinion.

  • I never tire of this, she is wonderful and the music too...love it to death..shame about his hairdresser!!!

  • I never tire of this, she is wonderful and the music too...love it to death

  • aww i love the wink

  • for some reason, the music isn't clicking too much with me for flamenco (it just doesn't seem to translate too well) but i really enjoy the dance itself. especially the woman, she has that intensity, that *oomph*

  • i love this dance i love her and michael i dont have words

  • love it so mach

  • This is my favorite.

  • What you don't see is when the dance is finished he kisses her, and when they walk off he has his arm around her waist ;)

  • I love that little wink he gives her at 3.45 :)

  • Did anyone else catch where he winks at her 3:45? Or is that just his eye twitching?

  • @TheOneYouNeverKnew19 yeah i saw that too, but i think it was just twitching. but the first time i watched this i thought he was winking at her

  • i saw this on Broadway it blew my mind

  • thanks for this post I wore my tape so long ago, and while I liked the whole show, this one set, song, dance always moved me. Made me think of things to be and things that can be.

    Again thanks

  • Really, this is the best version with Maria being so untight? I doubt it.

  • Man she is BEAUTIFUL! I feel like dancing!

  • sadly i saw on a commercial that riverdance is saying goodbye....

  • e always seems to smile an be in love with the other dancer but she never is when u see these too dance,,,,hes not smiling she is,,,,,till right at the end oooo they both smile

when u see these to dance they alll smile an omg pure lust sex gods

  • omg this is just sex on legs

i used to watch this with my best friend an we used to predent to be the dancers i was always this girl

i used to see the ther dancer dance with michael they never seem to smile or enjoy it

when u see these to dance they alll smile an omg pure lust sex gods

  • la versión original!! the most beautiful!!! the duet is awesome!! dos dioses bailando!!

  • It was the best of all riverdances from then till now =)...no others can beat this period

  • @ChukchiCatori I"VE JUST SEEN THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AND I'M IN LOVE WITH THE WAY SHE DANCES!!! I BLOODY RECKON!!! THIS IS THE BESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!

  • when u see him an her dance togther its so sexy

  • she is great

  • This is great! My siblings and I would watch this show almost every week when we were little. We always called this part "The WIggly Girl" and fast forwarded it.

We lost our old version, but in it she had a bright red flower in her hair.

    Thx for posting :)

  • makes me so excited to see the east flow with the west. the best of both worlds !!

  • My dance instructor's name is Maria. She's Hispanic, and she could so rock this. She might even be as good as Pages.

  • This is HYPNOTIC!!! it is so beautiful, deep and sensual!

  • @peacenlove911 That's the same way I've always thought about it!

  • But OMG they are amazing together! Love this!!!

For a second there he looked like a creepy rapist! XD

  • awesome no words!!! just enjoy it

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!

  • ..*Uploading.

But yeah.. this is amazing. Definatly one of my favorite parts of the show- I had this on VCR tape thing but some idiot(dad) recorded the indy 500 over it.

  • Flatley for the win forever!

I had this on my VCR, but I lost the tape...

It was filmed the year I was born.

  • @blindseer95 Wow, if you were born in 1995...I officially feel ancient! Thanks!

  • Hahaha... your very welcome. Welcome to the world of the ancient!!

  • @blindseer95 I'm not even that ancient, that's pretty bad..only soon to be 25! Then again I don't find 60 year olds ancient anymore either...the joys of growing up...lol

  • Haha, I never found anyone 'ancient', only wise and experienced. You have a lot of learning to do, and so do I, because if you can live to 80 then we obviously are not finished learning. Heehee.

  • I always got sad towards this part because it was close to the end of the tape lol

i remember coming home from school and watching this every friday night with popcorn or something and thinking "this is so freaking cool!"

  • hahaha....he totally feels her up around the 4:40 mark!!!

  • There's just so much beauty and so much fun to it. And then the myths and the music just make it all explode. I wish I could learn it. I've never seen it live you're so lucky. :)

  • Hm, I wonder what would happen if someone were to get a dress like that and do that dance to that music on "You think you can dance" or "american idol"?

  • She is sooo inspiring! When I got this I remember watching her over and over again trying to copy her style. She's amazing! I know it's a little played out to say it but ...YOU GO GIRL!!!!

  • Beautiful!!!!!

  • My favorite of all the songs on Riverdance! Thanks so much for uploading this show!

  • I think, there are no words enough to descripe her talent..........she touchs me deeply...........

  • NO doubt this is Michael! brilliant!!!!

  • Yes it is Michael Flatley here!

  • I love that dance it is so passionate! She is really good at what she does and he can really move!

  • Shows how much you know.

This is Michael Flatley, it was the first Riverdance production, before Michael left and Colin replaced him.

  • it is not ... we've got the video and the guy is presented as colin dunne in the credits ... so either you're wrong or the filmcompany ...

  • Oh for gods sake.

Ask anyone, ANYONE, who is a fan of Riverdance, and they will tell you.

THIS is Michael Flatley. Colin Dunne has dark hair, and REPLACED Flatley.

    Jesus.

  • @Nightmareb4Chrimbo

you are correct.. that was Michael Flatley... Colin Dunne did do a duet with Maria Pages, however it wasn't until just before the last number in the show Heartland

  • @Nightmareb4Chrimbo Yep. Michael Flatley left Riverdance to create Lord of the Dance and later create Celtic Tiger.

  • just perfect

  • sooo beautiful.....Maria Pages is the master! the sensual moves of her hands & body gives you tingles...and yes I agree that was definately a *wink* he gave her in the beginning! Best of Riverdance for me!

  • is that a guy? ive always wondered that

  • shani I love you

  • God that must be hard on her hips and body... All that stamping, same with the irish dancers

  • That`s flamenco anyway very hard on the body

  • what do you call the clicky instrument that starts her off?

  • Castanets.

  • Smokin'! Awesome.

  • I love this. I have this video!

  • the best of the show!

  • the original is always the best. none of Flately's other productions have come close to this.

  • this was always my favorite dance.

    i absolutely love the music!

  • has anyone posted her other dance off the tour? that one was amazing too x

  • Was it called Andalucia?

  • yes that was the one :) ty x

  • No problem :) I saw the show live the other night, and they did this dance.

  • Riverdance, the Show" 1995, "Firedance"

  • Malaran, I could not agree with you more - the 1995 original is THE Riverdance to me as well. I dearly wish they'd release it on DVD, as our vhs copy is getting a little threadbare too. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Actuaaly, as a 15 year old, I find the music in the show great. otherwise Iwouldn't watch it again!

And yes, this dance is on dvd now, I just watched it yesterday in music class.

I believe the DVD is The Best Of Riverdance.

  • When I was younger I didn't really appreciate that this dance was probably quite hard. To my young eyes it looked like she was just stamping around. And I didn't like how her legs would be apart like that...it looked manly and ungraceful to me.

I like it better now. But really, compared to the quick-paced, litheness of the Irish dancing, this looks a little bit flat. Just my opinion!

  • I agree, Colly! I used to fast forward through this part, but now it's one of my favorite sections!

  • I'm not sure. Maybe I need to watch it more, but this really does seem dry to me. Of course, it's a completely different style of dance, but it's just not impressive. I had the enormous privilege of seeing this show live in Dublin, and the woman was fabulous! She still kept the style, but her footwork was much more impressive.

  • this was the dance i loved most. it was my absolute favourite. i remember when i was five, i would also watch this on my VHS, it was amazing.

  • search for Riverdance : Flamenco variation (5:40)

you're gonna hate me but in my opinion that lady beats Maria Pages, and also how that six guys are fighting for the woman is much more passionate

  • You are talking about the European version of the Riverdance show. I have that dvd also and I know what you're talking about. I'm not going to hate you :), but I still think the original version with Maria Pagès and Michael Flatley is the best.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I'm also disappointed that they never released the '95 show on dvd, they really should. I also have the tape and always enjoy putting it on (on the very old VHS :P)

One more thing, I completely agree with you, this show is THE absolute BEST one out of all the Riverdance shows.

  • No one can deny the fact that Michael Flatley is wonderful in this dance.

  • I watched this video *so* many times! I think this dance was second only to the Russian Dervish.

  • maaan i remember first watching this on tv (like pbs or something) when i was younger. i still get chills!! this is just beautiful!!

this was the only part of the show that i can forgive the closeup shots (usually i just want to see the whole body dancing. fred astaire had the right idea XD)

and is it just my eyesight acting up again or did he wink at her at 3:44 ?? XD

  • you to it is an awsome show i love it

no i think he did wink

  • He DID wink! Good observation!

  • i've watched this part a dozen times and I always catch it yes i think he did. Was the wink just for the performance? we will never know.

  • Thank you so very much!! I have been looking for this clip for nearly 10 years. It was on our original video, then never to be seen again. This is the best number in the whole show ! Blessings upon you!

  • i loved her wen i was little. i was even bought a red dress and tap shoes so i cud pretend to be her and although a lil short now it still fits me 13 years later xD hahaha

  • I saw this live and it still gives me chills. Not only are these two great dancers spot on w/technique but they dance from the INSIDE out and it projects beautifully through the screen! *sigh* Great show!

  • I'm so glad there are so many other former Riverdance junkies out there. : D

  • Now that is a nice body on a woman... she's built like a house... and i dont mean that she's fat but she's got all the right curves!!! =}

  • This is the best version of this dance. XD I actually did see this dance with four males as partners when I saw it live in Dublin...

  • I think this is my favorite from the whole Riverdance show. Maria Pages is great (such expressive hands!) and her chemistry with Michael Flatley is better than what he had with Jean Butler.

  • i remember watching this when it first came out. i was 5! my sisters and i danced around to all of the songs (on our VHS that still works amazingly :) it is the best perferomance of river dance!!

  • María, hija, eres de lo mejorcito que ha dado Andalucía...

(María, baby, you are the best in Andalousia) (said with andalousian accent)

un beso para todo el mundo

  • i was in the fifth grade when i first saw this (1997) and i have never been able to forget this lineup of riverdance, one of the most spectacular shows i think. wonderful, thankyou for posting this up, maria pages is so beautiful

  • Great..a beautiful fusion of style.

  • i wish i knew how to dance like that i would love to do that at like a talent show or something

  • maralan51

u're right, it's the best Riverdance version ever been made! they should so do a DVD of it!!

  • Did anyone notice that he blinks at her at 3:44?

  • yes indeed !!! nice moment of complicity !

  • Saw the show ! M A G I C !!!!

  • Simply great!

  • I don't like flamencoooooo T^T

  • I'm South American Indian and I'm adopted. I have been dancing for a little over 17 years and I have taken Irish Step, Flamenco and others. By branching out, i have a better appreciation for other cultures and more respect. Dancing is my PASSION and i love it. This is my favorite part of this entire show ! ! It totally kicks ass ! ! !

  • una incantevole chitarra introduce ben associati stili diversi di danza che regalano energetica vitale emozione.cosa dire...semplicemente meravigliosi

  • Every move Maria Pages makes in this dance is like a beautiful painting, and poetry in motion. She is just so amazing and conveys so much emotion!

  • BEST. FLAMENCO. EVER!! This is awesome!! It was one of my favorite parts of this play.

  • I have this version on my tired old casette also...i used to watch this show over and over as a child and i still love it so much!Cant be beat in my opinion!!!

  • I agree!! I used to watch this almost every day as a kid! This and countess cathleene were my favorites!!

  • I think one of the things I love about this is the fact that you have two people with a real passion for what they are doing. Look at the interplay between their eyes when they dance together. Also the looks of concentration on Maria's face and the passion she shows just brings me to tears. The music is also just awesome. To have that talent and share it with everyone is truly a gift!

  • to principal2b : yours words are my words - their complicity is a pure delight and their ardour is communicative. I just love this video.

  • i love the people that try to slate dancers on here...well for one id love to see you do it...and ive danced for 15 years n im sayin that this lady is shit hot!

  • i love the people that try to slate dancers on here...well for one id love to see you do it...and ive danced for 15 years n im sayin that this lady is shit hot!

  • talented lady..

  • What a fabulous celebration of diversity. An original, creative and inspiring fusion of Irish and Spanish culture. Stunning - it's been years since I last saw this.

  • fantastic!

  • This is SO amazing on all aspects!

  • she FELT this music and that is why I prefer this version to the others I can still recall being enthralled by this piece.

So much so that my daughter (who is now 17) and I used to watch the VHS and get up in our living room to tap all over the hard wood floors =] OLAY!

  • too much hand motion for me but i still love her

  • "Too much hand motion?"....lol

Dunno if you're familiar with Spanish dancing, but that 'hand motion' is half of the Spanish dance!!!

  • Maria Pages is the best!!!!!!!!!

  • brilliant!
