doric's quest is good to start at level 1, all you need is 6 clay, 2 iron and 4 coppers and it gives you 1,300 mining exp :)

Theres a good coal spot you can be safe on exactly east of the bank. Its a good one to use if your a skiller or low level, so you cant be hit.
