lol at ths rate we will have doctor octopus type appendages for firemen, rat brain driving cars and people would be having sex with robots - and it won't be taboo.
Wow, why are half the comments about how lame or retarded the arm looks, ever consider how fucking genius the arm and mechanisms themselves are? We're one day going to have flying cars, and kids won't go "Holy shit, flying cars!" They'll find something wrong with something even as amazing as that. Just another way our society is going, lack of appreciation for our rapidly changing technologies.
@stevensonbak Granted it is quite disrespectful giving comments about how lame things are. But critisizing everything and wanting everything to be perfect is why we are changing so rapidly, or maybe I should say thats why our technology evolves so fast. We are content with our cars running on fossil fuel, and no real progress is made there. the 18th century people believed they invented everything and were content. Those who weren't invented new things. Same thing with these arms.
@lakkakka too limited space. Either way if people wouldn't complain about the aesthetics of these arms. Science would probably make them more efficiënt but not so much apealing. While with the complaints they will work harder to make them more efficient and a lot less conspicuous.
electronic charge actually travels faster than human's nerve impulse, and the nodes of the bionic arms are directly connected to human's nodes, so, bionic arms are actually faster in perfect world (if the motors of the arm can move just as fast as human's muscles)
what a bunch of dumbasses... i cant believe some of you are not impress with these technological advances! is amazing! who cares how that looks right now... eventually its going to look amazing, this is just one step to the future!
True I would get it just look metal, maybe put some armor plating on it, the plastic hand to make it look life like doesn't look to great but whatever.
They could make it look different if they wanted, they just want to get it working right. After they've managed that, getting it to look more realistic will be a piece of cake.
So if she can control it with her brain...then wouldnt implanting it be nearly impossible? youde have to reconect every nerve one by one, being careful not to damage the cells.and it must be painful!
I don't see why the techology is not more advanced. Scientists are capable of working on the microscopic level. Why not a less bulky artificial limb??!?!
The main obstacle would be permanently attaching it. Biosynthetic skin and bone may be?? What you think?
Honestly, it's probably because of funding. Sometimes the government just doesn't give a rat's ass. And then they've just got to cope with what money they've got. Sure, with more money, THey'd probably be able to pull it off. And also-- They are working on a microscopic level. To be able to be controlled by the brain implies that the nerves are sending signals through that arm.
this is nothing new, i remember seeing some black american bloke on the news talking about his bionic arm when i was 12-14? years old.. im 21 this year.
still it is a pretty awsome and intresting subject though.
Great video.. In 10 years, robotic limbs will be common in the medical world. In 15, they will become a luxury item for the elite, and in 20, everyone will have access.
She never asked for this...

Forget the Space Program. The Govt. needs to pump trillions into bionics. We should be far more advanced than we are now!

What we need now is bionic arms that can process the brain information much faster, so the movements of the arm are as fast as human ones.

yeah, and stronger ones

Well I guess that is possible nowadays!
I think the bionic arm was discovered by a man named Dr Leigh Hochberg, form Massachusetts General Hospital.
Try contacting him/them!
I hope the best for you and your son.

dam nice if brains control the electric arm i wanna know how far it's gonna be over10 years :o like complete arms you can see what is real or fake.
