hey ben.. i have an a JCM 800 2203 =/ and im not happy with the whole distorcion that i can get with my DOD 308 and the preamp volume in 10... do you prefere the jcm 2000 instead the 800?
Good demo dude, i personally prefer to acheive a metal tone through mine by using crunch mode on the classic gain channel with the gain between 8-10 and then hitting the front end with an overdrive boost, mine being the mxr ZW-44, really gets more push in terms of gain when you turn the volume up as well and get those el-34s ROARING AT YA. The red channel always sounded too thin for my tastes.
Nope 1 Vintage 30 is 60 watts. A 2x12 cab with 2 Vintage 30's is a 120 Watt cab. Look at all the Mesa cabs for the rectifiers and 5150's, there 2XV30's and are 120 watt cabs for the 120 watt heads!

I don't use the distortion in the amp because all distortions in amps are the lowest grade and quality and its too crunchy. I want a metal tone, not a rock tone
what are you playing at 1:21? i have heard The Monkey Lord (a.k.a. Rob Chappers) play it before. did you borrow that from him or is that part of a song?
I just wanted to leave a comment saying this is an excellent review video. Most of these videos are worthless as the reviewer yaps through the entire thing and then plays a few riffs. Your video really shows the diversity of this amplifier and I can hear the nuances clearly. An excellent video. Thanks!
i have the same head and im having a hard time getting a good tone when im using distortion. i use an electro-harmonix metal muff. i was wondering what settings you had the head set to in this video for clean.
@ryanharrison1337 "i use an electro-harmonix metal muff." <---- theres your problem.
dont scoop your mids, dont use too much gain trust me your tone will be infinitely better i know its "metal" to have your gain on your amp up all the way, but do yourself a favor and dont do it
Any chance of some tips mate? Iv only just got my DSL 100 n im far from a tone king, when you played on the crunch channel it sounded way better than what it does for me i can only get a clean sound out of it but on the other hand i live in a block of flats so cant crank it, is that the reason??? And could you give me some settings for ACDC/Angus tones and for slightly heavier stuff? This would really help me a lot cuz your tones are awesome... CHEERS jase, BTW iv subbed :-))

You may call him Jimi. This is as it is, as it should be, as it shall remain. Now, off with your head...

@benwilshire Sorry buddy but I have to disagree with your final statement there, when you're playing the amp quietly you aren't cooking the valves as much, so while obviously you'll still wear out your valves while playing on 1, it'll not be nearly as bad as if you play on 10 all the time! Play on 10 then feel the heat on those bad boys ;)
Mine is still a love/hate relationship. Every time I plug in my 2204 after playing the JCM 2000, it just sounds so much fuller. There are days that I love it, though. Hey man, this is one of the best DSL reviews I've seen on the web. I love the tone, I was wondering.....what brand of tubes do you use in your amp? I'm going to be getting a DSL soon myself, so I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks!
The ones i have are just the stock ones from the factory not sure exactly what they are bit there awesome! They sound really good once the amp is broken in and really suit the tone.

I got JJ's in mine and I gotta say its more a fizzly tone compare to yours, mind you I am using a Behringer Bugera 4x12. I wanna get a 1960 in the near future. Joe satriani rocks btw!
I was lookin at a tone zone in the neck too, my dad has the hotrail in his 50s RI strat its awesome. I dont really use the middle pickup so was gonna leave that stock and i was lookin at a super distortion for the bridge but these Mo Joe's seem to be really good so i might look into those. Looking to get the bidy stripped too lke Tom Edwards ML1 with the floyd on it. THe mahogony looks awesome with the ebony and maple on the neck.
@benwilshire why not do it yourself? thats what i do itll save you some money. u just need a soldering iron and solder. the pickups should come with diagrams on how to wire it.
Let me guess , this guy is American .

@mean0machine0
Hello mate!
THe mahogony looks awesome with the ebony and maple on the neck.

did you keep the original pickups in your ml1?

@rickyjshiznit
Hi
Yeah its all stock
Gonna swap em out for some DiMarzio's though. Gotta get some pickups and then find someone who can strip the body and install em.

@benwilshire why not do it yourself? thats what i do itll save you some money. u just need a soldering iron and solder. the pickups should come with diagrams on how to wire it.
