Joplin arranged the piece and wrote the last couple of strains. The first two strains are Chauvin's. But Joplin repeats the first strain before launching into his. Both Joplin's and Chauvin's strains are beautiful. One of the finest ragtime pieces from that era. Chauvin and Joplin both died of syphilis. Chauvin in 1908 at the age of 25 and Joplin in 1917 at 48.
I knew the first part wasn't Joplin!! I listened to it.. and I figured that it didn't sound really like his style... but the rest did so i was confused! I really enjoyed your rendition! Thank you!
That's beautiful. I've just started on this one and my neighbors are probably ready to murder me. But if I sound anywhere near as good as you maybe they'll forgive.
It is just like GreenHat9 & the others say below. Knew you would play more ragtime sooner or later and this is really fine, thanks; you have a special way with these pieces.
I had never heard of, or listened to any pieces by Louis Chauvin until listening to this piece, and it's great to discover of another ragtime pianist. Even though the 3rd and 4th sections are only reputed to be Joplin's, if he didn't compose them himself, they're in his true style of composing, you can just hear his style right there in them.
Great job, sir. This is one of my favorites. Chauvin's hauntingly sad strains distinguish this piece from most other more bouncy ragtime pieces. You do it justice. I've enjoyed all your Joplin posts.
One of my all time favourite rags

One of my favorite pieces of Joplin! (like Solace) A lot of emotion in it and you don't play it too fast! Good work.
