3 out of 5 for Batman Begins is way to little. I'm sorry it's kinda unfair to put it on the same level as Batman Returns. You were off on that one and I'm not biased at all. It's first off a good movie before being a good Batman movie. Apart from '89 (and Dark Knight) I don't think there is another Batman movie that is a good piece of art; the rest are kinda forgettable to be fair...
You've got a stupid and slightly annoying tendency to make excuses for shitty movies, and to crybaby like an autistic jackass about the really excellent ones...
This is why I think James is the best movie review on the internet. He is honest, truthful, and he relies on his own opinon. Anyway you look at them, BB & TDK are extrmely overrated and more hyped. Thanks to those movies, people now talk shit about the classics like the 60's show & the Burton films. I still prefer Tim Burton's Batman movies. But I don't think less of the Nolan ones either. I like Heath Ledger as Joker, but I also love Jack Nicolson as Joker too!
actually James Alfred wasn't that accepting of the idea, remember he was okay with a simple cleaning up Gotham but when he found out Bruce was gonna become a crime fighter wearing a bat suit he was like: don't do it
There's going to be The Dark Knight Rises! And I'm going to watch it in July 2012 and I'm going to watch it in IMAX! I so love when they put movies in IMAX.
people who complain about arnold having to many puns, those bitches should go see total recall, last action hero, commando, or any sucessful arnold schwartzenegger movie
I really wish they had gotten Ra's Al Ghuls' name right. -_- Not to mention it seems Christian Bale is over acting in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. And the growl... don't get me started on that dumb growl.
I didn't like Batman Begins at all, it was too long with a convoluted plot and poorly edited action scenes.
The Dark Knight is a lot better but is still too long, has a convoluted plot and badly edited action scenes! Good movie, especially Heath Ledger as the joker but i don't think it's an incredible classic like most people do.
In my opinion Mark Hamil is by far the best joker. He's goofy but you can still sense that he's and delinquent who's not fucking around. The best example of this is the recent batman akrham asylum and arkham city. Too bad those will seem to be the last of his jokers though.
"Nice of you to say but you of all people should know theres plenty wrong with me"
Mark Hamill is the best Joker VOICE, he can never be replaced. But I will give John DiMaggio props for the "Under the Red Hood" movie, if Hamill picks a replacement, who better then the man who plays the voices of Marcus Fenix, Bender, and Jake the Dog?
Nicholson = Best Joker EVERRRRRRRR!!! Everyone knows that Jack Nicholson's the King of Hollywood, he's been an actor since the 50's and Batman and The Shining are his all time best "Dark" movies.
this is not fake. i am serious. the plot of batman retriupmphant was that the scare crow would be the main villan. also THE JOKER would be in it as a nightmare by the scarecrow. and of course while this is all happening the joker's DAUGHTER harley quinn would get revenge on batman.
I don't always agree with everything you say, but you hit the nail right on the head with this review! One thing, I was expecting Heath Ledger to be border line crap (figuring all the hoop la was just Hollywood praising a dead guy and the fact all his other movies blow) but I found his take on Joker truly creepy and by far the most chaotic and evil - probably the closest to the very original psycho from the 40's. Jack is one of my favorite actors, but Heath was my favorite Joker.
I think the Christopher Nolan series of Batman is the best by far. Its as if Chris said: "eff the old batman films. eff continuity. eff the perception of people of what batman should or shouldn't be. IM MAKING MY OWN!!" And its really brought the franchise back its respect that's been tarnished thanks to Batman and Robin, and bat nipples.
Superman would just have to use his heat-vision or just throw a car or some other large object at Batman and he'd be dead. You're comparing a Super Hero to an ordinary human who's only true power is having infinite wealth.
@MikeEsex Actually it was in a comic, but regardless I don't think superman would win simply because he would be afraid of hurting batman. If he went all out, I'm sure he could, but he just wouldn't.
@NexGenStriker Ah, the Batman vs. Superman argument raises its ugly head again! Common, it all depends on the situation. If they bump into each other on the street and get into an argument over Wonder Woman's ass, Superman will win. Gimme a break, he could fly around the world in the time it takes Batman to blink and hit him from behind, turning him into a fine, red mist. However, if Superman calls him up and says I'll see you on Tuesday, Batman will use kryptonite to win the fight.
I like batman begins but i do think James makes really valid points, there are alot of things about the movie that bugged me mostly because everyone loved the movie so much. But i love the dark knight its one of my favorite movies though and i cant wait for dark knight rises!
FUCK YOU! Christopher Nolans Batman movies are definately the best. Its dark, violent, puzzling and well acted. Also comparing Heath Ledger to Nicholson is like comparing Pizza to brussel sprouts. Ledger is so much better. I mean he doesnt fall in love like, Nicholson did, he was also much better acted and much more frightning. He really conveyed the intensity of a serial killer.
i loved what Ledger did dont get me wrong but it was not the real Joker imo, for starters knives wasnt jokers main and favorite weapon it was his laughing gas, jokercards or a gun cuz he was a gangster and joker always tried to kill people in a grotesque but a funny way like with balloons or stuffed animals not with simple bombs and i dont know since when does joker not love money? but enough of that imo Ledger was great but i agree with the nerd on this one

@xxaimpiratexx So what, I like Nicholson too. Heath Ledger was more serious and realistic Joker. Jack Nicholson was...well, the actual Joker. I prefer Batman to be more comic book type series, but the realistic type series seems too much. I'm not saying The Dark Knight is bad, I love The Dark Knight but I like Batman (1989) lil more.

You literally can't compare Ledger to Nicholson. They aren't even the same character. I mean, yeah, they're both "The Joker", but that's like saying Bane shoots Venom from Spider-Man into his veins, just because it's the same name, doesn't make it similar. Both the characters are completely different in backstory, appearance, motives, themes, abilities and just about anything else that MAKES a character.
Scarecrow is probably the only thing I really don't like about Batman Begins. Not the fact that he isn't in it enough, but the fact that the only purpose he serves is simply to add the fear gas into the plot. And exposing Gotham to the fear gas at the end was really Ra's al Ghul's plan, so he basically just used him. And then they didn't even give him a conclusion, he just rode away screaming. And yet people complain that Venom didn't have enough screen time in Spider-Man 3.
@100percentgamer I couldn't help but agree more. Not to mention, he wasn't even really Scarecrow until the end when he was riding the horse. The whole time he was only wearing the mask. He should have had a bigger confrontation with Batman rather then getting tased by Rachel (a completely made up character) like a whimp.
I just watched Batman Begins for the first time in years and i think James is wrong, while it DOES have flaws, it is still a fantastic movie. At least 4/5 stars and way better than any previous Batman movie, The Dark Knight is a 5/5.
Joker....too invincible? XD Joker has always been too invincible in the comics he cheats death all the time and nothing can kill him easily if anything that Joker was a little more true to the comics but still original
Yeah. I think this was nitpicking. I think all of the complaints were superficial, and were ignoring the cohesion of the story and the sense of realism that Nolan was trying to take. Also, you seemed to forget that the Nolan series was a separate one from Burton's. Maybe I'm a bit jaded from seeing Confused Matthew, but I like to hear more about the characters and story in a review, rather than which scenes and props you thought were cool.
@ralphyetmore Yeah he judges it based on the originals saying that because the original didn`t show the origin this one shouldn`t. Also why wouldn`t it be interesting the story of how a normal person becomes as skilled as a ninja gets special gadgets, turns his anger and fear into justice, About a world corrupt on every level he turns around step by step.
Batman Begins was alright he's right in that, and he's also right into sayig that all the Jokers are great for their different series but i chose Hamill's Joker, especially after seeing The Return of the Joker.
I think it the scene where Batman is coming toward Joker on the bat-pod, much like the way he did in the original with the bat plane. Also, the Joker falling off the prewitt building is a reference to when the Joker fell off the church, but in TDK, he survives, in the original, he dies
Also the action was cut so close in Batman Begins because the suit he wore was so hot, uncomfortable, and hard to move in that they had to shoot it that way. I kinda figured after watching TDK, but I also read somewhere they had so many takes when he fought they had to take breaks just to cool down. His suit in The Dark Knight is definitely way lighter, and that's why they pulled the camera back more.
I think Arnold had a lot of fun as Mr. Freeze. I laugh every time I see him because I've never seen him so expressive; he always smiling or about to smile. Mr. Freeze is my favorite villain after Joker and Scarecrow and I like Batman and Robin b/c Arnold is just SO retarded in it. I mean how can you be serious with a villain with a freeze gun? As a kid I knew it was stupid but it's still entertaining
I completely agree with James on Batman Begins,it completely SUCKS! Like,it sucks hard! It's not as bad as Batman and Robin or anything, but The Dark Knight is a million times better. The action sucks, the villains suck and the plot sucks!
I liked the Dark Knight, but I have to say Tim Burton's Batman was superior in every way. I agree with James, Dark Knight was kinda pretentious, the film itself is good, but they hyped it too much.
Wow, so ironic he had just watched the Dark Knight and so had i! i just watched it minutes ago. lol And he gave it 4 bat mobiles outa five, and it was my fourth time seeing it. (first time being in a drive in movie theatre). The Dark Knight is a mediocre movie in all fairness however, and i had the same complaints. TOO FUCKING LONG, TOO MUCH DIALOUGE, AND A SHIT ENDING.
I find it cool both NC and AVGN BOTH prefer 89 to Dark Knight. Let's face it; many people don't give 89 the respect it truly deserves anymore and it's awesome these two love it as much as I do. I disagree on Begins; DK is the one that's overrated not Begins.
when i was in middle school i openly admitted that i loved Batman as a character, and i got bullied for it, because i said i liked Batman & Robin...when Batman Begins came out, everyone was like oh shit this is awesome
The Dark Knight was the best Batman movie, Christian Bale was the best Batman, Aaron Eckhart was the best Harvey Dent, Gary Oldman was the best Gordon, Michael Caine was the best Alfred, and Heath Ledger was the best Joker. All in all, The Dark Knight movie series is the best Batman series. I bet The Dark Knight Rises will be the best. Review TDKR.
@ghostfacedude93 I like Heath Ledger's joker the best, but Hamill's is a very close second, and definitely the most....Joker-ish joker. To me, Ledger's take is the best overall, but Hamill can pull off every side of the character well, so he's the one I'd tell someone to see if they had never heard of the Joker, to set the tone of the character.
what is good about batman begins???? its fuckin terrible , every character choice and performance sucks.its long as hell and confusing... and much of the same is true for dk although is 100billion times better and thats not saying much.
fun fact: Schumacher would sit on a crane with a megaphone and yell before each take, 'Remember, everyone, this is a cartoon'. It was hard to act because that kind of set the tone for the film.
@Teenlego Woah, where did u get that fact? I wonder if Schumacher is tryin to make it literally a kiddy cartoon, like that TMNT movie where the Turtles sing through the movie.
I'm ashamed to admit I love Batman & Robin, but not as a Batman film, just the stupidity of it xD I'd love to elaborate so people know why I actually love an obviously terrible film, but I cannot explain it, but that's just me.
Calling a film "pretentious" is not exactly a very discriminated critique. Christopher Nolan makes good, serious, dramatic films, and he just happened to make some Batman films, so of course those are going to be serious, dramatic, and damn good.
I do agree about Scarecrow, I was extremely disappointed with how he was treated in the end of BB and in the beginning of DK, which is one of my only complaints about DK, that and that Nolan didn't dive in deep enough with Joker's philosophy.
You could've cut out the Hong Kong sub-plot completely and lost nothing....
Also, Rachel's death annoyed me more than it probably should have, because
A) I really like Maggie Gyllenhaal, and
B) It would've been nice to have another Chris Nolan film where the female lead actually survives till the end of the film: they're pretty few and far-between.
Still, the action sequences are great, and Heath Ledger's Joker is my favourite version.
I really liked Batman Begins despite the sucky action sequences, but I think the Dark Knight's overrated. And a lot of the things I didn't like about it were, weirdly, things that James had cited as reasons why he thought Batman Begins was overrated: Batman's voice (of course), pretentiousness (it's not TOO pretentious overall, but Harvey Dent's "you either die a hero or you live to see yourself become the villain"? Who talks like that???)
You know, I think Batman & Robin's Mister Freeze was a really tragic character. I mean, if the film had focused on the horrible, sad life of a man who could only communicate through ice-related puns, it could've been a masterpiece. I'm tearing up at the thought. T_T
@Talisguy well it was the Mister Freeze from the animated series who was a much better actor and my favorite mr freeze, I think your right if he was focused on more instead of making lame jokes it couldn't have been a good movie though I dont know most things sound good on paper but not in reality
@Talisguy but you didn't need the movie, there was an episide of batman the animated series that focused on mr freezes backstory. It was only a half an hour long and it was amazing
Why is everyone saying Nolan's Batmanmovies are overrated? They're not overrated, they're good, nothing more.

Whatcha talking about james? Ra's al ghul is an awesome villain.
gcastro44 3 weeks ago
Yeah. I think this was nitpicking. I think all of the complaints were superficial, and were ignoring the cohesion of the story and the sense of realism that Nolan was trying to take. Also, you seemed to forget that the Nolan series was a separate one from Burton's. Maybe I'm a bit jaded from seeing Confused Matthew, but I like to hear more about the characters and story in a review, rather than which scenes and props you thought were cool.
ralphyetmore 3 weeks ago
@ralphyetmore Yeah he judges it based on the originals saying that because the original didn`t show the origin this one shouldn`t. Also why wouldn`t it be interesting the story of how a normal person becomes as skilled as a ninja gets special gadgets, turns his anger and fear into justice, About a world corrupt on every level he turns around step by step.

@reviewreviewer1 Yeah. Kinda thought that too. I'm not getting this review. Oh well.

Batman Begins was alright he's right in that, and he's also right into sayig that all the Jokers are great for their different series but i chose Hamill's Joker, especially after seeing The Return of the Joker.

What are the two scenes from TDK?
MrHugawookie 3 weeks ago
@MrHugawookie
I think it the scene where Batman is coming toward Joker on the bat-pod, much like the way he did in the original with the bat plane. Also, the Joker falling off the prewitt building is a reference to when the Joker fell off the church, but in TDK, he survives, in the original, he dies
anakinfan8 3 weeks ago

ChocolateAsian9000 3 weeks ago 3
I completely agree with James on Batman Begins,it completely SUCKS! Like,it sucks hard! It's not as bad as Batman and Robin or anything, but The Dark Knight is a million times better. The action sucks, the villains suck and the plot sucks!
Did I mention it sucks?!

I liked the Dark Knight, but I have to say Tim Burton's Batman was superior in every way. I agree with James, Dark Knight was kinda pretentious, the film itself is good, but they hyped it too much.
akshizzy77 4 weeks ago
Wow, so ironic he had just watched the Dark Knight and so had i! i just watched it minutes ago. lol And he gave it 4 bat mobiles outa five, and it was my fourth time seeing it. (first time being in a drive in movie theatre). The Dark Knight is a mediocre movie in all fairness however, and i had the same complaints. TOO FUCKING LONG, TOO MUCH DIALOUGE, AND A SHIT ENDING.
kantezkape49 1 month ago
I find it cool both NC and AVGN BOTH prefer 89 to Dark Knight. Let's face it; many people don't give 89 the respect it truly deserves anymore and it's awesome these two love it as much as I do. I disagree on Begins; DK is the one that's overrated not Begins.

Review TDKR.

ghostfacedude93 1 month ago
@ghostfacedude93 Hell yeah. When I'm reading The Killing Joke, it's Hamill's voice I'm thinking of, not the others!
CoolerKing37 1 month ago
@ghostfacedude93 I like Heath Ledger's joker the best, but Hamill's is a very close second, and definitely the most....Joker-ish joker. To me, Ledger's take is the best overall, but Hamill can pull off every side of the character well, so he's the one I'd tell someone to see if they had never heard of the Joker, to set the tone of the character.

fun fact: Schumacher would sit on a crane with a megaphone and yell before each take, 'Remember, everyone, this is a cartoon'. It was hard to act because that kind of set the tone for the film.

I'm ashamed to admit I love Batman & Robin, but not as a Batman film, just the stupidity of it xD I'd love to elaborate so people know why I actually love an obviously terrible film, but I cannot explain it, but that's just me.
NirdBerd 1 month ago

Talisguy 1 month ago
I really liked Batman Begins despite the sucky action sequences, but I think the Dark Knight's overrated. And a lot of the things I didn't like about it were, weirdly, things that James had cited as reasons why he thought Batman Begins was overrated: Batman's voice (of course), pretentiousness (it's not TOO pretentious overall, but Harvey Dent's "you either die a hero or you live to see yourself become the villain"? Who talks like that???)
Talisguy 1 month ago
You know, I think Batman & Robin's Mister Freeze was a really tragic character. I mean, if the film had focused on the horrible, sad life of a man who could only communicate through ice-related puns, it could've been a masterpiece. I'm tearing up at the thought. T_T
Talisguy 1 month ago 28
@Talisguy well it was the Mister Freeze from the animated series who was a much better actor and my favorite mr freeze, I think your right if he was focused on more instead of making lame jokes it couldn't have been a good movie though I dont know most things sound good on paper but not in reality
