Great review .I have the (sigma f1.4) on a canon 600d but it take ages to auto focus mine takes almost 4 seconds,I put it on infinity and then it turns and then goes back and clicks a few times. Is it normal or is there something wrong with my lens?
Trust me on this.....Anyone weighing up which lens to get out of the Canon 1.4 50mm and the Sigma 1.4 50mm In this case between these two lens the Sigma outways the canon by a long shot as afr as back/front focus issues with sigma......I have a sigma 50mm and have no issues at all!. But If you want ultimate sharpness and creamy out of focus quality you going to have to save your pennys for L glass! trust me when I say this, the saying is true once you go L glass you will never go back!
@chasingframes Thanks for your info on this i love my sigma now. Ive tried a few l glass and like them but ive got to say a few of my tamrons are not far off at all cheers
I recently bought my very 1st dSLR a Nikon d5100. since im a mother of 5 boys i love taking pictures of them and my recipes for my mommy vlog channel.
I would love to have the N50mmf/1.4G but a friend offered me a Sigma 50mm1.4(rotating type lens) for half the price of a Nikon.Sir,would i go for it or would you rather suggest for me to have the Nikon 50mm1.8 instead, because it has the same price of the offered Sigma? 1 thing for sure,I would really want to have a very nice Bokeh though.ThankU
To make myself clear... I like creamy bokeh but I also and in the same time better like incredible sharpness (on eyes for example). So I would use this lens stopped down about F2 or F2.2 to avoid softness and be 100% sure that the AF won't miss, what you say, can it do the sharpness, that I mean?
I'm hesitating between the canon and the sigma, the sigma looks better although but I'm terribly afraid of a bad copy which will have front/back focus because the calibration is a long procedure in which I have to send back the body too again to some hundred kilometers. Many rumors say that the Sigma has this defect, if not all of them, a lot of copies though. What you say?
I have bought a Canon 550D recently, together with a Canon EF 85mm F1.8 USM. Either the body or the lens has a defect, because I noticed front focusing and sent them back together for calibration. I want to buy a 50mm f1.4 as I do mostly portraiture and 85mm isn't enough alone, because on a crop body it gives only the tele-look.
@mervie17 Yes it should work no problems you may want to try the canon 50mm f1.8 its a sharp lens and only 99pounds. Is yours a 1000d?. I only got the sigma for the build quality has its built like a tank and i give it lots of stick lol .
John, you should do a vid where you just read the dictionary with that accent! would be damn good and a refreshing change from all the canucks and yanks i listen to daily (i'm a canuck)
@VUDi1986 Hi well there both a little soft at f1.4 but the sigma has much better build qualty and feels great in your hand id say there both sharp. I went for the sigma has it feels like it will last forever the canon felt cheap but does the same job so its down to you please let us no cheers john.
@sasktank Well i ant used any other. But mine is in with my body for recal at sigma so ill be doing another video soon. I tried manual focus and it was loads better but ye its still soft at f1.4 i said that in the video. But to be honest when i used manual focus it was lots better anyway new video coming soon thanks for your comment
Nice review, I own the lens myself. At F1.4 this lens is 10 times better then the Canon F1.4, it is worth the little extra money, I simply love this lens.
@Otacon642 Well its very good has you can shoot at f1.4 so you can keep your iso low and blur the background but you will after use the tripod for zooming in and out like maybe the tamron 17-50mm but its only 2.8 so i use that more to be honest
@nicklars3n Yes mate its no good at 1.4 but from f2 onwards is sweet it doesnt realy miss focus for me its just realy soft and i mean soft so dont use f1,4 unless it was a must but try f2 onwards its awsom :)
@nupac15 yes of course you can but there is better options then this lens like the tamron 17to50 f2.8 vc lens. You have better zoom and vc aswell unless you realy need f1.4. But to be honest f1.4 is crap on this lens so hard to get focus f2 is pretty good when u get it right and you would gain a extra stop. But for walk around lens id say 17to50mm f2.8 it is sharp and a great lens
