@ScottsIrishCrow ---- It's good! I used to love watching it. For Disney putting out a movie based on Bradbury is insane. Creepy and suspenseful. Dated, but who cares? Classic, like Watcher In The Woods!
@flood1980 I watched the movie a few weeks ago, but i have never heard of Bradbury or watcher in the woods?
I do like this movie and would of liked it if my brother would of watched with me, but he didn't. Is watcher in the woods a kid movie or R cause i cant watch R?
@flood1980 I watched the movie a few weeks ago, but i have never heard of Bradbury or watcher in the woods?

I remember forced to read the book in 7th grade, and I fucking hated it. Reflecting on it though, the story is actually quite cool and "wicked" indeed.
well, i have to admit, this movie always strikes a chord in me whenever i see it... it really represents a large part of mans inner darkness... like the mr. hyde of dr. jekyll... still ... freakin good movie, and that ray bradbury wrote the book is cool too.
dude I remember this movie! Ive been looking for it for ever! I used to watch this as a kid and it gave me a really creepy vibe and now I know why, it was one of ray bradbury's books!
Holy shit! This movie had more of an impact on me than any other movie in my 33 years, it scared the living day lights out of me as a kid and I still think about it often. I wonder will it be so scary today?
Wow. I forgot this movie existed! I was traumatized as a child after seeing this movie. I'd like to watch it again to see if its still scary. All I remember is spiders under the bed covers, then on the door handle (!!!), some scary woman in black, and the blood dripping on that kids face.
I would love to see them make the book into a good movie and not this hack job. This is my favorite book ever and for them to over look little details is insulting.
i hated the book it did not creep the shit out of me i only picked it cuz we were doing a book project and i thought this book would have creepy clowns and stuff. way too much figurative language. and it made me sleepy
This looks like an aweosme movie! I loved the book, but I had no idea this existed until recently! Once again, it has been proven that a movie does not need to have super expensively exaggerated special effetcs in order to be great. The acting is amazing, if you ask me, and the story in itself more than makes up for the lack of computer-made effects.
My favorite movie!!!!! I love Jonathan Pryce and Ray Bradbury!!! There is nothing like a classic haunting story to remind us of the great things we have now!
this was a fantastic film, and an even better more fantastic book. i would love to remake well not remake but make another rendition of the film/book.

@MEGAIRONMETALHEAD Oh shut up and go watch the new justin bieber movie, or twlight 4. You clearly don't know a good movie even if if hit you on the head.
@MEGAIRONMETALHEAD yawn, what a dumbass, people come to watch this trailer to reminince about a movie that scared them as a child and somehow you get all preachy and start spouting off that they should be watching Hitchcock instead. how lame are you dude? be a little less douchie and see if your angry little life gets better
@laceyschism i got a reason to suggest hitchcock instead of this pile of shit, this movie isnt even a bit scary, and the reason why kids such as urself who havent grown up yet like this movie is because u dont no better
@MEGAIRONMETALHEAD hey dumb fuck, do you know the age people tend to first see this is like umm i dunno, like ten, eleven, when its scary for them, why the fuck would my younger 11 year old self want to watch fucking north by northwest. I get it, its a good movie, but as far as "movies that scared us as a child" North by Northwest is never going to fall into that category you dumb ass poser! take your shit elsewhere douch
@laceyschism ok where the fuck did poser some from u stupid bitch, and im not saying that its not gonna scare little kids im just saying its a shitty movie, ill admit the setting and premise is good but it doesnt go anywhere good and its over the top ridiculous, the acting is laughable and so are the characters, and as far as movies that would scare little kids and still frighten the adults and remain a good entertaining film would be a movie like pan's labyrinth, so suck on that u moronic fuck!
@MEGAIRONMETALHEAD ah, i see "poser" hits a nerve. thats something youve been called before huh? ah well, sorry. but i mean poser by the fact that you are coming to SOMEONE elses scary childhood movie and suggesting Hitchcock i mean what the fuck? we get it, you like films, but bashing older films that people found scary at the time is lame. and Del Toro's film is rated R you dumb fuck, what kind of 10/11 year old is going to watch pan's? see again your naming a good movie just to be a douche
@laceyschism no shit for brains, and wat the fuck is rong with suggesting hitchcock, and calling this film scary is fucking stupid, its not scary, its over the top ridiculous, and i no pan's labyrinth is rated r but that aint gonna stop kids from watching it, and wats rong with naming good movies u shit licking, manure smelling, dog raping, horse dick sucking, piece of shit u!
@MEGAIRONMETALHEAD , yikes, you ran out of anything interesting to say very quickly huh? ah well, thanks for coming out. why dont you take your poser ass somewhere else and try and feel superior there LOL. And as you said, ya i guess kids can watch rated R shit, but i dont know too many really young kids who do LOL, but why dont u swear some more and make yourself feel all big and strong on the interwebs :P
Did Disney make this movie? Looks very good and creepy. The thing he did with his hands and the children at 1:47 was awesome. Very attractive title too.
@Winduct Yes indeed, Disney did make this movie; considering what type of films they were makeing at that time, this was a HUGE departure...and one that was welcomed by my 15-year old self, because it IS very good..and very creepy!!
The Book by Ray Bradbury is probably one of the best fantasy fiction stories of all time I really love this Book it's my favourite, read the first page i get shivers down my spine just by reading it Bradbury is a master of suspense and can create such an atmosphere witha few sentances.
This is probably a good example of something that was too ahead of this time...especially when there WAS CGI used in it originally, but it wasn't perfected in the early '80s...and how incredibly dark it is, although maybe Disney's Double Dares You brand could do a remake, and have Jonathan Pryce as the father in it...maybe Michael Sheen as the sinister ringmaster...
This is a fantastic story. Unfortunately, the movie displays some really, really bad acting and writing. The best thing about the film is Jonathan Pryce, "Mr. Dark". He's superb in this part. I've love to see it remade by someone like Tim Burton.
HOLY GOOD GOD is this movie freaky. I saw it my freshman year in highschool and one of the girls was having a crying fit and had to leave the room. I found myself screaming at the villain because he scared me and pissed me off at the same time. And it's by Disney! D-I-S-N-E-Y! For those that think that the mouse only makes family friendly works, you are in for a rude awakening.
Disney had a handful of really dark films in the early-mid 80's. "Something Wicked This Way Comes"......."Return to Oz"......."Watcher in the Woods"........"The Black Cauldron".....
While one or two of them were far from perfect, they were a lot more creative and entertaining than movies like "High School Musical" in my opinion.
@ShootAndSpin Once again a fucking idiot confuses Disney with Disney Channel. instead of comparing this to a made for TV movie, why not compare it to a Disney film or a film made by a production company that Disney owns?
i just finished reading the book, and well it confused me.. and i did not know they had a movie on this book.. and mr dark is exactly how i imagined him, except mine had a bit of a long hair..
but i would want to watch this movie because before, the movies thay had based on books were actually like the book, like they didnt change anything
Just finished the book for a school book review, and though I didnt like it as much as Fahrenheit 451 or Martian Chronicles, it was still pretty good.
Well known actor Royal Dano, who did Lincolns voice is in this film. James Stacy has a comeback role after his tragic motorcycle accident where he lost an arm and leg. Too bad this film was not marketed better at the time.
hmm just looking at the trailer it doesnt really do anything for mw. Read the book and loved it. Somehow this doesnt feel likes its going to add up, but then what book adapted to a movie really does justice.
This movie is awesome. I'm in the film club at school...tonight we are having a halloween party and I'm going as Mr. Dark to get people to hear more about this movie.
I am a pro atmospheric horror fan although not all gore films are crap. Halloween is my absolute fave, I've yet to see this film. Another example would The Changling (1980) George C. Scott's best horror movie performance before Exorcist III
As a kid who grew up with this movie (born in 1981) this movie used to scare the shit out of me. This trailer does not do it justice, go rent it/buy it, I think you will be quite surprised. And Mr. Dark is hella creepy just how he is. This movie used to give me nightmares, and I am sure it's still rather scary to this day.
Same here... born in 1975 and this movie was WAY scarier than the trailer lets on. It was made back when horror and psychological thrillers were based on really good books that would scare the shit out of you in their own right.
It's not one of those zombie/vampire campy slapstick-ish flicks, it really plays on all those primordial psychological fears and trepidations that nearly everyone harbors on some level, young and old.
the music in the backround was the original score before Disney saw fit to change it .... Ray himself suggested the change so I'm not complaining but it still makes you wonder how the original music would have changed the mood of the story .... was it too light or was it too heavy? O_o ...
the book is brilliant - scary as shit and grungy. this movie looks sterile. mr. dark should look like voldemort covered with tattoos and the boys are older in the book. chattenbox is right - tim burton should make this.
You know that title didn't sounded right to me. It's sounds more like " Something Wicked is coming to town" to me. Why can people up load the parts of this old movie here?
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TIM BURTON DO THIS MOVIE!

hmm just looking at the trailer it doesnt really do anything for mw. Read the book and loved it. Somehow this doesnt feel likes its going to add up, but then what book adapted to a movie really does justice.

no. the book is always better than the movie. use your imagination.

I agree, the movie left alot out (Think of how neat the climax would've been if they had the whole 'shoot the witch' act!)

Ray has the butter for the bread ........the film reminds me of a childhood that I lost years ago.......a dark night and a bright morn......!

I am a pro atmospheric horror fan although not all gore films are crap. Halloween is my absolute fave, I've yet to see this film. Another example would The Changling (1980) George C. Scott's best horror movie performance before Exorcist III

"We are the hungry ones. Your torments call out to us like dogs in the night. We feed...and feed well."
These new horror movie directors need to see a movie like this. It might teach them about atmosphere vs. gore, sometimes the unseen is worse.

I too was born in 1981 and remember it scarying the shit out of me too!! this trailer isnt scary at all
smp2191 2 years ago
Same here... born in 1975 and this movie was WAY scarier than the trailer lets on. It was made back when horror and psychological thrillers were based on really good books that would scare the shit out of you in their own right.
It's not one of those zombie/vampire campy slapstick-ish flicks, it really plays on all those primordial psychological fears and trepidations that nearly everyone harbors on some level, young and old.
A truly underrated flick.

I was born in 1974 and was 9 and it scared the crap out of me, I can only imagine how you felt only being 2 years old.

PhantomSoul2006 2 years ago 2
It's actually the only horror movie Disney ever released so I've heard. If only they did more... =/
Katana991 2 years ago
Nope they also made "Watcher in the Woods" another great horror movie by Disney.
coldlynx 2 years ago 2
Wow, really? I've got to check this out. Were there other ones (besides haunted mansion)?

watcher in the woods i saw that movie in the 7th grade in 1997 when i was 13 in the lecture hall which had two tv sets and a vcr in the lecture hall!
only257 2 years ago
the music in the backround was the original score before Disney saw fit to change it .... Ray himself suggested the change so I'm not complaining but it still makes you wonder how the original music would have changed the mood of the story .... was it too light or was it too heavy? O_o ...
MoNzTeR969 2 years ago
the book is brilliant - scary as shit and grungy. this movie looks sterile. mr. dark should look like voldemort covered with tattoos and the boys are older in the book. chattenbox is right - tim burton should make this.
chitownnatural 2 years ago
It looks like a cool movie except that Will and Jimmy are not 8!
VGGSB 2 years ago
They should remake this movie. And i have a feeling if they did. Tim Burton would be directing it. and i wouldnt be suprised if johny depp was in it
chattenbox702 2 years ago
God that would be awesome.
Katana991 2 years ago
yeah...although I don't think it would actually end up being GOOD
