The guy interviewing Keith is annoying! He basically tells Keith a story from the book, talking over Keith who's trying to tell the story HIMSELF, and then saying, "right?"... Terrible interview skills. Why wouldn't he let the Man tell his own stories, "Tell us about how Satisfaction came to be?" would be better then giving Keith the answer and then just waiting for confirmation.
I always remember hearing a bbc radio report in the 70s talking about life in the repressive soviet union and how one night in Moscow, somewhere, a house orchestra had taken the risk of playing something different that the diners there wanted to hear and they wanted to hear, and the musicians played, 'satisfaction'
Many of Rolling Stones studio records simply have a very bad sound. I dont know why but its like they cant deal with the technical side of the music. The sound is most times too low or not existing.

@globe255 Really? Which songs or albums do you think have have bad sound quality? In my personal opinion Some Girls could do with a remix like Exile the 2010 version sounds much much better
@steveconn I agree.I meant the production was bad, really the recording technique on the early stuff wasn't great. The songs were and the playing was,but the balance of instruments and vocals and the clarity was bad compared to later recordings.
@steveconn Holy shit,I can't believe I'm being drawn into an argument about this.If you can't hear the DRAMATIC difference in the Stones PRE 68 and POST 68 then you can't hear. Why do you think the goal was shitty sounding recordings and THEN great sounding recordings????My point is their records started to be recorded BETTER after Andrew Loog Oldham left and they started using proper Producers.
@jimmmmybrady They just sound like typical records for that time. A bit thin in dimension compared to later eras, but that's like saying Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly records sound shitty compared to modern records. It's the sound available at the time, and that's what gives the records their charm. Jagger's voice sounds raw and dangerous, Keith and Brian's guitars cut through like knives, Charlie's drums are off to the races - perfect EQs and overpolish would castrate all that.
@jimmmmybrady Just as steveconn said, part of that is their manager was also their (totally inexperienced) producer. It wasn't until the Stones hooked up with Jimmy Miller that they had consistent, professional production.
haven't read every comment but does anyone else look at Keith's fingers on his left hand and think arthritus...his knuckle on his pointer finger looks broken...
"Life" was indeed a splendid book that told us everything and cleared up rumors (Anita was raped in a jail), misconceptions, outright lies, etc. Obviously, Doris was important in Keith's life. She must have gone through hell when Keith got into all that trouble back in 1967. I liked the Nellcote "Exile" stories the best in the book. Johnny Braces, the irate harbormaster, the freeloaders Anita would throw out, the music being so loud it could be heard down in the village, etc
Read his book LIFE !!! It´s wonderful - intelligent, funny, emotional and that much more ... Keith don´t need to ask for your respect because you´ll give to him anyway - just by yourself with love and pleasure.
at 9:00 they talk about the way he dressed, actually Brian was the one who set that style and when he did they thought he was imbarrasing them. funny how keith stole that. along with his Girlfriend

He's spot on about the 60's being the result of ww2 just like the roaring 20's were the result of www1. ww3 will be a different matter.

kingofpunk1977 5 months ago
@kingofpunk1977 It is bad if you need to turn the volume on to 4, 5 or 6 to get a normal sound from the CD.
Its like the orchestra is miles away from the singer.

@globe255 Which albums are you referring to? Which particular songs? The Stones sound good on my hi-fi
kingofpunk1977 5 months ago
@globe255 Yeah, their records didn't get really good until Beggars Banquet in 1968.

@jimmmmybrady It was raw, but that was the point. If you wanted sterile, pristine production you bought Beatles albums.
