No one does it like Ray. The depth of feeling he brings to his work is beyond measurement. I once thought no one would or could do this piece as well as Judy Garland. However, Judy's version is a whining from a dissatisfied brat compared to the lament from a man who has suffered deeply - yet remains hopeful he will one day find that better place. Sorry Judy.
the first time I heard Ray was when I heard him sing Georgia On My Mind. I was like "Wow. What is that?? It sounds to different"...
I truly fell in love with that "different", and learned that that difference from all of the other music I listen to is actually beauty. Go Ray Charles!
