  • What time of the year did you film this?

  • athens is decent. the only bad thing is too many niggers...and liberals too

  • It looks like a paradise to me! Thank you for the vid. Greetings from Athens, Greece

  • @GreekMetalhead glad you enjoyed the views, hope you can visit one day!

  • Athens baby yeah hell yeah my home town shouts out ot Cedar Shoals high school class of 2011 baby best high school in Athens and the most modern.

  • Nice video. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload. I have always liked Athens, all of Georgia actually. I did a brief 'special course' at Navy Supply Corps School (NSCS). The folks I met were all very genuine and very pleasant to talk with.

    JOB WELL DONE! HOOYAH!

    Regards,

    Master Chief

  • @MCPOWest yes we'll miss the navy school. This will be it's last year. thanks for watching

  • @dwljk nice vid. Questions : 1) Average rent fees ? 2) how hard its to get a job in the city ?

  • That's not where the R.E.M office is, it's on College Ave, not Clayton.

  • WELL I HAVE TO SAY ATHENS IS TOP 5 FOR THE DUMBEST FUCKING COLLEGE STUDENTS

  • What a lovely town and so green! Thank you for REM. I always wanted to see what t looks like.

  • Yall could have put the barber shop names too!!!!!! idiots

  • Thanks for the tour...makes me kinda homesick!

  • @DirOfTheObv love taking views of the city for people to enjoy!

  • Thinking about going to UGA for my college choice. Just wanted to ask, not sure if you would know though, it isn't all just football down there, right XD? I'm big into music and, while football is still ok, I would mainly be choosing the college for the music scene and degrees.

  • @deste23 This is the home of music baby

  • @MrLeviGoodgame you got that right!

  • @deste23 Athens is one of kind when it comes to Music and has a very diverse community. You will fall in luv with the football mentality and the Saturday tailgates. Uga is the coolest college ive visited and i have made some rounds. You might also want to consider looking at college of Charleston...Good luck

  • @deste23 no, it's not all football. reason I moved here was cause i saw the other side of the town away from the college. it has it's own feel with families, music, and lots of culture.

  • @deste23 There's a lot of culture in athens. Music is definitely a big thing, with a few venues that have a very unique selection in bands @_@, lots of post punk, stoner rock type shit, not really my type of thing, but sometimes they have some good well known bands. I like athens, it's a cute and interesting town, and UGA has a ton of hot girls, though unfortunately many of them are preppy.

  • Bear Hollow/Memorial Park is not on the East Side. It's in Five Points.

  • My hometown...I was born here

  • wheres bear hollow the free zoo/family/dogpark

  • it's on east side - maybe one day I'll video it

  • im sure that there is a better athens than this village hahahaha

  • I miss Athens. What a strange/funky/cool-ass little city.

  • What song is this?

  • you know I don't remember, it was an audio swap that was under you tube's selection. sorry I couldn't find it again.

  • No problem, thanks anyway.

  • Athenshas a huge problem with too many abandoned, unwanted, and stray dogs and an animal control facility that does not have the space to keep every animal until they are adopted or rescued. Many young sweet dogs are euthanized here - you wouldn't think this would happen in a university town.

  • i live in normal town on barber st...with the crooked stony driveway

  • how cool!

  • thx

  • barnett's newstand is closed....rather sad development methinks. it was around for it all...and before.

  • yes, was quite depressing when it closed

  • The ORIGINAL 40 Watt was in a room right above Barnette's and R.E.M.'s first office was in the Building beside it on the corner of College Ave. and Broad Street.

  • wut the fuck?!?

    ur garbage

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I moved to Austin from Athens in '02 and I miss it so much. It was great to see some of my old haunts again!!

  • no problem. it's good to film the area we are in so others who either miss it or want to visit can see it from a personal perspective. did you hear that the ga theater burned on Friday? smoke was everywhere.

  • anybody remember "herbie's"???

  • where was it at?

  • Yay Athens! I went to UGA and liked Athens so much I moved back and now live and work here.

  • cool - there's lots of us you tubers here. wonderful city isn't it?

  • I spent most of my grade school life there. We lived in several places in the 10 years we lived there. We lived fora while on Oglethorpe Ave, and off of Danielsville Rd.I have a hard time remembering a lot of places there. Do they still have the bike race downtown?

  • yep - twlight. it should be coming up soon, usually every april.

  • is the first part in the green acres area? thought that was were my friend live in the late 90s. those were some good times.

  • different subdivision - that's on east side.

  • Thanks for the video and the info. I haven't been to Athens in a while since I moved to Florida. Someone told me the Grill closed. Please tell me that isn't true!

  • oh lord no - grill's still open. just ate there the other day - got my feta cheese on lol!

  • Wonderful video!

  • thanks!

  • I love videos like this,it's the next best thing to being there. I was in high school in the 80's and the buzz around the whole country was Athens. Then the Seattle slugs came along and suddenly being depressed was in.Anyway, thanks for this, more people should do it

  • yes I agree more people should film around their town. I did more on my new channel.

  • I've never seen it before...and WoooW is a really beautiful town!!!!..and with a lot of vegetation!!! But...how is to live in the same town of the great r.e.m.??? The thought of knocking on Michael Stipe's door and say something like ''Trick or Treat?'' makes me crazy!! XD

  • lol I get the rem stuff all the time. I know where he lives now, thanks to many fans thru you tube.

  • WOOOOOOW!!!..ok now i'm sorely tempted to ask you for it!

..only the name of the street...in case I have to pass by thereXD!ahhhh..no..I resist! Anyway it's curious that in this small town are born some famous bands!!!Maybe it's place that inspires something artistic! :)

  • grady ave

  • -THANKS- SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! me = deeply moved ;) ...I'm going to visit him soon! XD

  • I'm moving there in March and looking forward to being a part of the great music scene I've heard about.

  • you'll love it, great small town feel, lots of culture

  • why does this place look so familiar!?!

oh yeah.... cause i LIVE here!!!

    Im georgia, are YOU!?!

    lol:)

  • yes, but I'm on a new channel now. artofbrowneyedgirl

this is my town too lol :)

  • yeah, it's a great town until the ctackheads break in and rob ya blind....and then let them go scott-free

  • Athens looks like a great fucking town! I look to move here when I leave FL and spend my halfback time to the north right in this city.

  • cool, yea it's a pretty interesting place. nice to meet ya

  • Seems so.

  • I studied in the UGA.

    I miss Athens.

    Thanks for posting this video!

  • glad I could bring back memories for ya!

  • im sorry but athens is in greece...!!!!!!

  • thanks for posting this vid, i am thinking of moving to athens to start a band. is it a good place for adults too, or just the younger crowd? also, is there any hostility towards "northerners"? i am from MD and moved to NC and i can tell you there definitly is. also, how come no one was out downtown? it looked kind of dead. do you have any pics or vids of houses in downtown? i want to buy a historic looking house close enough to walk downtown

  • I use to think when I was younger that it wasn't for adults, but then I saw how families had so much to do, and did participate, opening a whole new light onto the town for me. I think I filmed this on a Sunday, so it wasn't busy. Normaltown is the area you need to look for a house in, next to the downtown area and very historical. And no Hositility. One of the most friendly places I've ever lived. I love it! There's such a mix here with uga.

  • thanks for the info, I am in wilmington,NC...have you ever been here? If so, how would you compare it to Athens? Is it hard to find a full time good paying job in athens? sorry for the questions, but I really want to get out of wilmington to somewhere with a happenin music scene and a fun downtown, but still like a nice quiet small town feel

  • absolutely no prob - bring on the questions! I've heard of wilmington, but never been. But if music scene and small town feel is what you're looking for, then Athens is it. The great part here is there's lots of retail and restaurant jobs, as well as a large medical field here, so you could work in dr office as another option. look at onlineathensdotcom to see for jobs if your're interested. and feel free to ask anything else. oh also flagpoledotcom is newspaper for music scene

  • I've lived in Wilmington. It's pretty, but kinda dull. Athens is a TERRIBLE place to try to make money, but it's the absolutely best music scene ANYWHERE. Check out my Athens bands playlist on my channel.

  • you passed my house in this video

  • oh really. and where was that?

  • ...kick-ASS! soundtrack & handsome kid too, I neglected to mention! ;)

  • thanks

  • Thank you so much for this lovely suprise. I grew up & lived in Athens for over 30 yrs. Several times you were mere yards from my house (off Prince on Pope) and places of employment. (I worked at the Observer, the Grill, Gyro Wrap & the Ga. Theater & about 1200 other places). I don't know that I will ever return but... well please don't take this down anytime soon, ok? It is nice to be able to show people where I am from. It makes me a little homesick, even....

    Many thanks for the memories...

  • how cool! Maybe I'll make more of those areas just for you to see - you can pm me if you want to see something specific. I know where you're talking - over in normal town

  • Really enjoyed your video! We live in Macon, Ga, but we took our daughter up to Athens to sing a few months ago. We thought it was a very nice city and hope to come back soon when we have time to just explore :-)

  • it is a nice city. as long as I've lived here in ga, I've never been down to macon, I need to come visit sometime!

  • I go on You/Tube to get away from it all..and here I am watching a video of the place I have worked for the last 18 years..I don't live in Athens but I love the city.. rich

  • lol - I understand! I do the same.

  • This reminds me of when I lived in SC. I loved it there as well. I always have thought Georgia is beautiful. I love the egg on the sidewalk part. lol I know that humidity well. Hubby is from Florida and I lived in SC for a while. This makes me miss the south a little. What a nice looking town you have and the music really adds to this vid! I love the feel of it. Thank you for attachign this to mine. I love it!~ :)

  • aww thanks. I really liked yours. I love those kind of videos, travel ones or showing around town. gives us a view of the world.

  • I lived in Athens for years and I miss it! Like you, I didn't go downtown often but when I did it was great. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • seem to be alot of people on you tube have lived here - glad you watched it. hope it brought back lots of memories! good ones that is!

  • Grew up in Athens and graduated from Cedar Shoals HS... go Jags. It's nice to see the old home town. Visited earlier this Summer after being away for 10 years. Your video is a great reminder of my visit.

  • glad I gave you a stroll down memory lane. I'm not orginally from here, but I do love the town. Thanks for watching!

  • Great video! =D I just visited Athens, GA this summer because I'm a huge R.E.M. fan. I remember seeing a lot of those places while I was there. I miss Athens a lot, I bet it's a lovely place to live! =)

  • definitely interesting place to say the least! But I don't get downtown that much. But when I do go, it reminds me how I should go there more often. Maybe I can find some R.E.M. stuff and send it to you sometime! Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks, that'd be great! =)

  • thanks! you should do one too around your town!

  • I love seeing where people live, i find it so fascinating, thank you so much for making this video! xxx hugs xxx

  • thanks for making yours. love to see more!

  • YES, ME TOO! how about a trip around inside and outside your house? xxx hugs xxx

  • I'd have to clean mine first - but that's a great idea! Get to see how different the electronics are and the way things are set up. Wonderful idea Twish! I'll start on that one now!

  • I will make one too, but my son moved all his stuff out of here today as he's moving into his own house so i'll be wanting to re-decorate his 2 rooms before i make the video! xxx hugs xx

  • WOW great sight seeing video, thanks for taking us along with you. We dont get out much here in our life cause of TJ having the Leukemia so we really appreciate our cyber trips with others! Hugs!

  • Glad I could share! I love to see other people's towns and trips. I love watching CountryComesToTown (Jim) and his trips.
