Except there was no voice acting in SC2 as far as I know. I'm pretty sure the voices were added by fans as a patch, and released as part of the free to download version of the game which came to be known as The Ur-Quan Masters.

If you talk to the Melnorme enough and explore the Androsynth homeworld, you get a pretty good idea of what happened to the Androsynth.

I always got the feeling that the developers purposely left a LOT of loose ends in the plot that were supposed to be picked up on in a sequel. Unfortunately, all we got was Star Control 3 which didn't have any of the original developers on the team.

Well supposedly the Orz wiped out the Androsynth because their true nature is something akin to a Cthulu like critter and the Androsynth somehow exposed themselves to it and the Orz destroyed them and took over it's space as a representation of the extra dimensional being.

i've only ever played sc3. never even really seen this game other than screenshots.

people kept saying that sc2 had way better music -- which i figured was possible since the sc3 music was horrible.

but this music is pretty damn classic, wow. some of it anyway =p
