I bought that CD just for this song, right after my Dad died. Does anyone remember a version of this with an interview of all the ladies? Can't remember the venue but the Wilson sisters talk about having lost their Mom recently. That was the video that got me to search out the CD and now it seems to have disappeared from YouTube (imagine that...)

@tastyhorses it is a walkabout dulcimer, the giveaway clue is the fretting on the upe neck. If you look you will see the large gap between frets ,  typical of dulcimers due to their diatonic scale.checkout walkabout dulcimer

It's a mezzoflute. Popular around the turn of the century and used in vaudeville acts. The one Nancy is playing actually has an interesting history. She bought it at an action from the estate of John F. Kennedy. Kennedy once joked "in perilous times my country, and my flute, shall carry me" adding to the lore of this mezzoflute.

I agree with earlier comments - I think this is at best an average presentation of this great Vince Gill song. The singers are breathy and somewhat off key. Listen to the real thing: Vince Gill, Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs. The flute work is nice.

Sorry but from this musician's ear, they are very good! Ann still has the greatest voice and she looks more beautiful than ever! Great flute work & that dulcimer Nance is playing rocks! By the way, the people at HEART said that when they recorded this for the Cracker Barrel CD, Ann had to stand in the hallway because her voice so over-powers Nancy & Deana! Ann you so Rawk!
