I would sing this song with these ladies anytime and anywhere. Understand...they come from 2 diferent generas and yes..the studio wasn't set up for this. Mixer man could have done better if he had tried.
Can anyone tell me the instrument being played by the girl to the left. thought it was a mandolin but appears to have 6 strings. Very unique, tenor, sound. What is it? Thanks!
I bought that CD just for this song, right after my Dad died. Does anyone remember a version of this with an interview of all the ladies? Can't remember the venue but the Wilson sisters talk about having lost their Mom recently. That was the video that got me to search out the CD and now it seems to have disappeared from YouTube (imagine that...)
Wow...a song actually being sung on a TV show that talks about going to Heaven, the Father and the Son. What a rarity and a breath of fresh air. We all have that opportunity to enter his Heavenly abode. Just ask Christ to save you and he will.
@tastyhorses I'm no expert, but it *looks* as though NANCY Wilson is playing an electric lute guitar. (Do a GIS and correct me if I'm wrong.) ANN Wilson is playing a flute.
@SuperNewsJunky >>I'm no expert, but it *looks* as though NANCY Wilson is playing an electric lute guitar. << It looks like a banjo-guitar hybrid. It comes across much too strongly for this kind of song - my band would run me out of town if I dominated a sensitive song with that kind of playing (octave mandolin), but perhaps the sound man is used to rock style mixing and it isn't Nancy's fault at all.
@tastyhorses it is a walkabout dulcimer, the giveaway clue is the fretting on the upe neck. If you look you will see the large gap between frets , typical of dulcimers due to their diatonic scale.checkout walkabout dulcimer
It's a mezzoflute. Popular around the turn of the century and used in vaudeville acts. The one Nancy is playing actually has an interesting history. She bought it at an action from the estate of John F. Kennedy. Kennedy once joked "in perilous times my country, and my flute, shall carry me" adding to the lore of this mezzoflute.
Dear God. This is so good! AFW is a freakin' powerhouse, having to back up from the mic and still blows Deana out of the water! When I die I want this song as well as "Sand"(Also by Ann and Nancy) played at my funeral.
UUmmmmm...to all those that DISSED the singers in this version of this song, please, just listen to each individuals talent that they contribute. I LOVE THE FLUTE in this song, blends awesomely! The "Unplugged" version is great. And I feel they did a tremendous job on this song. Now, lets all go over and listen to Laurie Whites version of Theres Power in the blood...then lets go over to say Hi to Wink Carter and his AWESOME guitar.

Ouch! Yeah, this version just got a huge thumbs down. they sound like they just got beaten down with an ugly stick and forced to sing out the top of their lungs. sorry! show me the studio version
dont be sorry, but take the time to listen to the studio recording they did...this studio does not have good acoustic's just listen to other artist on this show
I agree with earlier comments - I think this is at best an average presentation of this great Vince Gill song. The singers are breathy and somewhat off key. Listen to the real thing: Vince Gill, Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs. The flute work is nice.
Thanks for posting. I missed this when it originally aired. Ann is the greatest rock voice of all time. and Nancy is the greatest guitarist. These ladies have enormous talent.
Sorry but from this musician's ear, they are very good! Ann still has the greatest voice and she looks more beautiful than ever! Great flute work & that dulcimer Nance is playing rocks! By the way, the people at HEART said that when they recorded this for the Cracker Barrel CD, Ann had to stand in the hallway because her voice so over-powers Nancy & Deana! Ann you so Rawk!
It's a nice version but the key is too low for Deana's voice and they are flat until about halfway through - sorry it's my musician's ear. Check out Vince Gill's original with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless - it is absolutely perfect and chilling.
Deana Carter is, sadly, one of the more underrated & underappreciated of artists. She has more talent in her little finger than some musicians have in their entire bodies.
Take inventory..Nancy playing a dulcimer and singing, Ann 4 feet from the mic and still heard strong then plays flute...Deena WEARING, hardly PLAYING the guitar, even then basic chords, and eating the mic to be heard. Yeah. She's a real talent.
This is such an amazing performance! The love this song stirs in one's heart and that can be seen within the eyes of Ann, Nancy and Deana is breathtaking. Ann, you still have the best voice I have ever heard.
Ann is incredible! Just look how far back she has to stand in order for her voice to keep in line. Annie, YOU have the most powerful and amazing voice that gets better with age. That is something very few (if any) musicians can do.
I would sing this song with these ladies anytime and anywhere. Understand...they come from 2 diferent generas and yes..the studio wasn't set up for this. Mixer man could have done better if he had tried.

@MultiBaldEagle...you are so correct. How can the RRHF be taken seriously because of this, and inducting the likes of Tom Waits, et al?
sochocki 11 months ago
Ann and Nancy Wilson are NOT in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Neither is Linda Ronstadt.
Has there ever been a bigger injustice?

Is that even a Flute?
If not, what is it?
I have questions.
I need answers.
