Never will be a "maestro" like Rui Costa. The class, elegance...time seemed to stop at his feet when he carried the team on his back. Safest place on the field? Costa's feet. Much respect, sir. I salute you.
hes underrated because he spent too much time on fiorentina... He refused to play on another club than fiorentina cause he wanted to play alongside Batistuta!
For me he is better than
figo or Zidane , and the time he went to milan he was already starting to decline in form but still a great player!!!
zidane only became more famous than him, because of being french, Rui Costa was more brilliant player in the last 20 years, his biggest problem was that he never was ambitious person, he wasted alot of time in fiorentina for respecting the supporters and the club, i think if he had played his best years in a stronger team than fiorentina he would have won fifa world player
Rui Costa, Totti, Laudrup, Rivaldo & Bergkamp are all better than Zidane. And you could say that so is Giggs and Figo, arguably at least. Love watching Rui Costa play. His vision, his passing his creativity. ..If he'd been a little bit more self centered he might have a bigger reputation, but I will always rate him amongst the best playmakers Zidane was a great but he was a way better playmaker. Zidane only has one career assist to Thierry Henry, France's record scorer and that was a set-piece!!
@Christoffski Couldn't agree more...but to play down Zidane is a tad unfair. Zidane always performed on the biggest of stages, and maybe that it is why he is so well renowned, and Zidane was pure elegance. Rui is in the same bracket...it's just that perhaps playing for Fiorentina for so long was detrimental to personal accolades. Nevertheless, the world of football is an empty place without such elegant players like Rui and Zizou. The closest is Xavi nowadays.
@bardhi09 I don't think so. They both overlapped, drifted wide and played 1 touch looking for the perfect opening. Both have a similar striking technique and dribbling style. Pirlo is like a disciplined and laser accurate quarterback who joins attacks in much later phases, controlling the tempo of the game around the half way line and feeding players like Rui/Aqua to create final passes and carry the ball into dangerous areas. Flop or not it's only lately he has started to play this deeper role.
@Christoffski If anything Montolivo is more like Rui Costa while Aquilani i dont know howthe hell he seems like Rui to you his movements is too sluggish in compare to Rui and he cant even dribble like Rui so yeah.
@bardhi09 Did you watch much Aquilani pre him singing for Liverpool?? Look, David N'gog is sluggish and isn't very skillful, but his style is still like Anelka's, even if say.... I dunno, Karim Benzema is a closer example. He's still a different player in his own right, but there are similarities. 'S like I think Messi plays more Savicevic than Maradona. He would Bicycle kick crosses for no reason and be playing on the half way starting attacks like Laudrup then beating 5 players. Nothing like
@Christoffski Just throwing it out there, but to me, Javier Pastore is similar to Rui...and Dejan Savicevic! Man, that's a name I have not heard in a long time! Genius player, just unique. He destroyed Barcelona in 1994. Stunning.
@zetros Hell no he isnt Pastore and Rui have no similarities at all. Also its really stupid to search for a new Rui Costa becuz i think there wont be anyone like him for a Long TIME.
@bardhi09 I think you're blinded by club allegiances, my friend. I agree, there will not be another Rui, but Javier is similar in build and in play-making abilities. He's young, but will be a fantastic player. He's already the heartbeat of PSG. As for Seedorf, the man is stunning. Both him and Xavi are great players, it would be wrong to compare the two, as their peak years were at different periods of time. Xavi is, at the moment, the best playmaker on the planet.
@zetros I think the best CAM IMO would be David Silva of City but that's only my Opinion.
About Pastore he sort of reminds me more of Kaka from what i've seen on Palermo.
P.S did you see Seedorf's goal against Cesena last week he boggles my mind and yet the General Audience really underrates him the gut who won the UCL 4 times with 3 different clubs people should be ashamed of themselves really.
@bardhi09 Fair comparison to make, between Kaka and Pastore. I understand where you're coming from.
No, I haven't seen the goal! But Seedorf is ace. I remember last season Milan v Tottenham Hotspur, and at Tottenham's ground, Seedorf was controlling the whole match. It was incredible. Great player, great man.

He was always high up the pitch, playing 1-2's dribbling into space delaying and waiting for a run for the through-ball. Now he plays deeper, quarterback spraying long balls and joining attacks later. Before he would carry the ball or be the first midfielder to the edge of the box playing 1-2's off Totti and feeding the likes of Montella. He was an out and out attacking playmaker, just lacked the guile and fitness of Rui. But definitely got into the same sorts of positions with similar ideas.
@zetros You're really forgetting Seedorf Dude he PWNS Xavi anyday.I mean he's 35 and sometimes plays like a Fucking 25 year old when he's fresh and that is just Amazing.
@Christoffski Well if he had gone to Milan earlier for example he would of made History there that's for sure but he chose to stay at Fiorentina. He was a loyal player.
Grazie Bati, grazie Rui.
i remember that i started to watch all fiorentina games because of rui costa, around 98, and i just loved fiorentina at that time, it was my second team, after benfica. rui costa and batistuta could have won as many fifa awards and balons as they wanted, but they didn't care about that stuff ... batistuta, by the way, was the best forward i have ever seen, just incredible. i hope fiore gets a team like in the 90's, you rock.
Sono Portohese e non ci sono parole per descrivere questa doppia.... Ci manca al calcio giocatori cosi... Spetacolo, classe e passione insieme. Grazzie al Maestro e a Battigol
Rui Costa & Batigol, one of the best duos i've seen in football, thanks to both of them fiorentina defeated many great teams, both i/we cannot forget, di livio chiesa toldo repka any many other players!
He played for Fiorentina during 7 years, since 94/95 to 00/01, 215 games played and 38 goals. During that he won more than one time the best number 10 in Italy beating for example Zidane. With 29 years old he moved for Milan for 35M/€. Lats year he returned to the place who lunched him for the World, Benfica. SLB forever! Rui Costa o verdadeiro e único MÁGICO!

@Christoffski Aquilani is a Poor Man's Pirlo nothing else his style is nowhere even near Rui Costa.

@bardhi09 Maybe in the last year, but before he played more like Rui. Just nowhere near as well or consistently.
