Much props for covering this Jones Girl classic, but I think I prefer the laid back bass line of the original. I know R&B/funk/soul influenced European genres drift more towards the club scene, but I wish someone would resurrect the quiet storm.
this song has helped drive up and down i-95 more times than i can count!! it is awesome here but somehow the cd version tears it up!!! i'm in love with these folks forever
Soullovereal/ etc - if the singers were not up to the job, Bluey would not have them on the stage..... He don't mess about.. The very thing i like about incognito is the fresh performance - I have seen Kelli Sae live and she tares the place up...To sing live i think you are forgetting how easy it is not - I think its great to see a different line up it keeps things fresh - The really big names do play at the gigs and there will always be a mention of this
When I first heard this group, I was 50 years old. I thought I was thrown back to the 70s man! Then I realized that this was a new type of genre; I call it: Funkiscobop!
They're not really a new group, they were around when this song first dropped back in 1981 (they were founded the same year). They're a British acid jazz group. The acid jazz genre has been around since 1980. It's just whenever acid jazz bands are played on US radio, they tend to get lost in the scuffle of R&B and soul (Jamiroquai and The Brand New Heavies are acid-jazz).
This is the hottest group alive, many years in the industry. Band members and singers have changed over the years but they still deliver smoking hot melodious music. Go Incognito love ya!
This version sounds lousy. Those singes are not even Maysa Leak and Jocelyn Brown. That's one usual problem with Incognito; the studio releases are one thing, but in their tours, the singers could be anyone... These singers are nothing like Maysa and her full range and high notes, and Jocelyn with her husky and soulful rasp.

I know this is last minute BUT they will be in the Texas (U.S.) 2morrow (Monday - 05/31/10) for Memorial Day at Lone Star Park, Grand Prairie, TX, from 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Grand Prairie is about 18-25 minutes from Dallas, TX, depending on where you're coming from and even closer from Arlington, TX, about 5-10 minutes. Arlington and Grand Prairie are sister cities...right next to each other. HAVE FUN!

I 1st started jamming to Incognito's beat when I was a young Air Force troop in Sumter South Carolina. One of my mates maybe in GB right now told me about some sounds out of my one of my former homes I use to live in East Anglia the grps were but of course Bluey & Incognito and Jamariquai
wonderful music, this is my fav song, taken from "nothing like the future", I listened all the cd when I was in Paris, it's wonderful to do a journey with their music, thanks INCOGNITO!!!!
it was interesting to see this song performed live, its a very high energy song on the recording. i think they did a great job live as well, a little different but i love Incognito.
"Dear arabs, you see Iran is powerful like a lion (unlike us)..Now, I am strong enough to make it angry by saying Arabian Gulf instead of Persian Gulf...ha ha ha..I can even say it your islands are mine..."...and the wealthy arab person smiles at tv and goes back to bed with his wives! Some miles away in other arab countries, poor arab kid sleeps hungry in street and doesn't know the new name for Persian Gulf is a good thing to feed him or not..
a great band - I can't go with this cover though -- the whole nocturnal quiet mysterious moody groove of the original is lost, the sinuous reedy synth intro, the hushed feeling of desert night - think of the Nutcracker ballet, the Coffee Dance with its luxuriant drifting melody - this is a mood piece. Props to the big horn band, but they stampeded right over it.

OMG!!! I'm a singer - but forever love a TIGHT horn section. (Shit they're hot!) This is lovely. Mmm-mm stuff! Go Kelli. Who cares what buttbzerker thinks, we love your presence. Go, girl. Nice yodels. Hit it...yes, yo' do. Nice. And of course the horns sew it up. Love it. With the bass solo stringing yo' all on....oh god, as usual, I'm in love with Incognito. Love the live energy. And musos that hit it.
Incognito is great and powerful as always! I've bought several of their albums/CD's. But Kelli Sae is fantastic also. But she is still underplayed by radio stations and overlooked by the television and print media. I loved both of her solo albums/CD'S. I would love to see her perform live here in New York City!
Stealth move ha ha:) Bluey is noted as one of U.K's black music's originators. Considering that the orginal line-up for Incognito was developed more than 26 years ago! Do you think that this so called rumour of evidence would have grounds in a court of law...
However in November 1996 Bluey was quoted in an interview in B&S magazine: "The thing is I'm better organised now whereas, back then we weren't. A lot of British black artists just didn't have the know-how, the managers, the lawyers...
I mean, they'd sign a contract for a meal in a Wimpy Bar." (oh dear)
Possibly due to a lack of organisation around that time these allegations might in fact be true. However there might be no financial evidence to support these claims..
It's just so far back.
As far as I can remember the artists/musicians who worked for Bluey/Incognito were ever revolving, even up until this day...
Brazilianuno - about a whole album - I doubt any of the accused ever put a CD out with another artists name on - Tony Remy - and didn't tell that artist that they put it out, cut the deal with the label, took all the advance and royalties etc. The CD is out dude, Bluey put it there and didn't tell Tony Remy. Can't support Pimps man. Brazilianuno - respect to your work man. Hell of a list!
kool. I'll definately ask him. I know Tony. In fact i'm scheduled to hit Bluey up when we get to london. CHAKA and George Duke told me he was rockin with his collective. I guess if what u say is true it would be such a shame. Well thanks for the heads up. DH
Rumour has it that Bluey has been ripping the band off for years and doesn't pay the musicians. He also just released a duo album with Tony Remy and didn't tell Tony Remy that the album was out. Seems like a real jerk and thief, exploiter. Apparently, several musicians are getting together to take Bluey to court and clean him out. What goes around....
Let me see, this rumor is your post about the song? Since i've been recording, SANTANA, Al Jerreau, Teddy Riley, SADE etc. have all been accused of the same thing. WOW what a scoop. I know many more and by the way i work with these folks. Now can we get back to the song?
I agree. If the artists weren't being paid, I'm sure they wouldn't have made so many CDs with more in the works. Rumors will be rumors and we'll see the truth in time. Besides that, I <3 Incognito and can't wait to see them live.
I have to agree that this song should of been played at it's original tempo. Anyone who has heard the original version knows it was more mellow and spititual. Some songs style or tempo should never change. In this case it is better to remain true to the recording. Incognito is a great enough to stamp their own personality without making this song a hyper version to the Jones Girls song. Dexter Wansel, Gamble&Huff knew what they were doing when they wrote and produced this song.
i played with dexter. he always wanted to do things live much different than studio versions. spiritual songs don't lose thier texture due to tempo changes. scriptures don't lose message due to the rythm of the pastor's speech. every pro i know and work with prefer doing the work diffently do keep life in the piece. kenny gamble didn't write the song with the jones girls in mind. it's about the message not the messenger. again i applaude incognito for bringing the tune back to life.
Love it, but anyone have the original version of NOE by the Jones Girls? I've never seen these sistahs perform and with one in the grave I never will.
I actually played keys for Jones Girls for four shows in London UK in '92 + '93. They were great, consumate professionals and lovely girls. Very sad news.
Her name is Kellie Sae. Last I heard she was doing her solo thing and performing with a rock band too. Isn't she beautiful?

I have the original on CD. It's definitely not as up-tempo as Incognito's version. It's more mellow and slow.

I actually played keys for Jones Girls for four shows in London UK in '92 + '93. They were great, consumate professionals and lovely girls. Very sad news.
