Man, I love Soul Calibur 1. I played Soul Edge to death on PS1 and when I got to play this game I couldn't believe how much better it was. They is still my favorite of the series, all it was missing was Soul Edges "Edge Master Mode" and the alternate endings. Wish they would port this to PS3/PSN so I could play it again.

I remember this well, used to see it all the time back in 2000 and more, you could even create what characters appeared in the opening, they all had their own animations and all.

This is why the Dreamcast ver (1999) will always be far superior over the XBL port (2008), because of this and the Mission Battle mode, one of the greatest modes in the game, without it the game seems empty.

Plus you can get the Dreamcast to output this in HD, if you use the VGA box, it unlocks the Dreamcast's HD mode.

The first soul calibur to me was just perfect. Second one was cool too but after that seems like namco just tried way too hard to make the other soul caliburs dope when really they coulda kept it simple and dope as fuck like the first two. Personally i feel like the other ones are just way too much. I mean come on, starwars.... really?

The gameplay isn't any different, the art style of the game isn't any different than the second, there's a better choice of modes, they put more effort into the story. The only criticism I can give it is that some of the new designs and voices they gave the characters weren't as good as the second game...except Siegfried, he was awesome, but guys like Cervantes, Nightmare, Astaroth, and Raphael really got fucked over.

My favourite characters were and still are Voldo, Sophitia, Taki, Mitsurugi, Hwang Ivy, Xianghua, Seung Mina and Li Long.

I was really annoyed when Namco removed both Hwang and Li Long from the series and replaced them with Maxi and Yunsung. I've got nothing against Maxi or Yunsung, it's just that I really liked Hwang and Li Long, and now Namco are doing the same thing again by removing Taki, Xianghua and Sophitia and replacing them with Natsu, Leihua and Pyrrah. All I ask is why Namco?

I would say that the Soul Calibur version of the Dreamcast was better than Soul Calibur 2 for the PS2. I think that the DC version was more "fluid" than the PS2 which was more...slow.

My Dreamcast is still fine thought in hibernation mode. Soul Calibur for Dreamcast has really launched that franchise than Soul Edge (I prefer arcade version but that is me) did. It was one of few adaption that edge the arcade version and taught a lesson to SEGA own Virtua Fighter 3(rushed and done by a third party) in term of presentation and package.

Back then, the Dreamcast, and specially this game, really stood out from the rest. It was so amazing, such a leap forward in terms of graphics and gameplay that most people wowed at it. And it was so fluid and well made, that no other SC has been able to reproduce its fluidity.
